Thank you for posting. I grew up in Rancho Bernardo(around 3:00 into the video) as a teen. I know I-15 quite well. It's been widened over time and still a chore during rush hour. Greetings from San Diego!

Awesome video! One of my favorite stretches of freeway, even though I haven't driven it in years since I moved to Atlanta. I remember when the HOT lanes were carpool lanes that ended at Ted Williams Parkway, and I remember when the stretch between I-805 and I-8 wasn't even a freeway, it was still 40th Street and how bad the traffic would be on that stretch of road

I have driven the entire 1-15 from the Canadian border to San Diego in the early eighties. I believe the section from LA to San Diego was fairly new at that time.

Enjoyed the bonus ride! Quite an interesting stretch of hills, open road and the HOT lanes to boot.

The section south of I-8 is marked both as I-15 and CA-15. The overhead sign southbound is I-15 at I-8 but CA-15 northbound. There is an I-15 sign northbound just past the 805 and on southbound I-5 is a northbound I-15 sign to Riverside, where the road does not go by the way. I thought it was old signage but the new 805 signs still say CA- 15. Meanwhile the MTS Route 10 buses terminate on weekends at I-15 with their headers saying so and the drivers call out the stop as I-15. I wish they'd sign it I-15 with Las Vegas as the destination city.

Love the choice of music. San Diego had a great smooth jazz station and tracks like this is exactly what they would play. Fits the area perfectly, although they could've gave I-15 some dignity to end at I-5. Great ride too!
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I found myself always leaning toward jazz when putting the SD videos together, had to make myself look elsewhere with two of them. I don't know what the I-15 designation does not go all the way to I-15, makes no sense to me although I'm sure there is a story behind it.
@rockersk0810 жыл бұрын
Freewayjim According to the Wikipedia article, the interchange with CA 94 is what prevents the designation, due to left exits and blind merges. I can't find a project page for improvements to it, but I believe there are plans to improve it so I-15 can be extended along the route.

I was really surprised at how busy this freeway was considering the first half of the ride was through rural areas and small communities. Must be lots of demand from IE cities and vice-versa.
@Freewayjim6 жыл бұрын
It's got 8 lanes in those "rural" area for good reason.

Interesting to see that the HOT lanes are "open" in the beginning. Normally when I think of HOT lanes they're physically separated for their entire length.

Freewayjim And I remember when it was the old US-395 with only two lanes per direction for most of the trip from the southern edge of Escondido south, except for the Poway/Mira Mesa stretch. The first few times I was on I-15 on that stretch (the Lake Hodges-Miramar stretch), it was the original US-395 alignment before it was first widened around 1980 or '81. The same is true with the alignment north of Deer Springs Road. I remember when you were routed onto Champagne Blvd. then the current freeway alignment was added as far as CA-76 around 1980, and then to it's current full freeway alignment to and through Riverside county in later years.

So if you the other way from Center City Parkway to Highway 79 - The 15 freeway is called the Avacado Freeway some of the most beautiful driving in Southern California- Lilac. Ridge - it follows the old route US highway 395 - also Centre City Parkway is the old alignment of 395 in the 60s which ends and starts on the 15 freeway

@Bailey.4658 ай бұрын
No, it’s actually both. They also serve as carpool lanes and you don’t even need a transponder. Local here
@RicksTravelogue10 жыл бұрын
I assume carpools have to register when they get their toll tags, otherwise how do the sensors know that you have a passenger in the car?
@Freewayjim10 жыл бұрын
Carpools have to have a FasTrak Tag to use those lanes, I believe there are cameras at the toll sensors that can tell if you are fudging with the carpool or not.
