Just ordered the exact same set-up except with a window in the back. In a week there will be at least two of these Idaho tents in Arkansas. Being in a hammock family I've seen your hammock posts for a while but hadn't noticed you had the same tent until after I'd made the order. Probably won't see the four dog stove until the end of March. Maybe we'll see you in the woods this year.

This is a really great set up. I drive a 2005 FORD Explorer SUV and was looking at a small trailer but everything I see is over $10,000, even used. For $3000 to $4000 I could get the tent, stove, cots and all the other stuff. Cabala's and Wholesale Sports have some nice canvas wall tents so I think that's the direction i'll go. I'd also keep my Remington 870 shotgun close by for defense. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. Do you have anymore showcasing this tent? Cheers from Canada

The first big game hunting trip (mid 80's) I went on was to Colo (I lived in ILL at the time) and saw wall tents out there, so when I started to hunt the mid-west I bought a wall tent, but we were the only ones using them. Now you see them more and more. I'm just surprised it took so long for them to catch on, a very comfortable, easy to set up, home away from home. I live in Michigan now and most hunting camps are campers, but I'll take a wall tent any day, any way you look at it's a better option---price, storage, space inside and many others. As a group we now own 4 of them
@smokehousehammock44816 жыл бұрын
I agree with you.. I prefer a tent or tarp over a camper trailer... Love a tent with a wood stove... I've had this tent awhile to set up at my dad's farm a few months at a time during hunting season... what I use for a quick setup is the smokehouse outfitter. I cam have it setup in 5 minutes vs 30 for the 12x14. it can be setup with pole or strap. This is it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZbYmKdrh79-o5Y comes in different fabrics.

The first time I saw a bear in the wild it was a fair distance away. For a few minutes I was thinking "that is the biggest dog I have ever seen". Then I realized it was a bear, and was quite glad it was heading the other way. Last July I saw a cub blunder out of the forest a distance in front of me. It was cute, but thankfully it returned to the forest before mama bear came looking for it.

I thought about going one size larger, but every time I put it up at my Dad's farm for hunting season and it stays up for 6 months I aways think the 12x14 has plenty of room and it nice to have the fire burning low to get that longer burn time. I make a smaller tent for hammock or ground I can set up in 5 min... thats my go to shelter. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZbYmKdrh79-o5Y

+rob greene Rob,,, I love the tove 4-dog-stove. I've got a 2 gal water tank I use once in a while, best to just put pan of water on top when you ready for hot water. currently I have it on some land of mine next to wilderness area. I have a queen bed in it, table, and broom stick tied to rafters to hang clothes. will have it setup for around 5 to 6 months

Nice overview. Can I ask, how flexible is the frame before the canvas gets over it? I imagine it moves quite a bit, maybe the poles fall out of their joins sometimes, but when the canvas gets over it, it all pulls tight. is that right?
@smokehousehammock44818 жыл бұрын
+The Peak Oil Company The frame may move a little but its still tight before the tent is on. As far as poles falling out of joint,,, never had a problem with that. They stay in place. I've had this tent up at my Dad's farm From Sept to March. 6 months. Even with the Tarp on top with no air space, I got no mildew at all... with rain/snow/winds, it stayed solid, no problems at all.

nice set-up....but I wonder what would happen if a tree fell on it?or even just a branch off one of those hardwoods would not be too good.Tents are nice but I would set up where no big trees could fall on it.Gravity Never tires out and wood is heavy and deadly.
@smokehousehammock44819 жыл бұрын
+JBodine67 Nothing is a for sure thing. High winds, lightening, snow/ice the list goes on whether your out in the open or not. I do alot of camping and mainly camp in a hammock which u need trees. I've never had a limb or tree fall yet,,, not saying it wont happen. The shade is nice to have and currently I have it set up on my dads farm under trees and it will be out there for about 4 months... Its your choice where to set up... Have fun camping...

If you had it to do over, would you buy the same tent or do anything differently as far as adding windows, a back door, bigger tent, etc?
@smokehousehammock44819 жыл бұрын
I do like the tent I have with the 4-dog-stove, But, if I could do it all over again I would buy the bravo canvas supergrade. Either the 15x15 or 15x18 with a 5-dog-stove... I would have the stove jack in the wall vs roof. Currently I do have a back door, I would not have the back door and have a window instead. If you plan on using a canvas tent in the Spring/Summer, Yes I would have a back door with screen.

Smokehouse Hammock - It’s a good idea to take precautions to keep bears away from your tent in Colorado: set up kitchen, eat, and store food 100 ft. from tent, and change out of you cooking/eating clothing (storing them with food) before going to bed. You may get away with neglecting those safety precautions many times, but luck can run out! A teenager camping in CO a year or two ago woke up in the middle of the night to a “crunching sound” - that sound was a bear biting down on his skull. Luckily, his friends fought off the bear!

How do you keep your tarp affixed to the awning frame? (Zipties?) Do you stake the bottom of the tarp as well?
@smokehousehammock44818 жыл бұрын
+NVGUY4732 The awning tarp overlaps the tent about a foot and main tarp overlaps it,,, the front side, I use a cord and overlap or go around the inside of pole with cord then run it though I of tarp then then back around pole then I of tarp untill I've done the whole front side. Yes,,, Stake to ground on both sides...

Maybe you should man up then and do what you like. Your wife shouldn’t make all your decisions for you. Being whipped is bad for the soul man. If you love this stuff and your wife prevents you from enjoying it then you married the wrong girl.
