The sheer number of songs released boggles the mind. All it took, was to cut a demo, make 50 copies, and drive around to the local radio stations and get a DJ to play it on the air during the evenings when kids were listening. Then wait and see what happens. No 'video' needed to release a song, like later after the MTV generation came about. By the 1990's, there were sometimes only 13 songs to reach #1 FOR A WHOLE YEAR. This doesn't mean those songs were so great, just that there simply weren't many good songs being released.

Many don't know them, because some people aren't exposed to them. When my 20-year-old nephew came to live with me (in 2008), he had never heard of Stairway to Heaven. He had heard of Led Zeppelin but couldn't name a single song of theirs.But he knew all of the pop muisic coming out at the time. I tried to educate him on some of the better Classic Rock & pop from the 60s through the 80s, but sadly, he wasn't too interested.
@joeterp561510 ай бұрын
@@screwyootube1 Sure, I understand that. But I consider “never heard” to be different than “forgotten.” I thought this video was going to dig deep and find some good old songs that faded away over the decades - including from airplay on oldies stations and classic rock stations. This could include songs that fans liked from the albums, but that for whatever reason never were big hits as singles (or maybe never even released as singles). I think we all can think of those kinds of songs. South City Midnight Lady from the Doobie Brothers pops into my mind as a song that I think could fit into this category. I’d be interested in a video like that, because I’ll admit I have a pretty shallow knowledge of music myself, mostly just knowing the biggest hits.

The Kinks had many other songs that were more "Awesome" than Shangri-La. Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Lola, A Well Respected Man, Sunny Afternoon, to name a few. As said earlier, the rest of these songs are hardly forgotten.

Don't forget Waterloo Sunset, All Day and All the Night, Dead End Street, You Really Got Me, Father Christmas, Celluloid Heroes, etc...

Great commentary, we all know the music and lyrics. The basis and work of the creators lend a validity to its message and sounds. Love it. Lived it.

I grew up in the 60s and I haven't forgotten any of these. they were all very popular songs, why would we forget them?

Wish they would have gotten into, more of the actual music portion of each song.

I'm born in 62 and I remember songs before I was born because I was the youngest and song up to the 80s/90s. I never forgot the music.

Unknown by current generations maybe, but none of those songs are forgotten by anyone who grew up with them..

Forgotten? Perhaps by some, but no one in my circle. But thanks for putting this out there - always a pleasure to revisit these and now I'm going to listen to them all complete!
