We retired and moved from LA to Anguilla, across the channel from St. Martin in 2014. Perfect weather, warm clear waters, pristine white sand beaches (33) slow pace, no crime, friendly people, English speaking, few rules, no armed police, no DUI laws, no sales tax, lots of local music, 35 square miles, 12,000 people. About 200 expats, mix of Canadian American and Brits-costs about the same as LA. Car insurance about $200 a year, 3 year license $50, Good cheap local produce. Live lobster $5 pound. Cheap fish of all kinds. Decent hospital, one week in a private room with Dr. fees cost us $970. Clinic visit is $20. Plenty of activities/ clubs/ organizations. Easy airline access to Europe or US (JetBlu to NYC $350 RT) 20 minute ferry ride to French St. Martin or Dutch side St Maarten for shopping, culture, weekends. Perfect for retired couples with family in USA. Worth checking out or just come for a vacation.

I don’t agree with more than half of he list. Here’s my own list: 🇵🇱 Poland - Lots to do, very cheap, and they absolutely adore Americans. You’ll be glad you came. 🇬🇷 Greece - Due to the financial crisis, real estate and cost of living in comparison to the USA is very very cheap. Getting citizenship there is a bit messy, but they have golden visa programs which can get you permanent residency, if that’s what you’re in to. 🇳🇱 Netherlands - very modern country with cool people, and lots of stuff going on. Feels like New York, and is quite cosmopolitan. It is a bit expensive though, but quality of life is worth it. 🇵🇦 Panama - our friends near the equator. It’s not completely crime ridden like most of Central America and actually has infrastructure. They lack a bit in English, but there’s plenty of stuff to do, and citizenship isn’t hard to get. 🇬🇪 Georgia - absolutely wonderful people, wonderful culture, and a great atmosphere altogether. As well, really really cheap! The average wage there is just $400/month so you can bring American pensions or business income and live like a king. Hope you like my list!
@Jaden481086 жыл бұрын
LinguisRevolutioner: I do like your list. I lived in Greece (Thessaloniki) for 7 1/2 years. Despite its constant financial troubles it still remains one of the most beautiful countries in the world with an extremely low crime rate. Greeks tend to welcome foreigners. If you go off the mainland choosing to live on one of its thousands of islands then you'll discover the true meaning of paradise. Best to stay away from Athens unless you're going only to visit because there's so much to see. The author John Steinbeck mentioned in his book "Travels with Charlie" (his dog) that Greece was the absolute best country he ever visited due to its sheer beauty and people.

It sounds VERY EASY to "MOVE TO" the UK and Canada STAYING past 6 months in the UK sounds extremely hard. I forgot why Canada was hard to STAY in afterwards. Either way... this is not the easiest country's to become citizens for an American... just easiest to move to. I could MOVE TO Canada in 6 to 12 hours as long as I stayed in Central or Eastern Canada. That wold be EASY. To just MOVE there. Getting to stay is a different criteria not covered by the headline of this video.

Just be careful with Canada, I "had" an uncle and aunt that moved there. My aunt is fine, but when you look at their health care system there is a deception that the video does not discuss. Here in the States, if you have a problem and you have insurance, then you go to the doctor and they process you rather quickly so that they can actually help you, My uncle had one of the lethal forms of Skin cancers. By the time he went in and got into their processing line, and the time it took to go through their universal health care system, it took over 9 months to get into some of the testing equipment due to the "take your number and wait policy" his cancer went to late stage 4, and when they finally diagnosed the problem it was too late. He died less than 6 months after he was diagnosed, but was in the check up system to find out what was going on with the cancer for almost 2 years. Most doctors in the US who have heard the story and the time line say if he had gotten diagnosed faster by 2 years there were treatments to save him. So you take the chance on any social medicine as to weather or not your time will be nice to your diesase's progress.
@happycook67374 жыл бұрын
Same of NHS in UK. Socialized medicine is rationed care. Seems to work ok until you have a life threatening illness. I'd rather be in debt and survive an illness in USA than watch a loved one die which my friend is doing right now. Husband diagnosed with cancer while they lived overseas. They returned to UK. Took him 6 months to get into NHS bureaucracy to start treatment. He didn't get good treatment at least by standards of care in my country and now he is about to die. Hospice is involved. Dreadful and inexcusable.

Greetings from TEXAS! I have had the good fortune to travel and live in several U.S. states and abroad. I have traveled to many countries on every continent, except for Antarctica. I lived a number of years in both Panama and Germany. I liked both countries very much, but, in my opinion, Panama is much more affordable. It's quite expensive to live in Germany, unless you are earning a substantial amount in Euro. (There is the issue of conversion rates from dollars to Euro.) Panama, on the other hand, uses the U.S. dollar, which is referred to as the Balboa. I have also traveled throughout South America. I noticed that Uruguay wasn't mentioned....very European. On the African continent, South Africa is very nice....Dutch/British influence. In South Asia, if you want inexpensive and exotic, you may want to consider Nepal or India. A "thumbs up" to my "mates" in Australia and the "Kiwis" of New Zealand. All the best, y'all!!!

My wife and I began exploring retirement opportunities about two years ago, and we got it down to Belize and Costa Rica, with Belize probably going to be our choice. Point of fact, you can live comfortably in Belize City, on the coast, or Belmopan, in the interior, for round $18,000 to $20,000 annually. It is an English speaking nation, as it was formerly called British Honduras, and shares many of the customs of the USA. Food is terrific and the weather, while at times humid, is perfect. With all the instability in the Arabian Peninsula and Europe right now, I'd avoid that. Australia and New Zealand have recently enacted tougher standards to get in there to retire, making it a nuisance. However, they are very nice. Mexico, with cartel activity amping-up, isn't a choice. Malta is getting more expensive as they attempt to keep the population from growing. United kingdom is out of the question with financial instability rising due to EU departure - don't let anybody kid you on that. Thailand is nothing more than a den of thieves, drugs and prostitutes and the petty theft is nuts. If I wanted the "Canadian effect" I'd move to the UP of Michigan. Hope this helps.

As far as the UAE is concerned; you would receive more in the way of money there for doing a job than you would here in the USA, but there _is_ a reason for that. As the narrator stated, the UAE is one of the most expensive countries to live in. The high pay is to counteract the high cost of living there. So where you may get paid more, and everything's more expensive, you'll most likely just end up breaking even financially speaking.

If you are a citizen of the USA, there are very inexpensive places as long as you can deal with a more rural place outside of big cities. I have heard of people buying a 20-acre farm with house and barn, well and septic (plus the developed soil for growing food) for as little as US$20K in "fly over country". If you are willing to live in a movable "tiny home", there are thousands of places where you can buy inexpensive land, in jurisdictions that "look the other way". With a well, septic system, a small vegetable/fruit garden, and solar power, one could live quite comfortably on just social security income-- (the trick is to disconnect from "the grid"). If you are within 25 miles of a post office, you can get mail delivered to you.

Money wouldn't really the top factor for me in any international relocation. While I am by no means rich, I am also not going to move someplace less desirable in other aspects than where I am just for the sake of saving money. All things to consider: *English speaking countries, and/or with a decent percentage of people who speak English. That, and countries who's language would be relatively "easy" for me to gain a basic use of in a short time. *Yearly climate. I prefer milder climates. I like Spring & Fall in the Northeast of America. Tropical climates are great, but I prefer a bit of variation in whether during the year. *Crime Rate...We all want to be safe. Don't want to move someplace where robbing citizens, and especially tourists and retirees, is the main source employment for the country. *Cultural Attractions... Festivals, historic sites, restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping...etc *Stable political situation... Don't want to move somewhere I am consistently feeling like there will be a military overthrow at anytime. *Stable economy for the most part.... Doesn't have to be a Top 10 economy, but just so long as it's a relatively stable one. *Cost of Living... Purchasing or leasing a house, food...etc. Moderate costs. Not dirt cheap like South America, but also not expensive like New York and major European cities. *Racial Tolerance... Whether it's a country with a wide racial mix, or a narrow racial mix, I'd want it to be a country where MOST people are open-minded and accepting of all races. *Modernization and Infrastructure... Has at least a few fairly modern well developed small cities, roads, public transportation systems...etc. *Health Care System... Must be among the better health systems in the world.A nice cost-to-quality balance, but I don't mind paying more for top quality. I hadn't done any real research on it yet, but countries that interest me just off the top of my mind are... Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland Norway, England, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland. Maybe a place or two in South America to consider, though less likely..

When I was in the military I was stationed in Germany and loved everything about it!! If dreams came true Germany would be home, I have always regretted coming back to the states.

Prior military myself. I spent 13 yrs in Europe and 3 yrs in JA. Took my family everywhere I went with the exception of Italy. (In Italy I felt like a princess.) Loved those countries but USA will always be home. I will say that if your heart tells you to go back to Germany, then make every effort to get back there. You don't want to die with an unfulfilled dream of shoulda, coulda, woulda. The reason I joined was bc I was living in Greece and after two years it was time for me to get back to US. I fell in love with Greece, learning the language, the way of life, the culture. That was 40 yrs ago and I'm so glad I had the adventurous spirit to pursue that dream. I think you should too.

It's my way or the Highway 1968 Lol, Tipping my hat to your comment. So far the only thing I kept of the Mediterranean lifestyle was the cooking. One, unless you want to live in a slum you had better have A LOT OF MONEY. Crime is so very bad now because of the government (I am British!) letting in so many people. Keep in mind we had a lot of Pakistanians and Indians and now life has become one of the most difficult to live - one bedroom slum about $2,000 per month. House properties are now the highest in Europe and even moving out to the country unless you are very, very wealthy, don't even bother. I miss my home as it was years ago but you can never go back. When you walk down Oxford Street you play "hunt the original British people". Most Indians and Pakistanis are very nice. Take care. P.S. Thailand?? Everything you claimed is either incredibly dated, or just plain WRONG. Immigration Department and laws are hell-bent on keeping retirees at a minimum. You need to be 50 years old, report to them every 90 days, keep about $25kusd in a non-interest bearing account to qualify for a yearly permit to stay. They keep tightening the process yearly. Thailand wants so-called 'quality' tourists to bring $$, spend it, and go home. English teachers' pay is the lowest in the region, and an incredibly frustrating experience. Most other jobs obtained in Thailand will be of the 'White Monkey' variety, where you will be a token status symbol for a face-conscious Thai company, without much power or input within the company. I could go on, but I won't. Pay no attention to this nonsense is my best advice...
