Just took delivery of an MT342 HC tractor. First tractor for me and I am pretty impressed with this machine. This was a very well done video, thank you for taking the time to make it and share with the rest of us! My experience has been that if you take good care of your machines they will take good care of you. Only have 10 hours on mine but 50 will be here before to long! Take care and keep up the great channel! Regards, Kevin

Get you a bucket full of cat litter for the garage. When you spill oil, throw some cat litter on it and then step on it and crush it in the oil. Makes oil clean up a lot easier.

Thanks so much for this! Maintenance info for LS tractors is hard to find. This really helped me out when I did my 50 hour stuff today. That factory hydraulic filter was just a bear to remove on mine though. I guess the factory uses gorillas and puts them on dry. I couldn't budge it with a regular filter wrench and had to borrow a friend's chain wrench. I still about gave myself a hernia, but it broke free without breaking anything else. :)

Great video Dave. I'm now up 47 engine hours on my J.Deere . I think you did good changing out your hydraulic oil as well. My Deere manual says to change both at 50 hours as well as the 3 filters. So before long I'll be doing the same. I was talking to a friend a few days ago and he was telling me he got his first 50 service free. I'm thinking " man why didn't i thinkof that " LOL. That'd be a pretty big savings. But like you I'm gonna tackle this myself. I thought that was a great idea saving your receipts and putting them in your owner's manual. Wonderful way to keep history and records. Thanks Dave this was very helpful.

I know this is an old video, but my dealer told me there was a way to use a vacuum when pulling the filter, so you don't have to change the fluid. Somehow the vacuum is supposed to keep fluid from draining out when you remove the filter. He explained it, but when I got home I couldn't figure out what he was talking about.
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bill, I believe they put a hose to the fill hole to help reduce the amount of fluid loss, I didn’t do it because I just changed it with the filter but I’m sure it would help

metal shavings on the hyd drain plug magnet is not normal. Something was either out of spec or has a clearance issue. I've been turning wrenches for decades and when I see that symptom of a problem it only gets worse and never fixes itself or gets better.Metal shavings not captured by the magnet are migrating through the system since the hydraulic system filter and the hydra static drive filters are both return fluid filters and not high pressure side filters. That can lead to: scored cylinder bores,blown cylinder packings,blown wipers,failure of hydraulic control valves,failure of hydra static drive,major bearing failures. Inform the dealer and ask him to give his opinion. It's important to have a dealer record of this quality issue for future claims.

I know this is an older video and my LS tractor is before emissions but I changed all filters even fuel filter. My fuel filter was cross threaded from the factory, which made it harder to remove. After the first time I didn't have any problems but they could have at least put it in a better location. Their filters I use just not crazy about the prices unless they are plated chrome or gold!

Any videos of how to change the fuel filter? Cant seem to find anything on KZbin at all
@BobLubrican
@BobLubrican 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobby290 The fuel filter is on the right side at the rear of the engine. It has a wire coming out of the bottom. Unplug the wire and then remove the filter like you would any other. The filter is a two piece construction and the bottom unscrews. That's what the wire was plugged into. Screw that onto the new filter and then fill it with diesel fuel. Screw it back on and then depress the button on top of where the filter screws in. That primes the rest of the filter and gets rid of air in the system. Plug the wire back into the bottom. The tractor should start just like normal. This filter, when you get the new one is hollow and you can see through it. It's also crazy expensive. The one I bought cost me $60.00. I had to get it from a dealer. Just so you know, the LS Xr3135 appears to be a clone of the Case IH Farmall C30. The parts may be interchangeable.
@bobby290
@bobby290 3 жыл бұрын
Two questions: 1- is there a shut off valve required to be turned off when changing out the filter? Don’t want diesel all over the place; and 2- do you need to bleed the line of air once the filter goes back on? Or can you just prime it with key on and manually pump?
@BobLubrican
@BobLubrican 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobby290 No shut off valve. The filter will be full of fuel when you take it off, so you'll need to dump that somewhere. I poured mine into a 5 gallon bucket of sawdust I use to start fires in my stove in the winter. When you put the new filter on, get it as full of fuel as you can. Then there is a round, raised button on top of what the filter screws onto. It doesn't look like a pump, but it is. You have to push hard, but it will depress. That's what purges the air from the system. I pushed the one on mine three or four times and the tractor started right up.

In my LS manual under the first 50 hour check it says replace the oil filter the hydraulic filter and the fuel pre-filter That's it. So I guess I will not be changing the hydrostatic filter or the regular fuel filter at this 50-hour check.

Hey Dave I’ve been meaning to ask you. Now that you’ve had the LS for a little bit do you recommend spending the extra money on the backhoe? Do you find yourself using it enough to warrant the big price tag or does it just sit in the garage? Might make a good video. Thanks in advance for your perspective
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm 5 жыл бұрын
Hometown Acres that is a good question! To be honest I think i have used it more than I thought I would! I was nervous at first with the same questions but I had great advice first being, it’s going to be a fair amount cheaper buying it with the tractor then later on and it backhoes will never get cheaper. Second being that with it I find myself using it for a lot of different things around the farm! Small trenches,stump removal, log lifting and a bunch of other random things! I think if your budget can allow it and you feel you will get a fair amount of use with it I’d say go for it! Hope that helps some, all in all I’m glad I had gotten mine! Take care my friend!
