As someone in the camp of "Oh shit, yeah no, all of this makes sense", yep, I genuinely find myself saying "this game is so ***ing great" out loud every 5 seconds watching this video; whenever Allison makes excited confusion noises, watching the disjoint pieces of the puzzle get dropped on the table and knowing how cleanly the fit together. I recently finish 13 Sentinels myself and someone recommend your channel to me. I'm absolutely loving the commentary so far especially the angle of one who's played and one who hasn't yet both gel well. Cant wait for more 😊

Some combat tips: Use both joysticks for aiming. You can do setup movement with the left stick, but the right stick lets you rotate _on the spot_ without moving. Useful for running behind someone and getting a quick back attack for that sweet sweet 1.5x damage. Demolisher Blade is your very best friend in the same vein- so long as it kills. Remember, kills give you back EP. If you use Rush Attack to close in and do chip damage on a big dude, then use one Demolisher Blade to do most of the legwork and actually get the kill, you’ve got a net loss of like no EP at all. The first gen Sentinels are absolute MONSTERS. The Flare Torpedo’s big field is best shot preemptively, not _at_ any dudes. If you know someone’s going to eventually be in that spot, set it and forget it. Have fun, and end the kaiju.

Ironically it seems that UO was more popular than 13 Sentinels, at least in terms of sales numbers. It's a shame that 13 Sentinels went unnoticed by most people.

13 Sentinels had a marketing problem. And Unicorn Overlord is an easier sell overall, I'm playing it right now and having a blast with it, but it's an entire different beast. UO also didn't click for me the first time I tried playing (on release), I'm usually not a RTS fan (I'm bad at strategy in general, but when I play it I tend to prefer turn based). Now I tried again more willing to put up with the real time stuff ) for everything else I liked about the gameplay (the customizable tactics, the unit formations, the fact there's a ton of classes) and for those gorgeous Vanillaware visuals and, playing one or two stages a day, got used to how the game works and now can't put it down. Some longer stages are still mentally exhausting though.

Quick tip for the combat aiming: the different joysticks work differently. You can use the left to get your character close and then aim with the right, if its an attack they move with like rush attack. Took me forever to figure out but super useful.

35:16 I dunno. Maybe that black jumo suit Morimura wears is so skin tight that the AI that teleports the pilot into the sentinels can't tell the difference between her being naked and her wearing the thing.

Now if you want to ask why all the guys seem to have a communication camera that frames them from an angle that is mostly uniform and seems to frame the girls at angles I'd expect on the cover of sketchy swimsuit magazines....yeah, I got nothing. That's just the computer being sus.

So, current delinquent power rankins go something like: 1. Hijiyama (Military Training, so no surprise there) 2. Yuki (Implied she beat up Wajima and his whole crew, similar to Hijiyama) 3. Ogata (Wajima calls him out for fights, and him and Yuki seem to have a rivalry of sorts as well) 4. Wajima (Amateur Boxer) Honorary Mention: Amiguchi ("Gotta put on a show for Yuki-chan~") So far, even ignoring the other kids, our team is pretty fucking stacked if 3 of them can confidently beat a boxer, amateur or otherwise.😂

Also some combat tips in addition to what everyone else said: Look at the top of enemies' pictures for Ground/Flight types info (if you use attack that target specific enemy type and not both) and at the bottom for Normal/Armored info. Armored enemies ignore (most) part of the damage if you don't use Armor Piercing attacks (like G1 Sentinels' Demolisher Blade). Use Right stick for aiming while using melee (and some remote) attacks. Don't forget about Back 1.5x damage bonus when you attack, so focus on moving behind enemies. You can see the direction the opponent is facing by following the arrow in one of the parts of the circle below them. Also, if you want to attack specific enemy in the group use R/L for switching between targets.

(Spoilers) So, it only just now hit me, but the Year not being displayed during the battle segments is probably a thing meant to hint at how ultimately unimportant the Years themselves are, due to the nature of this game's "Time Travel".

Not at all, the simple explanation is the correct one here, if they did show the year it would reveal additional info that it’s more dramatic to reveal at a later point.
