This is my Radio Controlled 1/48 scale Battleship, USS Tennessee BB43. She is 12ft / 4m long and I am still adding things to it. I had to build its own trailer to transport and store. She is launched and retrieved the same as a normal boat and I built her own WWII dock to park it when on the water. Together with her own Tug and a Collier cargo ship 'River Burnett' to escort, also both in 1/48 scale. River Burnett is designed to sink, then I can raise it again with a switch on on the transmitter.
The working search lights on Tennessee are surefire tactical torch heads, which puts a good solid beam of light across the water when night sailing. Besides the navigation lights she also has superstructure illumination lights together with working street lamps on the dock. All four motors are water cooled with cooling fans throughout the ship and directed out the funnel. She has her own sound system which I can play 6 different pre-recorded sounds. This includes ship announcements, 1940s music and a call to battle stations with an anti air battle. It also has pre recorded morse code that is displayed from signal lamps near the bridge. I can rotate the main gun turrets and I am about to build the firing mechanism of flash and smoke. The sound for the guns is already in the sound system. She is close to 100% scale, however not 100%, as I added things like a bow thruster etc. All of the other actions you can see in the movie.
The Tennessee is made from Timber, sheet metal, white metal, fiberglass, bits of my kids toys, anything that I could lay my hands on really. You are only limited by your imagination.
Some of the photos have been taken by a really talented photographer at the club. River Burnett was built by a very experienced model craftsman. I just gave it a birthday and added some TLC
She normally sails at the Sunshine Coast Model Boat Club, Sunshine Coast Australia.

I hope you enjoy watching as much as I have enjoyed building her.

With this level of scale detail, I wouldn't have even blinked if the main guns started firing 22LR. "Yup, checks out."

thanks for that, I have finally worked out how to get the main guns to fire just flash and smoke. The onboard sound system already has the main guns firing sound. So see how we go

One video on KZbin that humbled me: a modeler living in Japan made a 3 foot long INCREDIBLE replica of the USS Arizona. I don't know how to look up the video because KZbin can bring up results with titles that aren't in English. Even with the camera 10 inches away, it was difficult to tell if this was a model or a view of an actual ship if one didn't know the Arizona had been sunk. What blew me away is that although it was mostly a kit, he hand made half of the parts for it!

Absolutely fantastic; I really liked the freighter, it's the style I like best, kind of like a coastal steamer of the early to middle 1900's. FYI the Tennessee was refitted with the 14 inch barrels of the USS Arizona so when used in the Normandy invasion it was said it was the Arizona getting her licks in. Same in the Pacific in 1945 against the Japanese. Love your models. CT, USA.

Looks more like a WW1/1910s 'Hog Islander'. Basically the predecessor of the Liberty/Victory ships, the ships were mass produced but often times before WW1 and by one or two companies with very minor alterations, like different masts, slightly longer than the other, that kind of stuff.

Actually it was Nevada that got the 14"/45 gun barrels from Arizona. Tennessee used 14"/50 guns, longer barrels, higher velocity, more punch.
@raybame5816
@raybame5816 Жыл бұрын
@@USSEnterpriseA1701 You are correct. In my zeal over his model, I confused my facts. The Nevada did not have those guns at Normandy, in late '44 she received the A's reconditioned barrels for use on Okinawa and Iwo Jima, better yet.

As I recall she was in Buckner Bay, Okinawa on VJ Day (the day Japan surrendered) Aug 14, 1945. The surrender ceremony in Tokyo Bay was held on September 2, 1945 but Aug 14 is the actual day the Japanese surrendered. USS Pennsylvania was torpedoed in Buckner Bay on Aug 12, 1945 with Admiral Oldendorf aboard. He had just transferred his flag from Tennessee to Pennsylvania on the morning of Aug 12 and Pennsylvania was torpedoed that evening around sunset. On Aug 13, 1945, Oldendorf transferred his flag back to Tennessee from Pennsylvania. At that time the old battleships were designated under Battleship Squadron 1. By 22 September Tennessee was stationed at Wakayama, Honshu Japan accepting the surrender of Vice Admiral Hoka and Rear Admiral Yofi. Hope the info helps.
