Happy birthday to Nick .....I think Scott is a 99% match...he could do all the songs sound very much like a Nick drake imaginary concert, there is an intensity and an uplifting feel that scott is able to replicate as well as giving it´s own style and melody to the song......Brilliant!!

Ho do you cover a Nick Drake song? They were just too perfect to start with, but if you want to hear them live I guess someone has to cover them. Nick fragile home counties singing voice is so much a part of the songs, especially when you think of how little time he had left after he recorded the songs, makes them so much more mystical and soulful.

To all the clever critics in the comment section: we are all eagerly awaiting for your brilliant covers!

Why? Being a critic doesn't necessitate being accomplished at that area of creativity in which one is critiquing.

The Nick Drake's vocal is unmatched. honestly didn't liked....

That was the equivalent of rocking out. I'm all for twists in covers - in fact, that is pretty much obligatory, otherwise, why bother. But the artist here just didn't get it.
@patricelongchamps98807 жыл бұрын
An ok prestation, but the intonations on lyrics are at the wrong spots. To much stretch and crescendo on words 1.09---- (Drake never did ). He is simply missing the Drake natural intuition. At the end, the rending is a kind of "none-emotional song" and a bit to much "structural". Sorry for the fans

Better than the original

As a singer/songwriter who does very few covers, I always try to honor the original work by not fucking with it. This here is like an artist painting a necklace on the Mona Lisa and saying "look what I did" and pointing at the whole thing. I have never heard any thing else by this artist. But, I can tell you that his ego is too big and his talent, too little. His voice is for shit. He had the perfect set up to do something great. This guy's vocal talent and musicality is marginal. If he were any good, he would have put an melodic twist on it. Personally, I could, but I wouldn't because this song is not about me doing my thing. It is about honoring Nick Drake. Dude's a hack. I can only hope he is a good songwriter, though. My name is Michael McVady, by the way. Look me up here and critique me all you want, thanks.

Maybe you should listen to Scott Mathews then. He, most probably unlike you is an internationally recognised and respected artist.
@4921java8 жыл бұрын
The fact that he is an internationally respected artist, as you say, makes it worse. Too many people, like you, that would applaud that garbage.
@4921java8 жыл бұрын
Ben, you and I both know that doing our own thing with "yesterday" would fail. Any deviation is subtraction. Same with this song. Get real.
@4921java8 жыл бұрын
The song "Yesterday" I mean.

Calm down, man! haha. You're like personally insulted, don't do this. It's a guy singing a song he likes or was invited to. You don't need to freak out about it.
@adamm.16048 жыл бұрын
Honestly, he took WAY too much Liberty with the melody & phrasing of Day is Done. I personally think he made the melody of the song much more boring and much less emotive by trying to force parts where he could go up/loud and try to show off a bit or whatever. Kinda lame; the original melody is TOO beautiful and perfect, it shouldn't be altered at all really; maybe the occasional note at most. If the performance title is The music of Nick Drake, I would've thought that the lead singer would take less liberties with the music.

This is the comment of someone unfamiliar with the concept of emotive art.
