Hi Barry ... got an idea for a new video : if you needed medical care, where would you go and what could you expect for cost? Did you buy Health Care Insurance? What do you think about the hospitals there, etc ? Thank you so much .. .. ...
@vungtaurider28646 жыл бұрын
I haven't had to use the medical facilities here yet. But from what I've heard they are not too bad. Especially if you can afford the good ones. I don't have insurance here. Too expensive for my age. I just got back from the US and I had my yearly checkup there with my insurance I have in the US. If I do have to use the facilities I will try and do a video.

Hi Charlie, My name is Rick and I am living in Thailand and I have been coming to Vietnam for the last years. I usually spend a few months in Nha Trang but this year I was thinking about spending a few weeks in Vung Tau for the usual Songkran avoidance trip. I have a suggestion for a video or maybe it would be two videos and they are 1. a video showing the streets and locations of expat bars and restaurants. 2. A video on gyms or health clubs giving the map locations and some decsription of the facilities and as to whether or not they have air conditioning. OH well, If you don't get around to doin it I will be there for a few weeks in April and I will try and do it myself. Thanks, Rick

Rick my name is Barry. But that aside I really am not trying to do travel guide videos. I just make them about my everyday life with an occasional trip to a landmark that I would like to see. All those things you are looking for you can probably find online with pics and locations. I hope you have a nice trip here.

Hi Barry, I just happened to come to find your videos, and i have watched most of them (ok, some i did fast forward a little...) but you have inspired me to think that a retired but active lifestyle can be possible for not that much money in Asia, especially Vietnam. I really like your videos as they are laid back but relaxing and entertaining. Look forward to more videos from you. I have subscribed and hope to see the next new videos from you soon. Is video 13 the latest one? Hope you continue to have a happy life in Vung Tau.

Hi Mr. Rider, I have been enjoying your adventures and you have inspired me to take more videos in Vietnam. I have some but haven’t posted them on KZbin in the past. I did just post one of HCMC work traffic I took two years ago. The traffic gets worse every year. We will be back in Vietnam in the winter, we usually stay six months, I still have three years left on my five year visa and it was free. We may visit Vung Tau this winter and if you are still in town we should have lunch together. We have some things in common, I spent most of my live in California and I am just a few years younger than you. Keep up the good work.

So the weekends are really busy, but what days are off or not busy? Thanks much for the videos.
@vungtaurider28646 жыл бұрын
Only some of the weekends are busy. The holiday weekends usually. Some weekends are pretty quiet. The rest of the time it is quiet except some areas when school gets out or when people are going home from work. Only a few hours a day.

Hello, I have watched a few of your videos of Vung Tau and the city always seems as though the place is deserted. I am shocked at the lack of traffic. Is this normal for Vung Tau or I just happen to view when people are on holidays? I do enjoy your videos and making a decision on where to stay when I visit Vietnam
@vungtaurider28646 жыл бұрын
The only time we have bad traffic is on some weekends and holidays when the people from Saigon come up. It can be pretty chaotic then. Most of the time it is smooth sailing....

I would say yes. Contact Lynn Tranh at vungtauhousing.com. She is a sweetie, speaks good English and can answer your apartment questions.

went to Yung Tau in January 2018, is their many Russians in Yung Tau. Does it interfere with an American retiring in Yung Tau, when I was there I was not bothered at all. I was stationed in Yung Tau in 1967-68, It was the best thing that happened me.

Hey Dude, back after being ill. So this video the city is deserted is it like this all the time or just high noon ?. Do you get to interact with the locals or just bar people? What's the main work for the locals, you mentioned oil and gas so I guess a large expat community? Sorry for the questions but still interested in visiting or more maybe. cheers. Bloody cold and grey here on the south coast of England.

Barry, your videos are heaven sent as I have been planning an extended stay in Vietnam for some time but could not find a banking solution to fund my trip. That is the key missing puzzle for many of us. Opening a bank account on a long term visa in Thailand was a piece of cake. Could you comment on how you were able to open a bank account in Vietnam. Thanks! Chuck (Washington)
@vungtaurider28647 жыл бұрын
Hi Chuck. I'm glad you like the videos. I didn't open an account here. The way I do it is my pension is deposited to my US account and I transfer the balance to my credit card. Then once a month I western union myself however much cash I will need for the month. I then go to the bank and pick it up in local currency. Takes about 15 minutes. So then I have local cash and my credit card to get by on.

Vung Tau Rider I will keep that in mind and give it a try. Thanks! Really enjoy your videos.

Just subbed to your channel, it is exactly what I have been looking for. So many Thailand vlogs ,but hard to find good quality retirement videos on Vietnam. Was wondering about golf courses, fitness centres and if there are any Public swimming pools in area. I would find info like that very helpful. Anyway Thank you very much for taking the time to make these videos and post them online. Cheers
@vungtaurider28647 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing. There's a golf course but a bit pricy. I believe it is more than $100 US for a round. So even tho I love golf it is out of my budget. Lots of fitness centers. Stand alones and in the hotels. I don't know about public pools. All the hotels have them and I'm sure you could use one fairly cheaply. Some of the apartment buildings also have a pool. And of course you have the ocean..haha.
@hubbards7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. Think the Golf would be a little out of my price range too. Was thinking of Thailand ,but Vietnam is looking better all the time for retirement . Cheers

Hello Barry, I have been enjoying your videos and was wanting to move to where you are at in a couple of months. I get around $2400 per month in retirement income. Is that enough to live there and enjoy life?
@vungtaurider28647 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve. Glad you like the videos. Well I'm living here on less than that and I'm enjoying life.
@stevecosby60067 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. I am 69 and retired from the building trades. I have 3 grown kids and 6 grandkids who I see only twice a year so I thought that I could stay in VT for 6 months and fly back home to visit and renew my visa. So my monthly income would be enough then for a nice apt. food ,gas etc? I served in the Navy 1967-71 making 2 tours to vietnam but on air craft carriers, never boots on the ground. Perhaps we can do lunch when I get there.
@vungtaurider28647 жыл бұрын
Steve you could do fine on $2400. Consider the alternative. How well can you live in the states on that kind of money? That was my ultimate decider. Lunch would be cool.
@stevecosby60067 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply Barry. I am very excited about moving there. I have also started selling items on Amazon and making another $4,000 per month so I should be able to live very good. How is it there for dating? I am 69 and would like to meet someone around 45-60. Look forward to meeting you.
@vungtaurider28647 жыл бұрын
Steve with that kind of income you can have pretty much any age you want...haha. It can be kind of hard to meet women if you don't want a bar girl type. You can check out vietnam cupid dating site.
