The healthy distraction is something anyone can do along with any job. Its good to work hard and focus to get better positions and knowledge. But very depressing when thats all your focusing on and things are taking longer for your goals.

Great video. Sadly at 16 which was 1988 for me, the idea of playing pro soccer was mostly unheard of unless you wanted to be an indoor player. And no American kids were being considered in Europe. So club/high school/college it was! I also remember playing U19 ODP for NY state in 1990 and we had a guest player from Ireland that was starting his freshman year at Fordham U in the Fall and he was here in the US on scholarship because he was cut by the Millwall academy. This kid was twice as good as any player on the NY state team at the time, so we all looked at each other and laughed at the idea of any of us going to England if he wasn't good enough. Times have changed! As Matt says, there are many, many paths today for a young talented player.

I was a sub-pro player until my 30ies, a sub-pro referee until 45, and a sub-pro youth coach, meaning I was always on the edge of a professional level, in which I could occasionally perform. My job was paid better than a low-level pro, so I did not have the motivation. I did not have the physical lack of injuries too, to train harder. I know pretty all aspects of the game, and the basics are very simple. Never loose the ball, and always gain possession of the ball. Too many young players do not care if they loose the ball. They tell me "It happens". I reply "Yes it happens, but you should be extremely angry with yourself when it happens", and gain it back as soon as it happens. This is basically what Arteta did with his players after their disastrous start in 2021 loosing the 1st three games with 0 goals scored. In these games the win/loss ratio of all players was a disaster. Too many players step into a duel without winning the ball. They tell me "It happens" I reply "Yes it happens, but you should be extremely angry with yourself when it happens" At the end of the day, the end of a session, the end a game, if you have not the mental to make the Win/Loss ratio extremely positive, forget to become a pro! I counted my losses/wins in my games. Bryan Robson and Genaro Gattuso were my role models. I needed at least a 90% wins for 10% losses. I always aimed at 0 losses. I played all defending back and midfield position. I was always in the first team, always playing the whole game, never substituted... unless injured. The coaches recognize the quality of a player who is a defending winner. The personality of those players shines : like Pogba, Kante, Joelinton. And least but not last Antonee Robinson, the worst technically skilled player in the PL, but what a fighter! A team only need 2-3 scorers. But 90% of young players want to be a scorer and do not care much about winning back the ball. A team needs 7-8 defenders. Statistically it is easier do become a pro as a skilled defender who does not loose possession of the ball once he has won it.

Great video ❤️🙏! Some Feedback: it would be highly useful to dive into what to do when you are just "good", and will only make it into paid higher amateur leagues or semi-pros. My kids have these decisions in front of them. They are really good, but not pro level good. Yet if you make it into mid level academies that will allow you to play in a typical league 4-5 in Europe (where the game is still quite good!), the effort to get there is still very high and it's super competitive (due to all the pro academy players that don't make it to pro level). Yet, and that's the key, you make almost no money, and your real career is definitely going to be in something else. Exploring how players in these mid level leagues made their decisions would be super interesting.. Do you sacrifice quite a lot to play on a semi high level (but with super low $), or do you focus on your real career and play in leagues 6-8 (and be the local star when you're actually a pretty good player), having fun with your friends in the local club. After all, if you're not a pro, it's a hobby. That might be an interesting video for many.

Yep absolutely great work man, I just want to know more about the mental/physiological part of the game on the pitch, I’ve already eliminated nearly all my bad habits off the field (still working on some) but on the pitch I can’t find the mindset that fits me best. Do I act as a leader being loud assertive and energetic or do I stay quiet and composed, do I act like Rinaldo or maradona dancing around with the ball at his feet. I’ve tried everything and I know I train hard enough yet still fail doing things in game I can do every time in training. Any thoughts on this haha Ps also bought your dribble workout payed off 😁

I'm 15 years old and currently not in any clubs, I try to train every day but since I can't play any matches/don't have a coach I don't really know what things to train on. All of the tryouts have passed on my local clubs and I don't really know what to do but just wait 1 year. (I still play soccer in my High School but the season doesn't start until the end of 2024). I also looked into summer camps but they seemed a little too expensive for me. I really want to improve my skills and have a dream that I would work non-stop for, but I just don't know how to, is there anything you recommend I should do?

Maybe someone in the comments can help me. I am 15 (playing U16) and playing for Soaring Capitals, a team out of New York, we just beat the #3 ranked team on GotSoccer, and are currently rank #4 in New York west on GotSoccer. I feel like playing for my current team and facing the level of competition we are facing won't be able to get me exposure to a high level of football. We won the throughway league, but I just hear so much about MLS next, ecnl etc. I am not able to play for a MLS next team because of the ubsurd cost, and travel times, because my parents both work full time jobs and cannot commit the time to it. I went to a University of Rhode Island ID camp, and was a average player there. Any advice?

Yo bro I'm in yr 11 finishing my gsces now and I have to tell you that the exams are not that deep and you don't need to revise as much. Depending on your target grades and how smart you are you can easily get all 9s by revising 2 hours a day from the start of year 11. I was stupid and started studying only 1 week before my gsces but I still managed to catch up with all the content and I can confidently say I surpassed all my target grades so you should have time to train. If you cut time on social media and games it will give you time to train plus it's now summer so the day will be long giving you more time to train, there's never a better time to start now.
