Rich, really enjoy your videos, my dad had a 79 414A with the RSTOL kit, wow what a performer dropped into some short fields during my college years. Trips to Oskosh, and Southern Florida in the late 80s, what a beautiful example you have here. We looked at the 601P Aerostar, the Mojave, but the 414 is an excellent choice, spacious cabin, able to climb above the weather, the RSTOL kit is unreal

Sounds like a lot of good memories! I was impressed it’s the RSTOL too and surprised we don’t see them more. Thanks for watching!

@@FlyingwithRich I remember my dad calling the FOB in Wolfeboro NH (a farmer who maintained the field) can you plow the runway I am landing there later this morning. He asked what type of aircraft etc...my dad a twin Cessna 414A. There was a silence then, you can't get that in here!!! The runway was pavement then, circa 1988 2800ft sloping down to the water. Fun times

I just flew a 414A for the first time back in August for an interview flight with a similar panel and autopilot. I got the job and will be flying it a lot more next week!

I’m considering a nearly identical Cessna 414 with 335 hp RAM Vii, dual Garmin 600 / 750. It’s not an “A”, therefore it has tip tanks. We will keep the plane down here in San Diego, California USA. Thanks for the review of this one.

Rich...really enjoy your videos. I flew a 1981 414A back in the 90s and absolutely loved how it handled. It flared so nice and could almost kiss the landings as well as a C 177 Cardinal that I flew as well. Laughed at your comment prior to landing versus the 421...got my twin rating in a 310...now there is a plane that makes kissing a landing a tall order.

Beautiful bird and awesome video. I’m upgrading my 421 to a similar panel, minus the autopilot, that will come later in the next round of upgrades. New Wx Radar as well. It will give me some of my airline pilot comfort and piece of mind when flying single pilot IFR in mountainous terrain. Nice job Rich!

I'm betting this was the queen of the fleet, at least in terms of capability. RAM VII + Robertson STOL is truly transformative. I've flown standard 414As before and wouldn't want to use them out of short fields at all, but this puppy is more than capable. I was always wondering why Cessna never partnered with Robertson, and why there hasn't been a 425 version of the STOL kit and why they didn't offer winglets on the 425. imagine a Blackhawk 425 with STOL and winglets..... - maybe you're in 441 territory and why bother, idunno, but the split flaps always kept me away form ownership.

Seems like the manufacturers always leave some big gaps for the modifiers!

@@FlyingwithRich They claim to be financial decisions, as in anything designed by engineers is not automatically cut into production line, but must pass the business case eval.. I make a decent living exploiting those in the Part 25 world. Never tried the Part 23 world though. I may be looking for a 441 soon, FYI.

Do you need a copilot when flying a twin

Depends on the twin - can’t think of any piston twins that require a co- pilot, but some jets do.
