I did some research on the 13.7" vs 14.5" barrel length debate A 13.7" with a 2.866" SOLGW NOX will have a total barrel length of 16.566" A 14.5" with a 2.125" BCM MOD1 will have a total barrel length of 16.625" That's a difference of only .059" Fifty-Nine Thousandths of an Inch That's a reduction of only 1.498 Millimeters As we all know by Decreasing the barrel length on a 5.56 rifle, we are Increasing the Blast and Flash while decreasing the projectile velocity which has a detrimental effect on the ballistic performance of rounds that require fragmentation to impart their energy. I would rather keep the .8 inches of barrel to help combat these negative effects while only increasing the overall length by little more than a millimeter. The military spent years of research and millions of dollars to arrives at their selection of the 14.5" as the US Standard Issue M4 platform. The 13.7" to me seems to be a solution looking for a problem, but its operator as fug and power to you brothers for running one. Stay Violent.

Exactly what you said 🙃👍! I’ll keep the extra barrel length, and if I want to go shorter, it’s AR-pistol time between 10.25-11.5” so it can use a folder and fit in a normal-sized backpack! The 13.7 permanently pinned is still as long as the 14.5” permanently pinned lol.

well if you put a 2.866" SOLGW NOX on a 16.1" barrel you end up with a total length of almost 19". And the loss of power is not substantial enough to diminish the added manouverability and weightsaving. Also you have to factor in that you have the weight closer to your body. For example carrying a 30 pound dumbell with an outstretched arm is way harder than carrying it next to your chest. So a smaller gun will be more manageable in that regard.

@Traderjoe3373 жыл бұрын
I actually disagree. I built a 13.7 almost identical to the one in this video. 13.7” Rosco purebred mid length barrel, Aero upper/lower, Midwest handguard. My opinion is that what you are going to put on the muzzle is what makes all the difference. If you want to rock an A2 birdcage, then just roll with the 16”. You’ll get a good lil bit more velocity, and the muzzle device isn’t going to add much length. If you’re specifically going to put a Surefire or a Dead Air (keymo) suppressor then that’s the only time I’d say sure rock the 13.7. If you want something more compact you can get a 14.5, and it looks like the industry is shifting over to 13.9” barrels bc of how annoying it is to find a muzzle device that will get a 13.7” barrel to 16”. So I guess I’ll have to check out the 13.9” barrels coming out and maybe I’ll change my mind, but for now, I think 14.5” is the way to go if you want to pin & weld. I should be getting my tax stamp in the near(ish) future, and I’ve got this 13.7” gun that’s P&W and I don’t think rugged has a muzzle device that is long enough to bring it to 16”, but that’s what my 12.3” gun is for anyway 😎.

So I wanted to basically build a "poor man's" Sig Spear Lt since the Lt is hard to get and stupid expensive. I don't really consider it a cheap rifle though as most of the parts are going to be a mix of premium, better than mil spec, and mil spec at the very least. I was going to go for a 16" barrel, but I wanted this rifle to be effective in tight spaces while having reasonable performance at 300 meters at least. I am in a bit of a tough spot. The upper I am going with is Foxtrot Mike 13.9 upper. It is basically 14 inches, but I wish that it were a 14.5 like the M4 I was issued. I don't like losing velocity, but I do also plan on running a suppressor on this rifle. The Foxtrot Mike upper only has 16" or 13.9". If I do run the can I want with the 13.9, the barrel length will be roughly equivalent to an 18" barrel. I can definitely work with that length. But I really wish that they offered a 14.5 option. I know that people say you can go as low as 11.5" and still get good performance. But from the data I have seen, I really don't like going too short. Still, the Foxtrot Upper has 95% of all the features I want in an upper. I also liked the BRN-180, but I don't like it's take down process or the reciprocating charging handle on the right side. I wish they would just make a left side charging version. I love AR15 rifles, but I feel like some of their features are outdated compared to what is available now. I am mostly okay with 13.9, but I still hope Foxtrot Mike decides to get a 14.5 option.

Would be good to weigh both rifles without the light and offset and anything that is different than the 16" rifle. I'd guess that the 13.9 would weight less and be almost as accurate or even as accurate. Mobility is the key, 2 inches of less rifle makes it easier to push it around and get on target easily.
@robertdole53913 жыл бұрын
How much easier? Nothing is free and is loss of 2 inches worth the >$200 it will cost you for the new 13.9” build when you could just get a pistol or even a tax stamp and then you can have your 10.5” - 12.5” and be noticeably shorter than the 13.9” + brake (16.1-16.5”)

I want to get a suppressor that is about 4.2" long. 20" length seems too much for a general purpose rifle, so I'm thinking of shortening it to 13.7". The reason for the suppressor is also a smaller flash, which, however, becomes larger by shortening the barrel. This would make the total length with suppressor the same as the current configuration - 18". I don't know if this length will be effective enough when shooting, for example, even at 400m. It should also be added that in our country there are no meaningless barrel length restrictions - so all the US information seems to me to be irrelevantly distorted around the 16" dimension. I have an Energetic Armament Arx on the way (I know pew science hates the can, good for him) because it was the lightest can I could find to suit my build I wanted to hit 5.5 lbs without a magazine but everything else. The problem is what to do with my upper. I bought a 10.3" Smoke Composites CF handguard and a SOLGW Nox for a keymo mount. Was going to have my barrel cut to 13.7 and pin/weld. But part of me is thinking to just SBR it and get a Faxon gunner 12.5" and use a Jmac customs brake as my muzzle device. Going that route would save me 6 ounces on the barrel, 1.5 ounces on the muzzle device, and 4.5 ounces on the keymo not being there. That's a shitload of weight off the end of the barrel. But then I have to ask for permission just to leave the state with it. I could get a 16" Faxon and have it cut to 13.7" and pin/weld that, which would still save 6 ounces off the barrel at least. Or 16" Faxon with the jmac brake and save 4.5 ounces on barrel, 1.5 on MD, and 4.5 on keymo adapter. But I think a 16" barrel with a 6" suppressor using a 10.3" handguard might look stupid? What the f do I do? What would you do? I just purchased a 13.7” Sons of liberty barrel yesterday. It’s not .223 wylde. How do you feel about the difference in barrels? 5.56 barrel vs the .223 - I barely purchase .223 and have several other ARs that are .223 wylde. I think my 13.7 is going to be a heavy duty serious weapon that I’m going to go hard on… kinda why I went with the 5.56 barrel. Are you using the VOLTR A5 buffer? I heard those combined make thee absolute smoothest shooting rifle.

Well now I don’t feel so bad for having a 14.5 sbr lol. It’s 32 7/8” long with stock in the same spot. More barrel and performance, less length! Guess it wasn’t a total waste of $200 😂

haha its not to bad other than you can't leave the state without telling the fed bois like I can;)

@@themosindude7925 maybe a 13.7 sbr would be the way to go instead of a 14.5 🤔🤔🤔🤔

direct thread suppressors are better..simpler,cheaper,lighter KISS Consider a 12.5 or 13.7 ar pistol with direct threaded suppressor or a 16" with a Witt machine mini suppressor...sometimes the "fixes to a problem" modern solutions are trying to find a problem to fix.

roscoe thicc modified government profile it is terrible choice for weight BA hanson or faxon would clap any 16" barrel weight wise even 16" pencil barrel. Sig long prong flash hider is lighter than surefire/be meyer/JP prong FH.
@themosindude792510 ай бұрын
You don't want a pencil barrel on a duty rifle b/c it's gonna heat up quick and start throwing rounds in prolonged strings of fire. But agreed, their are lighted MD's but I plan on running a rc2 thus why I went with the heavier SF MD.

@@themosindude7925 Duty rifle? Not patrol type build where you realistic expect to face only one or two threat at time and easily put them down with one or two shot each?
@themosindude792510 ай бұрын
what happens when you patrol into 1 -2 guys, then their buddies come running once they hear gun shots? Just thoughts. Plus the possibility of parts not being available so you want you parts to be able to last as long as possible. @@TrollinCrazyRussian
