Now that the steering box has been rebuilt we can mount it onto the tractor and finally bring it all together. This effectively completes the front axle rebuild as well, so quite a milestone!

After setting mine up when I got to the wheel alignment I had to turn one way and jump a tooth on one side gear to get it to line up correctly. I just undid the tie rods and turned the necessary way with some thread showing on the tie rod ends. Mine had very badly bent tie rods when I stripped it so when I got some nice straight ones it was way out of wack.

Just grind a little on both sides of the middle of the halfmoons, and use the wheel instead of a wrench when adjusting play.

Some one told me that if you grind the noddles of the top of the drop arms you can then install new oil seals, can any body advise if this is true.

Hi John, people do do this, but you do run the risk of damaging the new seal anyway. If you’re in the middle of a field during harvest time then sure it’s a quick fix. Personally I’d rather do the job right and have opportunity to clean out and inspect the inside of the steering box anyway. Hope this helps 👍😉
