I'm going to start having my customers watch vids like this. So they know that add ons. ADD ON $,,,, and the level of cut,buff,and polish they want. Are hundreds of hrs. Not just an extra lunch break.... Spot on,and the level of professionalism here pushes me to be better.....👌👍

I can't wait to see the color sanding video. I always thought people would put up to 6+ coats of clear and then clear it as 3 might not be enough.
@AstillDesign10 ай бұрын
Cheers mate, I normally do 4 heavy coats to do 800 hard block. You can do 3 coats hard block then flow coat. Then colour sand. There are some good info in the last couple of road to top 60 series on BOSSXC

Watched with anticipation to see how you could do 2 finishes with no masking line edge because I would have thought that was impossible. I was thinking that if you wet sanded the original 4 coats of clear & went down to 8000 with a random orbital over the black, you may be able to mask off the black to polish the blue, unmask the black, & just wax the black straight over the 8000 scratches.

I find it odd when people talk spray guns, tip sizes etc but never discuss the actual spray gun cap. The gun cap is what determines how flat the clear coat lays down. Matching orange peel on a repair is a classic example of cap selection.

Thanks Paul we will be doing some more stuff in 2024 with PPG so we can cover in more detail.

@sunsetgarage7559 ай бұрын
@@paulcoote3094 They are using SATA guns, and if you are familiar with them you’d know that you can’t just change the cap, you need to change the whole setup. The setup consists of a cap, a needle and the spray head that screws into the body of the gun. They come in a variety of sizes and also HLVP & RP. So talking about caps by themselves makes absolutely no sense.

Awesome mate, I'm in Darwin and waiting for my painter to redo my XW GT Satin Black on the Bonnet for the very reason there is High edges aswell as bits in the satin. Can I ask is satin Blackouts on a bonnet the hardest application to get them right with no edges ? Love ya work as always.
@AstillDesign7 күн бұрын
Its almost imposable to have no edge, as you can tell in this episode. The original Gt stripes were painted after and had an edge. Being acrylic it was fairly thin and wore through.

Hi Howard, I’ve just painted my car with 2k direct gloss with 4 coats, as a non professional sprayer I’ve got a lot of orange peel. I’m trying to colour sand but it’s a massive effort because I started with 1500 wet. Should I go 800 or 100o first? Note everything is by hand, no machines. Thanks and love your work 😊
@AstillDesign10 ай бұрын
Hey mate, 1500 will make it shiny but won't remove the peel. I would suggest 1200 if you haven't done it before. 3 coats of colour is not a lot to work with. 1200 hard block, then 1500 2000 on a softer block. you will need a large twisted lambs wool with a heavy cutter to remove the sanding marks before going to a softer lambs wool.

Oh dear, bloody stripes. No stripes for me, only for Zebras. Cannot stand stripes, especially on high end performance cars, like Ferraris. I once had an XW Phase 2 in Jet Black & took off all the stripes. Each to their own.
