Great for parking too. You never hit the wall of a garage because the hood ornament is always "X" distance from the very front of the bumper.
@benartee94933 жыл бұрын
The ornament might help to find it visually - but does the steering allow you to find it practically as well? 😜
@shartingfish57614 жыл бұрын
1:32 the reason the hood ornament moves like that if for federally mandated pedestrian safety.. it's so if you hit someone and the 2 tons of Lincoln doesn't kill them, the hood ornament doesn't pierce them. 2:20 the spare tire hump is literally called the continental kit. 6:30 not a tape deck it's a ford quadraphonic 8-track player.

Most of these aren't that quirky, but were pretty much standard in or available with everything. Standard features with most cars of that time were the cable attached hood ornament, sliding rear emblem to get to the trunk release, floor dimmer switch, headlight doors, and things that were optional were things like the CB and the mirror thermometer. None of these are particularly special, with the exception of the fibre optic turn signals.
@mfree802863 жыл бұрын
Lost the forest for the trees there... yes, it's got a quadraphonic 8 track player, but that's in a DIGITAL am/fm stereo. It's 1979. That's *extremely* high tech for the time. Maybe it was optional, but look around on the floor above the high beam switch and you might find another one. If it's there, it's a radio seek button. Also didn't mention the vacuum operated parking brake release. You take it out of park, and the brake releases. There's a little finger catch if that's not working (engine's off, etc.) The brake booster on these was hydraulic. Your power brakes are run from the power steering pump, which is why it groans if you press the brakes too hard.

Love the video definitely cool car! And one of my favorite cars from Lincoln! They had a lot of nice features,but Cadillac had plenty as well like automatic dimming headlights,power trunk pull down,auto leveling control,air suspension,power antenna,heated seats,and twilight sentinel which was some standard features dating back to 1950 such as the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado! Cadillac and Lincoln even had an available trip computer back in 1978 and the Seville for 1978 had an available digital display cluster on select models as well as electronic fuel injection!

The Mark V is a massive car with a massive story. Thanks for being so dedicated to these old Fords. It’s nice to be in great company. You’d be surprised to learn the side vents on the next generation were fake. I enjoyed your video and make some of my own with similar features. PS. Even my 8-Track radio actually works.

@Justin Henry you have to have the electronic tuner, not the analog radio.
@styldsteel14 жыл бұрын
@Justin Henry ok. Does it have a dial tuner where you have to manually turn a dial for your radio stations? Or does it have am orange colored digital display?
@styldsteel14 жыл бұрын
@Justin Henry Ok it sounds like it's the analog. Does your radio have the numbers right on the dial where you have to turn a knob to switch radio stations? Or do you see an orange colored segmented digital display, displaying the current radio stations or time?
@styldsteel14 жыл бұрын
@Justin Henry Analog. Ok the switch on the floor next to the high beam switch, when depressed changes the radio station and leaves that next available station play for ten seconds. Once you find a station you like, depress the switch again and it will stop scanning. The Analog radios do not have this function.
@donaldvincent4 жыл бұрын
Wow, we got to get you around some old cars (or old car guys). Those are called opera windows, not port holes. Lots of cars back then had them. My two door 78 Ford Grenada had them as did my 1976 two door Dodge Aspen Special Edition (really not very special) All Lincolns have the "Cornering Light" . It comes on to light the way when you turn. It is very helpful in parking lots. I have three of the last Lincoln Town Cars made and they all have it as well. Those are not pop up headlights, those are "pop up headlight doors" The headlights do not move. Corvette had "pop up headlights" All cars pre-late 80's had the high beam switch on the floor, they even used the same switch, Ford, GM, AMC, Chrysler. Nice and easy. Lastly, all pre-airbag cars had thin steering wheels.

you cant judge cars of that era using 2019 standards. this car was top of the line one of the best cars in America essentially a chick magnet, anybody that had one had to have big money. and thats what got the women. either you were a businessman or a pimp. everybody else drove Chevys or Pontiacs plymouths dodges.

in the 60s 70s and mid-80s high luxury was ford LTD, mercury marquises, Lincolns marks-town cars, Cadillacs eldorado's se Villes Fleetwood's sedan devils, Buick Electra Riveras la sabers, olds 98s delta 88, OldsToronado, Chryslers new yorkers-new ports Monaco cordoba, these were the cars only high rollers pimps or rich dreamers could afford. these cars were American cars at the top of their game the only thing middle and inner-city Americans respected in the south. foreign cars were for weird peoples with a strange taste. I'm 55 now I should know. I lived that era, as a young man and I lusted after cars like this, but neverbeing able to own one. till it was old.
@lukejayjackson92875 жыл бұрын
and the mid-size cars were even more sought after cars like ford thunderbirds, ford Torino's, Chevy Camaro, Pontiac firebirds, Monti Carlo, grand priest Buick reagles, olds cutlasses, chevy novas, Plymouth dusters, dodge chargers, these were sought after cars for the young teen and 20 something cars buyers, like I was.but luxury cars, were something special those cars let peoples know what kind of person you were and hoping to be.i feel for young kids nowadays you will never feel the same respect gratification about cars like my generation did we understood what a car was all about its power its value. the status it gave a young man or girl coming up in life.

Sadly the 79 didnt have the 460 7.5 litre V8 option. Which was a shame because while the 400 does get far better fuel efficiency, the extra power of the 460 was a nice perk to get the 2.5 tons of steel moving.

I used have a 76 Bonneville with a 400 Pontiac big block. I loved car as much as a man could before needing to see a therapist. But it was the only car I had at the time and I needed a way to get to work. And there was no way in hell I can drive that everyday to work. How is the gas mileage HAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA.. I mash the gas once (lies) and I watch the gas gauge needle move from half a tank to a quarter. Before I could let up and I spent 20 bucks a week just moving around the car. It was just like this two-door large. It was Museum like quality with power windows and powered seats. That car was huge I mean huge. Me and my cousin are 300 lb Plus 6 foot tall dudes we both fit in the trunk comfortably. I prefer to sleep on the bench seat of my car rather than my bed. Because there was more room and it was more comfortable. I was forced to sell it and I still miss it to this day. (Face of sadness as yesterday plays)

I don't know what you consider a quirk but CB radio is still used today. And also that car is badass come to think of it in 1979 it actually cost more than a Ferrari think about this you're talking about a 19th to $20,000 car in 1979 and a brand new Ferrari in 1985 was only 26,000. Maybe you weren't from that era and that's why you consider most of it being a quirk but I'm a lowrider myself and I think the car is badass. I recently picked up a mint condition a 1979 Lincoln Continental and it has all what you call a quirk even the CB radio still works and if you come to think about it the 8-track player that's in that car it is not the average 8-track player it is actually one that's higher end and plays the eight tracks that are recorded a certain way also for better fidelity and that little cork today on eBay is only $1,200 for half the equipment when it comes to the AM/FM 8-track and CB combo
