Most "Lane Splitter's" I see are traveling more than 10mph faster that the other traffic = entirely too fast for anyone to see you coming or for you to see a turn signal IF they used it? I get pissed at biker's who accelerate so quickly not considering that a car/truck has no earthly idea just how fast you'll be at their vehicle? Ride defensively or die? Expect the unexpected because that exactly what you'll end up getting. Anyhoo, another great video ~ even 2 yrs after the fact !

7:45 you say that he assumed the BM is turning left... but he is indicating left. Both the road positioning and the signalling say he is going left, until he swings to the right. Yes, the rules are important and that’s important when dealing with the police, but at the end of the day it’s simply about not having any accidents at all. Those things will help raise your awareness levels and can make riding even more enjoyable. ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!! Hanging back 3 to 5 seconds even gets me enough "read ahead" to predict what the other vehicles are doing most of the time. Disgusted at atrocious driving habits and maneuvers, maybe... but not surprised. I don't understand all the impatience, anyways... Don't people ride motorcycles because they're fun anymore??? I agree with this as well, but I would like to say that just because he was impatient doesn't make it his fault, especially when the car is edging towards the side of the road with the indicator turned ON. It was just misjudgement in this case. A lot of riders would overtake just because they dont want to wait but this guy had vital information suggesting path of travel for the car infront of him. eg. indicator and lane positioning.

@@prodbydavis Agreed. You can see he makes the decision to pass when he sees the entire front of the car start shifting left with their turn signal on. The driver then immediately doubles back to the right and ends up hitting the rider. Most car drivers probably would have done the same thing as the rider did and the driver would have probably still have hit them as they weren't looking at or paying attention to their mirrors. You'll see it with people if you pay attention while riding as a passenger in a car. Most people that I've seen, barely use their mirrors if at all. There's no turning of the head or even the eyes. 3:12 it's not the grooves in the road, it's the wet tram tracks. That wet polished steel is like ice, and if you don't cross them at a well defined angle, then there is a very, VERY high possibility for a lowside. And it's almost guaranteed if you are putting ANY lean into it. We have them all across Melbourne (Aus), and they take out bikers all the time. Bicycle riders get taken out by them too, but more often than not it's because the whole wheel slips into the groove.

Street rail cars in the modern age are the dumbest things I've seen. We transitioned past them and left them behind in the pre-1940s for the most part and now many places are going back to them because it's apparently too difficult for bus drivers to drive properly along a route, we instead need a preset trolley where the operator only has to control a throttle and brake. It's a growing trend in the U.S. with some of the growing smaller cities installing them to be part of that retro "hipster" crowd.
@mikew3194
@mikew3194 2 жыл бұрын
@@Talishar It's cheaper than a diesel electric bus though, especially if the infrastructure is pre-existing, such as abandoned railroad lines. Not to mention it lessens traffic which is good for everyone in a lot of ways. Just don' be a dipshit when you cross tracks k hun? Engineering and economics don't care about what you consider hipster.

Besides, saudi arabia has light rail. Aren't you used to it??
@Talishar
@Talishar 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikew3194 Except in most cases, it's added on and not adapted for use. Also, the bus is much more flexible and has greater range of motion which gives it more coverage area. You'd decrease more traffic using buses, which is why we got rid of trolleys in most cities and transitioned to buses. These trolleys in the US usually aren't powered through the rails so they also have engines. This makes them MORE expensive than a bus as they're custom ordered due to tiny numbers. Engineers have already retired trolleys decades ago due to their limited use and the increased costs and complications in road maintenance. Hence the whole thing is just another inner city hipster push where city planners yet again ignored engineer input and just forced the issue to be more like LA and San Fran. Also, wtf would I care what a backwards ass country like Saudi Arabia is doing? That's just another strike against such infrastructure decisions.

I don’t even ride and I love your videos. 10 years ago I was rear ended at 45 mph by a drunk while I was on my motorized bicycle. I was riding home from work at night and I never saw the guy because he didn’t have his headlights on. I was very lucky that I didn’t break anything but I had huge bruises all over my legs, sacrum, lower back, and even some bruising of my spinal cord. I couldn’t walk for two weeks while I was waiting for the swelling to go down. Part of me wants to get on a bike again but there is always the hesitation. There really is nothing like feeling the wind on two wheels. Thanks for doing everything you can to help riders remain as safe as possible!

I took an AMA safety course when i was 20 before i had ever ridden a bike and the stuff they teach you in that controlled environment on a 250 that you can thrash was so instrumental in becoming a proficient alert Rider , it always alarms me when people panic break and just lock up the front 95/100 times if you lock that front wheel up you are going down . And also the amount of people who dont ride with a finger or two over the clutch are really putting themselves in a bad position if they need to brake quickly . Any one wanting to learn i suggest finding an AMA course (in america) and learning the skills that may one day save your bike or more importantly you yourself .

Protip: buses in my area (right-side driving) put their left indicator on when leaving the bus stop and never ever put them off until they indicate right for pulling over at the next stop. Lane changes, turns to the left or right, going straight, ... All moves and non moves done with the left indicator constantly on. And hundreds of car drivers and riders don't have the slightest clue about the proper way to use an indicator. Just ignore indicators and concentrate on what the vehicles and drivers are actually doing. It makes things much simpler. Indicators are just an indication, not a commitment.

50 is small as it will barely reach 30 mph. Smallest I would do is 125cc as it can comfortably do 45 mph yet is quite light and agile. Car went to inner lane and wanted to leave immediately -wrong. Biker goes to outer line and leaving 2nd exit-also wrong. And why an earth the car should have a turn signal on, it's a fucking roundabout
@Rflexion
@Rflexion 2 жыл бұрын
Supposedly, when you go into a roundabout, turning your right turn signals means you are exiting in the first exit and you usually remain on the outside lane. And in my country, a correct driver would use the left turn signal to indicate he will not exit the first exit and will go into the interior lane. Imagine you are going into a roundabout. To go to the inside lane, you have to go across the outside lane first, so you use left turn signal to change from the outside lane to the inside lane.
