thank you for posting. based on 20+ years experience in industrial induction heating, i suggest you rework the board & coil leads to bring the coil leads as close together as possible, w/o touching. insulate coil leads w/ 0.06" ptfe [teflon]. you want the CL-CL distance of the coil leads as close as possible, w/o touching. perhaps a small fan-cooled radiator in the coil-cooling flow ?

Ripple current in the capacitors will be high but limited by the thin connecting wires. I made an induction heater about 50 years ago. I used a water cooled triode, the work coil was 1/2 inch pipe. There was a large tank of de-ionised water that was pumped around the valve and the work coil. the power was 10KW, 10KV power supply built from a big mains transformer.. I enjoyed your video

Could you tell me how efficient your unit was as compared to this unit Bill ??? Would you be able to use your first made unit to heat a house just using electricity ?? I am very interested in using this technology for home heating. Please drop you thoughts of my direction of thinking on my idea Sir. Thanks and drop a line fella.
@billhall87452 жыл бұрын
@@victoryfirst2878 Hi, I made two. I don't know the efficiency. Would not have been so good all that time ago. Not suitable for heating a home.. My first one was for medical research. The work coil had a glass tube which went through it. Samples of lung tissue taken from people who had died from asbestos inhalation was placed in the tube. Oxygen was passed through it. The lung tissue burnt away leaving the asbestos behind so that the amount of asbestos could be seen. The second one was for a technical college. Both were very big, Had a large tank of distilled water which was pumped around the work coil and valve. To reduce the amount of electricity to heat a house you could use a ground source heat pump or an air source but not as good. Heat is taken from the ground or the air in a process similar to a freezer. In a freezer the heat is taken from the food and is given off as heat at the back. Search heat pumps for more detail.

@TwinShards2 жыл бұрын
Imo i believe water wouldn't be the best option, because it would require more heat to make the bend. Sand would leave some particles stuck in the tube and potentially break off after some time. However salt, sound like the best option. Because it would act like sand when heating the tube but you can disolve any remaining salt with water.

Thanks for this interesting video. I'm going to purchase the similar device but the one with a nominal power of 2500W (it has six MOSFET instead of four). Nice to see it working, I think that the big challenge is to have a good power supplier and to control temperature.of the single parts. For the moment I'll be able to work with about 30V and in that conditions I should obtain about 1500 W,. In the future I'll prepare a DIY power supply able to give the 48 volts with at least 60A in order to push the device at it maximum performance. Thanks for the video, I'll let you know the results of my tests 😀

Thanks for the video - a few comments. First the issue with the big caps is the ripple current rating which needs to be over 50a for 35a draw - none had a spec showing but bigger is usually better. Second point is that for most of the incoming sine waveform it is the caps that are providing the load current so why are the wires to the cap(s) so puny ? Lastly, though the supply volts are only 48 the high frequency ac on the coil will be several hundred V so watch where you put your fingers when it is running !

I just bought a 48v dc power supply off Amazon for $85.99+etc... They are actually adjustable voltage. It says 32 but mine adjusted down to the ideal 30vdc to power the induction heater. It's funny I didn't think about cooling the tube like that so I just ordered a 6v 2a power supply to run my 12v pump which is made for a 1/4"id tubing. That copper line is a lot smaller, so I figure 6v should be ideal to keep the pump from overheating from back pressure, as it usually runs 12v 2a.

If voltage less than 12v ZVS can't work that cause short circuit. Also put a cooling fan to heatsink cooling diode bridge. The polarized filter capacitor for DC voltage need a resistor few K ohms connect parallel with each single cap so it can charge balance or the capacitor will blow up and emf cause from zvs could cause capacitors overheat make it blow

If you use exterior tubing with wire centered in it, wouldn't you have an adjustable coil? You just need to make sure fluid can flow through the tube and over the wire! Cheers! If you try it, please let me know how it goes! It might be an interesting idea with interesting results! 🙏 Added input.... You may be able to use plastic and coil it around the wire before you insert it into the tube! That should allow for flexibility and coolant flow!

Why you can not put this graphite crucible on a usual kitchen electric cooking plate, which runs on a usual 220 (or 110) V ? Or take a spiral wire from an usual 220V electric home heater and mount it round on the graphite crucible? It would be the same 1.5 - 2 KW, so would give the same temperature result.

100KHz going into the copper coil, then, into a steel workpiece is what causes it to heat up. Workpieces must react to magnetic fields, if they don’t, this induction coil won’t affect them. The copper pipe isn’t magnetic. The close proximity of the hot workpiece is what causes the copper pipe to heat up.

Rhw cooling system is t just inadequate, the materials used will literally not hold out long enough to provide substantial or long term use. It'd be a miracle if it lasted 15 minutes of continuous use even once. It was also completely unnecessary to plumb in a connection through the reservoir that had to be fitted and sealed when both tubes could have simply been fed in from the top. In fact, it would have been better if for cooling if that had been done as there wouldn't be any extra fittings constricting flow rate.
