Now 16 at age 12/13 I was at the highest level. One of the best in my professional academy, training with my national side, had a trial with Manchester City and was just at the top of my game. At that time I tore my acl and was out for 2 years and let go by my club. Struggled for years getting to the level I am at now and was basically playing in the lowest u16s local amateur leagues. Was really upset and almost gave up comparing the level I use to be at (one of the best in Scotland) to the level I was at (playing for one of the worst u15/16s teams in my region) after hard work sacrifices and just belief now I have been offered several full D1 soccer scholarships in the USA, currently playing semi pro senior level at just 16, was invited back to trial with Manchester City, have an extremely good agent and got trials for my national side. Best advice I would give to anyone is don’t take anything for granted, just because your the best player in your academy or whatever doesn’t mean you will continue being the best in 3 years time. Make the most of every opportunity, don’t think “working hard” is just giving it your best in team training “hard work” is doing the extra things others don’t do. Just overall make the most of every second because even if it’s just an extra 1 hour training every day, after 5 years that all adds up! Make the most of every single second you have because you might just achieve your dream, if you make the most of every single day and get injured like I did or don’t make it you will look back with no regrets. There was nothing worse for me being out injured saying “I wish I done more” you don’t realise how great football is until you haven’t got it! Right now most of you guys have the opportunity to play so make the most of it! I am now seeing the benefits of my changed attitude and hard work. My injury really woke me up to work harder! Don’t wait until it’s over or you get injured to give it 100%. Start now. If you achieve your dreams or not you won’t regret not giving it your all!

1.Quality and quantity combined 2.The best player at 13 wont be the best when he grows up. Training and hard work helps to stay at the top. 3.Create workouts that you can stick to. The worst workout that you can stick to is better than the best workout you dont stick to 4.Dont lock to your position 5.Have other coaches, mentors, teammates giving you critique and feedback, because the coach hasnt got enough time for you 6. Study soccer games 7. Pros do the same drills, just with perfection 8.Games at 13 dont matter, mistakes and losses will be forgotten. Go out, try to do something new, dont take it so seriously.(Tell that to my coach lol). You should take seriously the development of yourself. 9.The pros went through the same struggles. Dont get too frustrated when you cant do something. 10. The best way to balance school and soccer is to always be busy. Once you have done everything, then its time to relax 11.There is no best way to train. Every training has different pros and cons. You need everything, because everything is needed for soccer. 12.Every single pro has faced many setbacks. When a setback happens, dont get emotional, just focus on your development. 13.Nobody really knows your true potential. Give it a like to help others.

The problem with playing in other positions is that the coaches have to let you. I always wanted to be a striker. But grew up in a local youthteam that only had 3 good players. Got stuck on the centre midfield forever. Now that i'm much older i enjoy that spot, but when i left that club i couldn't wait to play other positions.

When I was 11-12 I started of at defensive, then moved to mid, and eventually forward when I started getting better with hard work and my coach moved me around depending our strategies and players. I took like a two or 1 1/2 break from soccer and I’m finally getting back into it after seeing my friend play I’m just missing the feeling of touching the ball.

Matt you are an inspiration and I used to be a negative kid saying I can't do this I can't do that, but what matters is hanging on through those hard times and whatever comes your way you are always ready to improve. Your mental toughness is so huge and that's one of the best things I liked about you. When you got rejected or injured you kept training and recovering, you've doubted yourself, but never said its over, that's really inspirational and you reached me a lot Matt. Matt,I have a question.I hope you reply. I m 17 years old.Play travel soccer and go to the gym.but lately,i been very busy with school and havent been going to the gym,but i ll start getting back to it.but i still play soccer daily and train with my team 3 times a day.I also do some workout at home. Do you recommend me taking protein supplements(if yes,what s the best one I can get) or keep on getting natural protein?
@coachingwithtaublieb6 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc, I hope you don't mind if I try and answer your question. Matt and I played together at Sacramento Republic FC for a brief period. I could see your genuine curiosity in your comment and wanted to try and help. It is great that you are staying focused on school, and are still doing a workout at home and playing soccer all the time. Playing soccer is really the best way to improve your game. It is more important than the gym or even how you eat. However, to become a professional you do have to do your best in all areas. To answer your question after every gym works out and some soccer workouts I would recommend you take a protein drink. As you see in Matt's videos he takes a protein supplement from Vega sport which is a plant-based protein. This is much better for you over the long term than supplements lots of added chemicals that are not good for the body. Hope that helps! Zev

Matt, i’m 15 and i love the game and i play for my school’s varsity as a right defensive mid and a right wing. i haven’t been taking it too seriously but now i feel like it’s time for me to beginning serious training. how many hours should i train a day/week, and how can i train everything efficiently and equally? should i separate the areas into certain days (i.e. monday’s: touch, tuesday’s: agility etc.) last question, will an academy give me more experience than a highschool varsity team? my local Summerville Soccer club recently became part of the Charleston battery, basically making it the academy for the Battery? what should i choose?
@sasauge42306 жыл бұрын
To be honest you should train for 3 hours at most because injuries and wear and tear will take over (personal experience) and take 1 rest day a week Hope this helps P.S if you have any more questions feel free to ask

Hey Matt! I agree completely. There are going to be many hurdles during anyone’s soccer/futbol career. It is how they choose to respond to those setbacks that will determine the outcome. Also, if you just work hard every day and stick with your training plan there are no limits to how good you can become. Many players struggle with not knowing how to train on their own. But, with videos like these and on your channel you show how it can be done by giving players the knowledge of all the exercises that need to be practiced and perfected. Thanks for all you do! If any of you want to check out my new channel please do so! Give me some criticism because I am just starting out with video editing. I am Colorado based so if any of you want to train let me know!
