The tool you used on the first decoupage is called a squeegee, it's actually used in the sign business to squeeze the application paper down to the vinyl. Great tool to have. My husband had a sign business for 35 years

Omg is it really?! I can’t even remember how I found it. I assume another creator had it linked. Or Royce mentioned it in one of her classes. Haha thank you for letting me know!!!! 🥰

Gorgeous! You are really bold in your use of color, your design of each product, etc...and I thrifted one of those kitchen cutting boards, too, and now I know what I'm intending to do with it: you're absolutely correct, the stencil pops against that black stone. ❤❤❤ Thanks for the video ~

Girl... I can't even imagine the amount of paint that you must go through when changing your mind about the color of pieces on almost every project, lol and even after painting the whole night stand one color & then changing you mind 🤣 I do get it tho, the struggle is real ❤

Right?! I will say I only had one coat on there. So basically I used about the same amount overall bc I only needed about 1.5 coats of that light blue 😁🤦🏻♀️

I typically get my decoupage paper from unicorndustdesigns.com/collections/rocycle-decoupage-papers. If Sammie doesn’t have the paper I’m looking for in stock, I shop at www.sonnetsgardenblooms.com/product-category/roycycled-decoupage-papers/. 😊

All of you seem to use IOD transfers and they are SO expensive! Are there any other brsnds?
@SparksofJoyStudio6 ай бұрын
Yes - Re-design with prima is another brand I like. Dollar tree has transfers you can try and they are actually pretty good. I will say to be mindful of some of the cheaper options on Amazon. I tried a few and they were AWFUL 😣
@Em22-wtf6 ай бұрын
I say this ALLL the time.. the idea of thrift flips and upcycle is....or WAS.....the idea of taking something that might otherwise ended up in the landfill and using creativity and some paint and other THRIFTY ways to upcycle the itme without going literally broke over it, but now IOD sponcers alllllllll these "upcyclers" & they go from thrifty upcycles to costing more than it would if you just bought it brand new! I used to buy all the newset & latest releases and not only are they expensive and gone WAY up in price plus you also have to pay shipping, you can buy 2 transfer books and itll cost over $100! I just dont understand how people keep pushing these things in the "thrifty" DIY space, they obviously dont have the MAJORITY of their audience in mind when making these videos, esp in todays economy. But, to answer your question, what IVE found works great is I bought Rice Paper (thats what these 'decoupage papers' are actually made with) from Temu (you can ALSO get it on AMazon, I bought from both & found they were the exact same, mant sellers on Temu also sell on AMazon, its just Amazon requires products to already be in the US to meet the shipping times & Temu ships from both US & overseas...I actually order a LOT of crafting items from Temu & Ali Express, lets face it basically everything, including IOD products, are made overseas & when you order from these two aps you are simply cutting out the middle man & buying directly, you just have a longer shipping time of 10 days or less & I've ordered OFTEN through the years, more so than from AMazon)...anyway, I order the Rice paper and then I either get images from public domain sites that have millions of copyright free (if you are a sellers of your items) pictures you can print out and honestly I've come across MANY of these same exact pictures used in the IOD transfers & decoupage papers on these free domain websites. Flickr is a FANTASTIC one and there are also videos on KZbin that show you how to use these sites and gives you many more sites that have the same. Just be sure to search in public domain of Flickr and they always have the copyright use requirements below the picture, some will just ask to credit the artist in your work & Ill put it on my hang tag (I use 2 different hang tags for items in my booth, one with the price & booth number that gets removed when they ring the person up and the other decorative tag that stays with the item & has my name & description on it). Graphic Fairy is another great place to get free print outs that have no copyright requirements, I also have a membership to Digital Collage Club and she puts out all kinds of printables every month that you can use on items you sell. After I find the pic I want, I then print it onto the rice paper, I just make sure to change the paper style to Legal bc the rice paper is legal paper length and I also change the setting to Shrink to Fit (something like that, your printer may be different). Once it prints, I spray it with hairspray, any old brand will do, my fav is the purple Aussie brand because I love the way it smells, lol! I do that just to help it to not smudge the ink when I use mod podge. Then I just mod podge whatever picture or part of the picture I printed out onto my item! Its east, its cheap bc the rice paper is under twelve bucks and the print out is free. Its also not a One Use product like all these expensive transfers are. I do pick up transfers from Dollar Tree, I like using them as accents, Ive never had a problem with the DT transfers. One other idea Ive used is the water decal papers you can print onto and then seal with an acrylic sealer then you print whatever picture you want onto it, and it acts like a decal, but you have to slide it off the paper with water. Ive used those, its great if your item is flat, lol, not so great if your item has any kind of curve to it. Also, another fun place for printouts is Etsy, there are a ton of great digital artists there that sells some amazing digital art that you simply download and print! I have found artists that sell packs of 100 images in a theme of colors or say beachy or vintage and there are always digital artists that are running sales that Ive bought from at fifty to ninety percent off! Fair warning though...when you go looking, lol, you can spend HOURS finding all kinds of great digital art and get lost in it! Lol, but thats how Ive found some amazing sellers! Hope this helps! I know I get frustrated when it seems like every thrift flip or upcycle video I click on is FULL of super expensive products, its like sure you can make anything look great when you have access to hundreds of dollars worth of expensive product...but can you do the same with paint that costs less than $10, a printer, & whatever 'junk' you have laying around in your stash or stuff from the thrift store?? There are a few on YT that still stick by their original TRUE thrift flips, Sherry from Canterbury Cottage is amazing, Our Shabby Cottage is another & Our Green Acres is another & if they do use transfers or molds, they use them here and there, not on every single item & they'll give you ways to use something else bc they are aware that most people cant just spend over $100 on transfers etc... (each transfer book is forty bucks, shipping is another ten...so yes, they are DEF expensive!)
