As an American, the news presented on TLDR (all of the channels) is substantially less biased than most news channels from the US. I stuck around and continue watching your videos because there's a lack of extreme rhetoric unless it is warranted, and that is normally tame without obviously insulting or praising. I appreciate all of the work the team does, and how you can openly accept and act upon the criticism of those with more keen eyes and ears than myself. On a side note, I didn't watch the podcast when the juggling comment was made, but that would be quite entertaining. That video my get a like ratio of 99.5%. LOL

yeah thats true, but their left wing bias is always there because they are European and Europeans are as a whole are further to the left than the US e.g., the EU has traditionally few right wing parties in power, they are "left" of our Democratic party
@effluxi9587
@effluxi9587 Ай бұрын
@@BooleanDevby world standards, it's not so much EU has no right as America has no left. The democrats are a center right "preserve the current status quo" party and the Republicans are nowadays a regressive, populist one. Part of why America is in such a sorry state as of late is because your two options are decidedly "keep everything the same" or "put things back to how they used to be, whether that's bad (usually is) or not. This also why it appears as though Europe is far left from an American perspective - American politics will only ever keep as is under the dems, or shift further right under the repubs - as it has been doing. Europe has a lot of genuine left wing parties with socialist policies and as a result a lot of popular left wing policies currently in effect - but they also have parties that nearly directly mirror America's - The UK's for example, being the conservatives to the Democrats and Reform to the Republicans. But it also has, Labour, Lib dems, and Greens to the left of them, and even some more local parties in the SNP and Plaid for Scotland and Wales respectively. Left wing policies are genuinely discussed and considered while in America, the senate would scoff at the idea because it syphons their power.

The criticism of being monotone should just be ignored, a newscaster is suppose to avoid being emotionally charged or using emotionally leading language. If you look back at the "golden age" of American journalism news presenters take incredible pains to maintain even cadence and a neutral tone. The news is suppose to give information not opinions, if you can want emotionally charged speech and language essentially every other news channel provides this service.

Personally, "The Rule of Three" seems performative, rather than explanative. I understand when naming more than three things, it can be overwhelming for some to digest. Now I'm in uni studying CS and gamedev and I don't have as much time to read stuff myself anymore so it's great to have something like this where I can catch up on recent events. Also since it is run by such young people it seems more friendly to me as a young person myself than relying on 200 year old mainstream media brands with huge biases, and the TLDR project as a whole kind of shows that young people aren't lazy and unproductive like our grandparents sometimes tell us :D

The issue with the sources, it's a matter of putting it in the video itself, a little notification when you bring it up reminding that the source is in the description, just a little thing on the corner saying "source in description: footnote X" a lot of people won't ever open the description unless they're prompted to because it's usually where the legal copypasta is and nobody wants to read that.

TLDR is doing a pretty good job. It is impossible for any channels covering current affairs worldwide to be 100% neutral. It's slightly left-leaning (as is generally the case for people in the journalism profession) but most of the time I find their episodes informative rather than skewing to a particular wing. TLDR is one of the most impartial news channels. I gave up on trying to get a balance with the Guardian and the Daily Mail, they were too extreme and omitted so many facts to pamper their readers with ill-informed perspectives, worse, deliberate omissions, and no critical thinking. But it’s good to raise the critics’ comments, but don’t bend to a view of people who love to complain. Their opinions are feelings and not always reasoned thoughts.

As someone on the Right of the political spectrum I can honestly say I have detected little, if any, bias on TLDR. It's the reason I use TLDR almost exclusively for geopolitical news. Perfectly unbiased content is probably unrealistic, but in a world where supposedly "high quality" news is increasingly little more than biased clickbait, TLDR is a breath of fresh air. Frankly you could teach the big media companies a thing or two about how to approach news with as little bias as possible. Keep up the good work. I think you are all doing an amazing job!

The pronunciation especially. I keep telling people it's not THAT important and the consistent responses were "if you cant say the word perfectly then just dont say the words" (good luck referring to foreign cities, foods etc without saying their names, then) and "well I speak the language that word is from so it matters a LOT" (despite the video being in English and being targeted at English speakers). If people were as militant with pronunciation with other news YT channels, they'd be breaking down the doors of every American that keeps saying the capital of Russia as Moss-cow 🐄

The reason you look left leaning is, that there is trend of looking at indiduals citing sources and working with sources as left wing, while right wingers do not care about citing that much (on the internet). It is concerning phenomenon on the internet for both left and right wing voters

I think my biggest issue with TLDR is the assumption that it’s possible to be impartial. The vast majority of the time, impartiality assumes the status quo, which means it isn’t impartial at all. Personally, I’d rather you just owned your biases. In your recent interview with Rachel Reeves, for example, there was no real challenge to her record or her ideological commitments, which is frankly not good enough for any journalist worth their salt. One of the basic functions of political journalism is holding those in power to account, and Reeves is very much in power. Her economic ideology is essentially the same as George Osborne’s, yet that went completely unaddressed. How can you ignore something so fundamental when interviewing someone in her position? This is exactly why the claim of impartiality is so frustrating-it often becomes a mask for reinforcing existing power structures. If you’re not questioning those structures, you’re not being impartial; you’re just being complicit.

Keep making these videos. They make you seem human, which you funnily are ;). Being able to see you argue, smile and laugh is refreshing and keeps TLDR on a different level/vibe. These kinds of videos will help you make others more understanding and remember to always stay true to yourself. Your commitment is very important, especially when the majority, in the western world, have lost their trust in big media/traditional media. Stay true, keep working and kudos to you💪💪

@RiverShock

One thing I will say about ads is that ad length DOES make a difference. The length of a video can be a rough indicator of how in-depth you go on a given topic. A much longer ad spot makes that a less accurate indicator. Granted, for someone like me who is going to watch them anyway, it doesn't matter THAT much. But it does feel a little bad when a video is shorter than expected because of an extra-long ad spot.

I want to say that TLDR is not really THAT biassed. Mostly the audience when reading the comments are overwhelmingly, but you at least try to not pander to them to much. It is really difficult to avoid audience capture - which is happening everywhere. TLDR at least tries and THAT is better than most others. As someone who is very far to the right on most issues, I still value your content a lot and appreciate the effort.

So here are the three main reasons I think TLDR is great: The first and most simple reason is that I like it, Secondly, I find they strike an amazing balance between humor and seriousness(specially in more recent videos the editors I think are doing great but the writers as well), and finally, They have achieved the best balanced between providing current and impartial reporting I have seen, while doing it for literally *FREE* (I will say I do wish more international voices from the global south could be brought in, specially for tldr global, but it makes sense why it is not the case. But it is something I would love to see in the future)
