One important fact to remember when using control + shift + v paste is that both the documents need to be of the exact same dimension. Or else the file you copied will end up in the centre of the document. This also works in illustrator between multiple artboards in the same document.

I'm proud to say I still make all of these mistakes on any given day....usually on Thursdays. Something I am still not good about is labeling layers. I think I'll remember but 40 layers later, or a month later, I don't. The great thing is that when they're labeled, you can right click with the Move Tool anywhere in the image and Photoshop shows you a list of every layer that is immediately underneath your pointer. Then when I see the layer I'm looking for, "Sailboat" for example, I can click on the name of the layer in the list, in this case "Sailboat" and Photoshop takes me right to the sailboat layer in the Layer Panel. If I haven't named the layers I'll see "Layer 16, Layer 16 Copy 1, Layer 16 Copy 2, Layer 19, etc" which is of no help at all. Also, I'm going to try using Pro Photo instead of Adobe RGB. I know it wasn't one of the tips in this video but you reminded me that it's there. Thanks for an important video again!

Great tips. Even more secure is to not just "Save" manually, but to "Save as..." periodically using a slightly different filename, usually by adding a version number. That way if the failure (e.g. Ps crash, power outage, ...) occurs during the save you are not at risk of losing the file altogether. You may loose this version, but the previous version is still on the disk untouched.

Unmesh, your videos are super useful. Always something to learn. How great or actually self-evident it would be if every layer instead of the relatively meaningless automatic labels, for example after a Command+Option+Shift +E - would contain a term ideally predetermined by me but at least something like 'COSE'. Or even after I have applied a filter to a layer, the name of the filter would be indexed For example, after a Liquify, Blur filter, Retoch4me in the label, if I haven't already written something in there myself, there would be a 'liq', a 'blu' or 'R4b' / 'R4d&b' in the label. Possibly numbered if a more complex image filter was used in several layers. (lq1, liq2, liq3) What would also seem helpful to me: If the labeling was kept generally simple you wouldn't have to poke around in the field to make it writable. One option could be that I can set PS to prompt me with a small window.

Thanks Unmesh. For Tip #1 - I select all layers and then right click and choose “flatten all layers” - this does the same thing as the Ctrl Alt Shift E - but you end up with a single merged layer which takes less storage than adding a merged duplicate layer using your approach
@Siansonea
@Siansonea 9 ай бұрын
If you do that, though, you lose the ability to modify any of the elements individually. If you're absolutely certain that you aren't going to want to do that, then flattening is fine, but it is a destructive process. The upshot of this entire video is "work nondestructively", so that you can always go back and change something if you need another version or you want to use one of the assets for something else, or even just match settings for an effect in another image. You never know when you'll say "I wish I saved a layered version of this image", so it's a good idea to ALWAYS save a layered version alongside a flattened composite.

Mistakes I've made: - Didn't use smart filters. - Used to think the "Auto" button on Camera Raw was a good option. - Always wrote something inside the prompt of Generative Fill when sometimes is better to leave it blank. - Use the Burn Tool and Smudge Tool instead of other way more effective editing tools. - Rely on Magic Wand Tool instead of other way more effective selection tools. - Didn't use Alt + Right mouse button + drag to change size and hardness of brush tools. - Didn't watch PiXimperfect videos.

Thanks for these useful tips. Regarding the Photoshop and not Beta point for daily work, it has bothered me for a long time that when an image is transferred from Lightroom to Photoshop, Beta always starts. I haven't yet found a way to change this. That's why I first save in Lightroom as a 16-bit TIF and then open it in Photoshop.

Excellent material, Unmesh. In my opinion, the biggest mistake beginners make is NOT working with a properly calibrated monitor. When this is the case, all the time spent working with images in Photoshop is essentially useless, because none of the colors are right no matter how hard they try to fix them. Imagine someone doing construction and using a tape measure where every foot marked on the tape measure was actually only 11.9 inches. How many of their construction projects would turn out correctly? None of them! 😢

About mistake 8. "Not Converting To Smart Objects" their is an issue with Hi Res images. I have a 50MP camera and the issue with photoshop is the .psd file size limit. After I edit everything I have to change almost all smart objects to rasterized layers because if I do not, the file size will exceed 2GB after 2 Smart Objects, even if I create a Smart Object within another (as you showed in an old video to reduce the amount of smart objects (the amount is reduced, but the file size does not change) then PS wants to save as .psb (Large Document Format). It's about time that Adobe adds compresion to .psd so that high megapixel cameras can save in psd with multiple smart objects. This is mainly true as data always goes up in size. Most likely by 2030 no camera file would be able to be saved as psd because of the file sizes. It's time Adobe started to work on this issue or psd file format will become obsolete in a few years.

Great video! Reminded me to set my autosave to 5 minutes instead of the default of 10. The mistake that I make is when I go to open a file in Photoshop by going to File < Open and I accidentally click "Browse in Bridge" -- an app that I don't use at all and don't have installed. But if you accidentally click on that option, Adobe installs the app automatically! I've done this at least half a dozen times in the past few years. Of course, the way around this is to use Ctrl (Command) + O for the keyboard shortcut to open a document. On another note, hey Adobe -- can you fix this??? At least prompt us to install instead of automatically installing Bridge.
