First question that comes to mind is there any cut off for overcharged or over temperature? Over voltage? Is there a BMS at all... Maybe it's MOSFET(s) have failed closed... Would love to see you try and see if it does cut off at 14.6... If there is a BMS that doesn't cut off for any reason it's kind of a tree that fell in the woods situation... I would absolutely love to see you pull a "Will Prowse" and pop it open....

I wonder if it even has a BMS in it. I ordered one but now wondering if it even has a good BMS unit or even one at all. Could you ir someone do a tear down. I am curious to see why it will perform the way it does. What do say how a bout a look o side the battery. Thanks

Brad Cagle reviewed this same battery and did extensive low temp demonstration. It said in manual it had low temp so I’m also confused ? Because I only want this if it has low temp . Gonna be using for electronics in boat

I was wrong and Brad is correct. It does have Low temp charging protection. I didn't see it in the documentation. I've removed that part in the description of the video. Thanks!

Would this be a good replacement for a UPS small 12V lead acid battery that no longer provides much run time when the power goes out? Just wondering if the charging electronics in that small UPS would be compatible with this LiFePO4 battery. Thanks in advance. Love your channel!

If the battery you're replacing is 12v then this battery would work just fine. Thanks for the comment.

So the fact that in a UPS the battery stays fully charged all the time and only gets called upon 2 or 3 times a year when the power goes out doesn't degrade the life of a LiFePO4 battery? @@OffGridBasement

Possibly the mains charging switched on when I was changing the series parallel battery, 12v cables seemed to be full of energy and sparked up way more than usual blowing the LUGS off. Maybe a more simple Victron or equivalent system way forward. The 150 DC fuse did not blow so maybe we should look at that would a Breaker be better. PowMr is toast.

Need to use a "disconnect" that has a "spark break"...just remember that DC Voltage is used for welding because of the easy "spark-ability" so you need a disconnect that places a physical barrier between the contacts when switched to the "off" position!!!

Could do with another switch come to think of . Between the series links , Tricky when voltage drops below 10.5 V abd BMS shuts off. Have to isolate each 12v battery when have to wake it up. Without sparks.

It depends on if other protections work. There should be a high temperature protection that would shut off the battery.

At a minimum you need to have a fuse sized to protect your wiring. I prefer the MRBF or HABF type fuses that mount in a fuse holder directly to the battery terminal. Best to get them from a reputable source/brand. Then you need to assume that the wiring inside that battery is also safe at the limit of your fuse. Normally I don't worry about that, but they claim over-amp discharge protection and it doesn't have that, so what else did they skimp on?

Wish you had a DMM on the terminals for voltage during these tests. Voltage sag will tell us if these cells are truly capable of discharging this kind of amperage. Dipping below 2.8V'ish (kind of where most A123 cells sit when at their max C rate) is a sign that you're pushing it too hard.

@@OffGridBasementjust a couple other points. I watched some other videos including a teardown and it appears this DOES indeed have low temp protoection and it has quite the impressive BMS The cells are prismatic....which is somewhat surprising but I guess 3C prismatic 100Ah cells DO exist. Not sure who makes them so please open this up and check the QR code. I know Lishen makes a few higher than 1C/2C prismatic cells but most of them are a bit smaller than 100Ah. My first guess was pouch cells too since this is smaller than the LiTime/Redodo/PowerQueen variety of Minis... Obviously the ultimate high discharge prismatic LiFePO4 would probably be the LEV60F's that Jehu Garcia has been promoting lately. BatteryHookup has them slightly cheaper at $30 a piece and I"m sure their shipping is probably slightly less. At 74Ah each they can do a 600A discharge...and while I wouldn't say its a pure continuous rating its damn close and definitely more than 30 seconds. Even if you aren't picking the lowest IR cells out of 100's of them you can still do 600A...so pretty much an 8C or 9C rate...so likely 5C continuous. I don't know of any other prismatics that can touch this that are LiFePO4...Lishen has 8C 25Ah prismatics..and there are a lot of pouch cell or bigger cylindrical cell options. Gushen has their 10C 22Ah and 25Ah (new, most of them out there are 22Ah) cylindrical cells that are 46280? or something. A123 would probably be the king. Their 20Ah pouch cells are a true 20C cell. Plenty of videos on KZbin of people taking a 12V pack of those and pushing out 400A while staying around 11V or a bit higher. To do better than that you have to do LTO and I think the Plananos or the Lishen 18AH/26Ah LTO cells are probably some of the best. Toshiba SCIBS are insane too...I think its their 10Ah cell that is 75C and their 20Ah cell is 35C...honestly I still think I'd go with the Lishens though because I've seen enough videos on KZbin to prove the Lishens really do kzbin.info/www/bejne/rafWd4l3Ys2jqdE That video of the 18Ah is insane. Starting at 16V he applies a 500A load and they drop to 15V immediately and after a few seconds they pretty much settle to 14V. All 6 cells are sitting at 2.5V so still above their nominal of 2.4V (most LTO is 2.3V I think). I use 38120 Headways for spot welding and sometimes I use a 12S8P pack of 26650 A123 M1B cells (cut into 3 chunks to make 12V packs)...can't parallel two of those 4S8P packs or it'll blow my spot welder up. Based on the math I've seen in the kWeld manual, a battery with an IR of 4'ish milliohms that is ~12V is about 1500A of power...not sure if thats a DCIR number or AC IR number. I'd be inclined to say DC IR since the math for I=V/R is likely based off DC IR...but my 4S8P A123 packs come out to 4.6mR AC IR...havent tested them for DC IR but I should try...I'd guess its probably ~10mR or so? So maybe I'm getting 900 or 1000 amps out of each 12V pack and thats why my JQ-DHJ02B spot welder blew up (my first one) when I tried to parallel packs. Should have trusted the overpower warning LED's. I think this 12V battery would be a good power source for anyone using one of those 15 or 20 dollar PCB spot welder boards. So long as the mosfets on it aren't complete junk you can do 0.30mm thick pure nickel and some decent copper nickel sandwich with those PCBS so long as you have the right power source. WAY too much bullshit in the world of Lipos and their garbage ass C ratings. SMC and Turnigy appear to be some of the only companies that actually have packs with cells that measure 1mR or less (in the 5Ah to 9Ah pack size). CNHL can suck my dick...pack I got from them was trash.

Not a fan of the pouch cells that they use in those tiny batteries..Is there even a BMS in that thing..Would much rather have prismatic cells, in those premade batteries, which come in the regular size premade 100 Ah batteries..Would much rather buy my own LIFEPO4 280Ah Eve or Catl prismatic cells and build my own batteries..Those cells are far superior to the 100 AH cells in premade batteries...But that was impressive, have to open that thing up and see what is going on in there..

Pouch cells are in some ways better than prismatic....Definitely not worse at all. I'd say there's really no difference between them in terms of cycle life, temp and power overall. Definitely a difference in energy density/weight. If you want me to pull up actual data on it I can. But this battery does indeed have prismatic cells. And a BMS.

And while the 280/304Ah prismatics are superior in terms of $/kwh to just about anything else on the market (especially when American companies are selling them for $100 or $110 plus shipping) they definitely aren't so hot in terms of C rate. In the 50Ah to 100Ah arena there are several very very nice pouch (and prismatic) cells that have 3C or 5C discharge rates. The LEV60F's are 74Ah and have roughly an 8C discharge rate...I'd say 5C continuous and 8C is a 30 second burst even for the cells that have degraded the most in storage (since the supply right now from Jag35 and BH is NOS) I think A123 even had/has something larger than the 20Ah 20C continuous/30C burst cells that are so famous. Those are pouch cells that blew the world away and their cycle life even at higher C rates is impressive.

@@ericklein5097 Pouch cells are usually, almost always 3,000 cycles to 80%, my Catl cells are 10,000 cycles to 80%..Plus I've had pouch cells that leaked and died twice in 2 different applications..And I know the battery has a BMS, obviously not a good one..Those small batteries usually come with pouch cells, and I would be skeptical, if I never opened one up..In 4 years of everyday use, my Catl cells went from testing at 292 AH when brand new, to 288 AH, about a month ago, still well above their rated capacity..And there is a huge difference in the cells in premade batteries and the cells you can get from manufacturers..I've built over fifty systems, and have used many different batteries..But, believe whatever you want..Ya, I was referring to solar storage batteries, you're not finding pouch cells with high C. ratings in these kind of batteries, that's a different thing altogether..And I've built a battery out of the Lev60F's, but not for solar, it was a dune buggy and they were prismatic cells, from Japan..
