Reason No.4 : Ergonomics. Average rider is 175-180cm. I am over 2 meters tall in my gear. On almost any unmodified bike i have squashed legs and also get to roleplay as a sailship. So custom tall seat and drag bars are almost necessity.
@Jon-nz3dm17 күн бұрын
Are you counting the helmet? That's just odd, mate. I'm approximately 196cm NAKED and do understand the squashed legs and sail feeling. Windscreens are essentially pointless. They're all either way too low or unbearably loud if tall enough.
@jirihorsky960017 күн бұрын
@@Jon-nz3dm Hehe, no. Without helmet, with boots. I also fight with windscreens being too loud. That's why i like to lead forward a bit more to counterbalance the windblast and give myself a lower profile, hence lowered handlebars.

On first glance it looks quite cool, but narrower bars and wider wheels are going to ruin the handling, and the joker artwork is a bit... questionable. I think this bike looks pretty cool in stock form, so this seems like a lot of effort to personalise the bike and (as others have commented) a bike like this will actually be hard to sell let alone recoup the $$$ you put in. But none of this matters if you are the owner and this is your dream bike. It's uniquely yours, so enjoy!

Except the tires that bike is 🔥🔥🔥. Especially the clip-ons. Helped a friend to do that mod on his naked bike. That only improved the stability and vibration on his bike because of the weight increase in front of the bike.
@joek81981Ай бұрын
I believe there are some mods we do that makes a bike cooler, and there are times when we're simply spending the money that the factory sought to save. I see them as two different things. Like when the manufacturer cheaps out with a one-piece, all in one axial master cylinder - that's just them being cheap, go ahead and mod that. If its an objective improvement, I can justify it. I'm righting a wrong done to the bike.

I agree with the three reasons for something being worth changing, but I'd add a fourth, one based on compromise for example seat height, style, bar height those things are chosen based on the average size of a customer, because at the end of the day the company wants to sell they end up making choices to make the bike one size fits all, at least, within it's given category, so changing stuff like that is fine to make it fit better to you. Besides this some changes pertain to riding style, the tire size and gear ratio for example are also in part chosen to fit an average expected style, if you deviate from that then changing those things is worthwhile, these things also have to do with emissions, slicker rubber and a lower gear ratio means going at a given speed with less rolling resistance and at a lower rpm, less emmissions, this however does not mean those choices are optimal for the riding experience, it means they are optimal for the compromise of being legal, sellable and good enough. All of which are definitely calculated, but calculated for the companies or the laws interests, not necessarily your interests and as such there are many things that could and maybe should be adjusted or changed on many bikes to fit any specific case. The broadest reason to not touch anything is resale value though, as the more you adjust it to your specific case, the more you move away from the marketability of the originals choices.

These bikes upset the sensations and the feeling that the manufacturer intended for this bike. Exaggerated customizations of this type are an end in themselves, they are difficult bikes to sell to the average consumer and have a price that is not justified in the eyes of others compared to those who have spent time and money to modify them. Better if those who modify them in this way do not pretend to be able to sell them at the price they want.

I don't agree with your faith that every aspect of a bike design is meticulously researched and determined. Yamaha has made a bunch of purely shitty decisions making bikes. I had an FZ1 that didn't have a relay for the ignition switch. They ran the entire +12v from the battery through a narrow wire to the ignition switch and back. I wondered why my headlight was so dim, it was because it was getting 9v after the huge drop from running the entire current of the bike through that long, narrow wire. That was simply lazy and Yamaha not giving a shit about anything. Also, nothing excuses Yamaha's frequently awful decisions about spring rate and damping of so many bikes, like the FZ07. It's not even that they chose an ideal rider weight poorly, they just mismatched the front and rear so badly the bike wasn't good for anyone. It costs literally nothing to use one spring rate over another, they just didn't care in the slightest.
