Our fine-edge visit to the ANDE Rope yielded little with the Petrified Fish PF719 in 12C27 Steel. How will a Dual Grit Edge fare, can dual grit sharpening save the day for 12C27 this time.
Also check out my tutorials on dual grit sharpening.
What's a dual grit edge, you may ask?
Think: high performance aggressive knife edge!!! The dual grit method is a specific method for sharpening one side of the edge coarse and the other fine - an updated tutorial is below:
• CPM MagnaCut Dual Grit...
And the results have been observed by independent testing:
• You Won't Believe How ...
If you're curious about the science behind the edge mechanics, check out this scienceofsharp.com article in which Dr. Todd Simpson analyzes the effect:

Stating the obvious, but have you thought about getting the same model knife in case it's just an anomaly?

@@homeslicesharpening It''s worth a shot - especially considering how much effort you've put in so far. I have to admit, i do enjoy the relatively extreme response to a pesky burr. I know you're learning regardless, so it's kind of a no lose situation, but it's amusing on some level. Oh, btw, after i do the wood trick, i strop again - very carefully. I don't think it will matter in this case, but thought I'd mention it.
