Or Australia, where the election won't really change much, while the Polish one is very important to the stability of the coalition in Power, and internal power struggles of the main opposition parties. With even talks of disolving the sejm after the election and running a second general election.

this is a good point, but the president in Poland does not have enough power to make the elections for this position important. Whether the current parliamentary government will have a conflict with the president or not does not really change the political direction in the country.

Kinda weird you guys skipped Argentina. We have legislative elections in October 2025. Pretty important for Millei and La Libertad Avanza. They are not risking many seats and most likely will win a good chunk of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate, allowing him to make deeper reforms to the government and the country, or at least give the party a better chance at negociating those reforms with the opposition.

If Poland really has stronger army than France, that's bad - it means too much money is wasted on arnaments when it could be invested in people, innovation or economy - especially since PL has one of the most underfunded healthcare systems in EU (~6% of GDP compared to ~12% in case of France). A few more notes on the Romanian elections: It is questionable whether Lasconi would've won the second round. In fact, some recent polls suggest the opposite. Romania is a very religious and conservative country, and Georgescu, as extreme as he is, is still sympathetic to Romanians. Also, the rerun will have very different candidates. We don't know whether Georgescu will be allowed to run, since he declared 0 campaign funds, even though there have been millions of Euros spent on promoting him on Tiktok. There is a chance that he will be blocked from running, same as another far right candidate, Diana Sosoaca had her campaign suspended by the Romanian Constitutional Court prior to the November election. Finally, there are new pro-EU candidates that could actually threaten Lasconi, such as Nicusor Dan, who is the founder of USR (Lasconi's current party) and the mayor of Bucharest, as well as Crin Antonescu, who is supported by the largest parties in Romania (EDIT: CRIN ANTONESCU RECENTLY ANNOUNCED HIS WITHDRAWAL). Again, the whole thing is a shitshow, so by the time the elections arrive, possibly in March or April, everything I wrote here could very well be out of date. I just felt like it needed a bit more context.

(Not to mention the 40 years of North Korean tier communist regime) These clowns claim to be the continuation of the fascist movement from WW2, when in reality, the leaders of those movements would roll in their graves by seeing the kremlin-sponsored clownfest it has become.

I love how our politics in Japan is finally not being so boring. Maybe LDP screwing up multiple times is required to get something to change properly, because apparently LDP won't do shit unless their seat as a ruling party is endangered. Either Ishiba "pulls it off" or "f**ks it all up" and ruins everything. However, seeing Trump's victory and the fact that LDP still doesn't seem to care about the citizens' lives 2025 is going to result in LDP losing an another election with a chunk of seats lost... again.

Australia has a political apathy problem. A lot of people don’t care about the systems of governance which can have massive impacts on their livelihood. If Australia didn’t have compulsory voting, a majority of the country likely wouldn’t be aware of any major elections occurring. Or care enough to vote at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had one of the lowest voting turnouts in the west.

Nothing about presidential elections in Poland? Disappointing... Anyway, for that who are interested, at now we have six official candidates: a) Rafał Trzaskowski - mayor of Warsaw and deputy chairman of liberal-conservative Civic Platform party, b) Karol Nawrocki - president of Institute of National Rememberance, nonpartisan candidate supported by national-conservative Law and Justice party, c) Szymon Hołownia - speaker of Sejm (our lower house), one of the leaders of Christian democratic Third Way coalition, d) Sławomir Mentzen - MP and one of the leaders of far-right national-liberal Confederation party, e) Magdalena Biejat - deputy speaker of Senate, nonpartisan candidate supported by social democratic The Left coalition and also the 4th woman who will run for president in our history, f) Marek Jakubiak - MP and the leader of small national-conservative party called Federation for the Republic. By now the most popular candidates are Trzaskowski and Nawrocki. The elections will be held on May and on January 8th, we will know the exact date.

@aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghasvdghvsjh Tusk said in 2013 that he "feels a bit socialdemocratic". When asked to elaborate he talked about parents of handicapped children that cannot work and need the state's help. He said that's it has nothing to do with ideology but only with "ordinary human duty". This statement of Tusk was shocking for everybody as he was previously seen as promoting laissez-faire economics, limited government, tax cuts and so on. Trzaskowski is by all means in the Center of the political spectrum. He's economic policies are business-oriented. He supports tax cuts for the middle-class. He is sometimes perceived as 'left-leaning' because he supports gay-rights and legalising civil partnerships for LGBT people. As well as partially legalising abortion in some cases. In Western Europe that wouldn't even be considered an issue.

@@Red-Check-Mark Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw is the candidate of the KO, the biggest party in the ruling coalition run by PM Donald Tusk. He ran in 2020 and lost by a narrow margin with president Duda. He is a progressive-liberal (more than Tusk himself), pro-EU, pro-Ukraine. He supports same sex-marriages and abortion. Their economic policy is all over the place and difficult to label. His victory will give Tusk full power and ability to actually introduce some reforms. He's currently ahead in polls. Karol Nawrocki the head of National Rememberance Institution is the candidate of Law and Justice (PiS), former goverment (2015-2023) and the biggest opposition party in Poland. The same party as the current president Andrzej Duda. They're conservative, euro-sceptic, anti-illegal immigration (but issued hundreds of thousands of visas), pro-Ukraine. They have close relation with president Trump. PiS is economically left wing with emphasis on social justice and big projects like central airhub. He will likely face off Rafał Trzaskowski in the second round of the election. His victory would be a big blow for Tusk's goverment and would make life difficult for the current govt. Sławomir Mentzen, a private businessman and one of 3 leaders of Confederation party. He's a libertarian on economic spectrum and conservative on social issue. His party has been steadily growing in the last years but is still far away from competing with PiS and PO. Confederation is often labeled as "far right" by establishment, they're conservative, anti-EU, sceptic to helping Ukraine, anti-immigration. They have connections with AFD, Le Pen and Fidesz. Magdalena Biejat is the candidate of the New Left party. The New Left is a succesor to SLD, which was a succesor of PZPR, Polish Communist Party. But nowadays they're just a typical western left wing party. Their main priorities are "women's rights" like full access to abortion, same sex marriages and other LGBT postulates like easy transition for trans people, separating Church and the State, fight against global warming etc. They're pro-EU (they're the only country that openly postulates for European federation), pro-Ukraine. They're currently a part of Tusk's goverment. Szymon Hołownia is the leader of "Poland 2050" and already ran for president in 2020 taking 3rd place, behind president Duda and Rafał Trzaskowski. But right now it seems he has less support. He used to be a TV presenter but went into politics, as an economic liberal and centrist on social issue. His party is a part of the ruling coalition and he is the speaker of Polish Sejm. Disclaimer: In case of PiS and Confederation I labeled them as conservative. In Poland it basically means maintaining status quo with the Catholic Church playing a major role, marriage as a union between man and woman, limited access to abortion.

it's pretty much Law and Justice's untested candidate vs Civil Coalition's candidate (longstanding president of Warsaw). it's an important election because the ruling coalition (consisting of Civic Coalition and other parties) couldn't accomplish most of their promises with the presidency in the hands of Law and Justice. The president (currently Andrzej Duda from Law and Justice) has veto power he can use to block new laws as well as the ability to pardon anyone of crime (so the investigations into the corruption of Law and Justice party members will only matter if the president is not a member of that party). Essentially for the last 2 years the ruling coalition in Poland was not able to accomplish even the few policies they all agreed on. Now if they get a president, they could probably deliver on much more (if they will care to even do anything, both major parties seem to care more about money than the people)

@Red-Check-Mark Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw is the candidate of the KO, the biggest party in the ruling coalition run by PM Donald Tusk. Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, has just announced his resignation. He will continue to serve as Prime Minister until his replacement is found, which is expected to happen in March. Given Pierre Poilievre's popularity among Canadians, it's likely that he will secure a majority in the upcoming election, which I anticipate will occur as scheduled and not earlier. I don't believe the NDP will push for an earlier election, but that's just my opinion.

Some points worth noting. I feel like you brushed rather quickly over Australia. The next Australian Federal Election has to be held at the latest in May; It could have been called at any point from November. It is worth taking into account: The Greens Party and the Teal Independents as it's likely they'll be king makers in the election. Energy Generation is a key election issue in Aus at the moment. Not sure if you only focused on the $275 reduction for time constraints but there are more things then just that regarding policies and promises that are under a microscope and interest rates; cant forget that.

As an Australian, I think your explanation was a bit lacking. There are three points I take issue with: 1. While the LNP frequently mentions the promised cut to power prices, the electorate isn't really buying it. 2. The teal independents, which are fiscally conservative but socially progressive are set to probably be kingmakers this election. 3. A key issue in the coming election is nuclear power. The LNP has come out in strong support of it but all modeling (except LNP internal modelling) shows it makes zero economic sense in Australia.

@@blazoraptor3392 I'd be surprised if the Coalition actually followed through on building nuclear reactors, whenever they next win power. I assume it's just a cack-handed attempt at wedging Labor on cost-of-living. That said, they've historically supported other parts of the nuclear industry, e.g. uranium mining for export, and repeated attempts to establish sites for other countries' nuclear waste. They've just done so for reasons other than lowering Australia's greenhouse gas emissions. (Labor dropped their opposition to uranium mining in 1983, but the Coalition were still viewed as more amenable, e.g. the Jabiluka mine only went into development during the Howard government)

The SPD has no shot to surpass the AfD without a miracle happening. It is also very likely that the SPD will form a coalition with the CDU since their only other coalition partner (The Green Party) is extremely disliked by their voter base. So it's astronomically unlikely for the SPD to form the main opposition as states here.

It wouldn't be the first time for the AfD to be opposition leader(2:08), they were from 2017-2021, but it would be the first time for them to finish a federal election in second place.
