I absolutely love that you included outfit-repeating as an indicator of chic here. I know a few people will dismiss it with 'oh she's only saying that because she promotes slow fashion' but actually the chicness is in the self-awareness. A 'uniform' is an indicator of self-connection. Knowing yourself and being true to what you like is the kind of effortless, unapologeticness that I think we're all striving for...

It can also be an indicator of a lack of money, time/energy to get dressed in the morning, or lack of imagination. For most most of my adult life I've worn jeans, t-shirts and sneakers... because of those reasons I just mentioned. That being said, I know everyone isn't like me.

First, thank you for always being inclusive in your chosen models. It means more than you will ever know. Second, this is a fabulous list that's not super specific; it's more a feel or aura that makes someone chic. Third, I love vintage but have trouble finding it as a plus sized beauty. However, now that I'm in my 50s, I can find vintage in my own closet.

It’s chic that you recognize style and beauty at all ages without making it “a thing”. I have recently unsubscribed to another style KZbinr for constantly warning women over 50 to “be careful” in choosing certain trends or styles lest we look like we are trying too hard or worse, a “grandma”. Confidence and support for other women is truly chic.

Christina, thank you for being inclusive in so many ways! It seems to be such a widespread view that if you are past a certain age or a certain weight you might as well be dead 'cause there's no more hope for style for you! Love your videos and your style advice! 😊❤

@@6931Qwe 😊Yes, 💯%! Being chic does have a lot to do w/our attitude, acceptance, grace, & the state of our inner self as well as our being compassionate, confident, & uplifting toward others. 🤔People can look quite charming & attractive even when their personal style or body type is quite different than our own. I despair of those w/such narrow minded definitions of fashion & suitability. Those who cannot see beauty or chic beyond their own intellectual limitations. The various restrictions they start to impose on women as they age is frustrating indeed. Fashion & style is not a one size fits all proposition. All people come w/a certain style bias, but a gifted influencer will help unlock them & get each fan or follower to consider new approaches &/or applications. There is a myriad of body proportions, personality, values, experiences, instincts, & lifestyle issues that impact our preferences. Ultimately, it's key to ask if our style of dress actually communicates the message we wish to convey to others. A truly gifted influencer is not looking to create clones. Sharing what works for them personally does not mean they want to impose their own ideology on others. They are simply sharing the wisdom & knowledge that they've acquired to date in hopes it helps move others along their own style journey. Women can be particularly competitive & catty😼. Now that's not something I personally aspire to be w/my own gender. 🤓True analysis is a worthy thing. It's important to assess why a 📷Look works & why it does not. Ideally, this exercise is NOT meant to put others down in order to elevate ourselves. The purpose is to understand the very components of style. ⏳️As a voluptuous (not currently obese😬) hourglass, there simply aren't as many influencers or icons w/such extreme curvy proportions that I would wish to emulate. For me, it has been hard to strike a balance ⚖️ between modesty & flattering as well as masculinity & femininity☯️. The former of each category can easily take me into the 🤶frump zone😱. While the latter can lead me into💥va-va-voom💥 or ultra girlish👧 mode. No doubt, there are hordes of outdated fashion CUSTOMS〰️like the taboo of wearing 🤍white🤍 AFTER Labor Day. These traditions fully deserve to be routed out & cast aside. 👩‍🏫 Still, there are highly RESEARCHED & EFFECTIVE time honored VISUAL RULES from fashion to film (& everything in between in the Visual Arts) that have withstood the test of time. Diligent designers & clever costumers have always known visual tricks to enhance their elite clients or leads. It's also done to enrich their storytelling. Through the ages, they offered REAL solutions & work arounds to various proportion challenges that many of us routinely face. Frankly, I get highly ANNOYED by slick influencers who are quick to dismiss or disparage these great guidelines. They are quite welcome to ignore them at their own peril, but many of us need all the assistance we can get to look OUR personal best. 🪄Sometimes we all need to "fool the eye👁" in order to minimize some of our physical shortcomings, enhance some features, &/or cancel out our own quirky personal preferences. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

There are so many women who we see on the street or at work that are so chic and elegant, not necessarily because of what they wear but the way they carry themselves. I, personally, notice the attitude first, and the outfit comes second 😊

Most of my wardrobe is vintage or thrifted. I love finding unique or quirky pieces. Vintage clothing tends to be so much better quality and really lasts. I work in a professional setting and my suits, blouses & button ups are all thrifted or vintage. I think it is how you mix & match the pieces that makes them look fresh & modern.

I love a sharp cat-eye glasses frame. As a prescription-glasses girlie since elementary school, I learned by the time I was in my teens that I might as well have a cool frame if I had to wear glasses for the rest of my life! Fast-forward 20+ years, I have 3 pairs that I use as 'permanent accessory' and they are different colours with a nice cat-eye shape that I can use for contrast or harmony with my outfits 🥰

I agree that style is completely about attitude. That “I don’t know what” quality. The persons way of moving in the world with unforced, unpretentious confidence in themself, with their clothes merely being a supporting character. But aesthetically, “style” to me is… - Enviably “well worn but well maintained” pieces. That pricey bag that is clearly a trusty staple and has been loved for years, but not worn-out and uncared-for, and that clearly still does the job. - Shorter length nude nails, simple makeup, and easy hair that says, “I take care of myself but I am NOT a slave to my routine or the salon.” - A beautiful analog watch that says, “I am punctual, stylish, and refuse to let yet another screen into my life.” - Grey hair that is super healthy and styled beautifully. Embrace that elegant grey. - Fountain pens. So rare, but when someone pulls a fountain pen out of their handbag/briefcase, it’s instant style points. - A person who clearly understands (1) undertones and (2) colour theory. Monochrome outfits in the same undertone family just screams style. Same with any outfit that encorporates colour theory. - Beautifully bespectacled-both sunglasses and prescriptions. - Anything heirloom. Grandpa’s watch and scarf. Mom’s evening bag. A vintage blazer. A thrifted brooch. Anything that shows a deep connection to bygone quality is a win for style points. Thanks for sharing!

I've just started layering necklaces as I have quite a few silver ones. I keep all my basics as they will all come round again eventually. I've got a red long sleeved Tee from a charity shop and a few brown suede pieces from years ago that are now at the front of my wardrobe or shoe rack, ready to wear. Monochrome styling and using different accessories is a tip I've been using and loving for quite some time now, but I do feel like it can be fun sometimes to break familiarity by experimenting with different patterns or textures! I recently used some birthday money to get myself a wristlet that has a monogram pattern, which is something I've hesitated to dive into for many years because of me being more into quiet luxury. I'm honestly really excited to see how I can style it up with what's in my wardrobe! 😄

I've thrifted exclusively since 1980. The only garments I buy brand new are underware and socks. It's been a great, affordable way to learn what designers work for my body type. While #9 may look chic, I hate draping a jacket or coat over the sholders because it limits your movements, it's not practical. For that kind or look, I prefer a garment that's made to be draped, like a shawl or a cape.

I find the oversized structured items can drape quite nicely! The structure of the shoulders keeps it in place, but due to the larger size it still allows movement. I can't seem to figure out how to use cardigans, sweaters the same way without it looking too preppy.

The past two years I bought so much second hand, all my luxury handbags are vintages, and the quality of the hardware and leather were def better on the 90s than those days. I don't necessarily consider myself 'chic' but 2 things I've always been are bold and confident, and as a result I get compliments galore whether I'm a plus-sized college student with a pixie cut or a mid sized 40-something with waist length hair. I've never been afraid of color and diving into any look that feels "me"! Life's too short to choose boring glasses, bags, the most beige and bland wardrobe...

I love your videos! You gather a lot of good info and photos to demonstrate your points. One thing really stuck with me is your last point. I love ppl watching. It’s obvious to me seeing those who put thoughts into dressing. It doesn’t matter if they have style or not, just that they dress to present something they love or please someone they love. Getting dressed everyday isn’t mindless. There are ways to reduce planning and confusing. I think this is why many ppl stick to certain style or pieces. Over time it may become their signature. One lady in our chorus wears off shoulder tops 90% of the time. It became her. She looks great and loves the style. We love her for being stylish into her 70s.

I just bought a couple pairs of blingy ballet flats. I pair them with slightly flared ankle jeans, narrow straight jeans, trouser jeans. I can wear a cropped cotton tee or any sort of tops. I just love the juxtaposition of casual and bling. I also love wearing blingy jewelries with casual outfits. Wearing a hat or beanie is becoming my style signature in recent years. Wearing a headwear covers my messy hair so that I have one less thing to fuss with (styling my hair). I love your red lips idea. I have been wearing skin color lipstick for a year. Since I don’t usually make my eyes, wearing bold lips may make a good contrast.

This was such a great video and I think most of what you listed is also what I find really chic ☺️ linking with the concept of ease that you mentioned, if the clothes or shoes end up wearing you (rather than you wearing them) or you have to constantly fidget because something is too tight, too short or too uncomfortable or a heel is too high or unstable, then it looses a lot of chic points ... something I learnt from my dressmaker mum when I was always asking her to tighten or shorten clothes she'd make for me when she still sewed 😊

In reference to your point about jackets/blazers that are thrown over the shoulder: it feels very, "this is not the main attraction" while being very much an extra punch of attraction. It's almost like an updated version of a long cape the main character might wear right before they throw it off to reveal the "dress" or the "jewel" or even the "confidence." That's my interpretation of the jacket being thrown over the shoulder of the outfit.

Loved this video. I now work for Belgian company and it's a combination of blazers and trainers. All of your ideas were spot on.

Great video. You may have said this but I notice posture and the way someone walks. If they are not self conscious, it makes them seem effortless.

I am so happy to see big bags making a comeback. While I like a small bag for certain things, there are just times when a big bag is the best choice! I too love scarves and bag "bling" but I don't like it when people get too carried away and it takes away from the bag itself or just seems like they threw a bunch of junk on the bag because they thought it was the thing to do. To me, being chic is about being an individual and not being afraid to wear something that isn't on trend at the moment, but managing to pull it off combined with classic pieces.

If you wear glasses for vision correction, I highly recommend spending the extra $ to add the magnetic sunglasses option. Even with a transition lens. I decided to spend the money for them with my latest corrective, transition lenses - a great decision. There are little magnets inserted in my lenses and in the sunglasses. They just pop on.
