Hey guys! Don't forget to let me know here in the comments if you were making any of these mistakes :) When Ren (my husband) was editing the video, he said... "Hey I didn't know that!" He was talking about the way "ache" is pronounced... he's a native Spanish speaker, so he used to pronounce the word with a "ch" sound. Anyhow, I'd love to know if this video helped you improve any of these words :)
I was mispronouncing "muscle"! Thanks, you helped me so much!

Fantastic! I am Jazuli, an Indonesian, South East Asia. I've never been to English speaking country. I just learn English (hopefully standard English) from school. Anyhow, I got more serious problems when it comes to accuracy of how a word in English has to be pronounced. And the result was that my fluency was distracted, because I've got to think twice whether or not what I was saying was correct. My mouth muscle seems kinda hard and feels there is something holding it back from being fluent. Can you please give us a short video tips regarding this? Thank you. 😊😊😊

You did right keeping only the audio of your speaking. By doing that I was able to focus in your pronunciation, not being distracted with nothing else. Thank you for you beautiful job. Why do I understand what native English teachers say, but when it comes up to conversation in movies it's a little bit more complicated?
@TheEnglishCoach6 жыл бұрын
I should make a video about this... cause people ask me this question all the time :)
@dhiaoshaish6 жыл бұрын
The range of vocab in movies is larger than day to day life. In day to day life, or in an English class where a teacher tries to break it down to students, we use far less vocab than you would hear in an action, horror, or sci fi movie. Building your vocabulary slowly, and getting used to how some actors will twist their accent to fit better for a certain character will get you there. It will take time, dont get frustrated. I recommend using headphones and English subtitles while watching movies (do that for a few months or so, depending on how good your English is at the moment, and then drop the subtitles, then drop the headphones maybe, or not).

Hey, thanks for your video, but i think you prated on this topic, you could explain this subject in 10 minutes.
@leandro74916 жыл бұрын
The answer may be simple cause you are really familiar to class vocabulary, all the English teaching vocabulary is already absorbed by you, so in movies they are talking a different type of conversation , it could be anything, any topics , that makes it more difficult, my tip is you can focus in one topic , for example, crime, so you can read crime books , detective novels such as Comoran strike by Robert Galbraith which is awesome, kinda difficult but it's worth it
@kholdsun48664 жыл бұрын
I’ve been living in the USA for almost 5 years now, I read a lot but I still have a thick accent . I’ve noticed that your approach was what was missing coz I’ve been focusing more on the way the words are written then how the are actually pronounced. This audio was really helpful. Thank you

Hello Stef, I have a quick question for you : do most American people pronounce Wednesday (winsday) like you do, or is it a California thing? I am quite sure in British English, Wednesday is pronounced like "whensday". Thanks .
@TheEnglishCoach6 жыл бұрын
British English and American English are really different. Most Americans say Winsday... some might say Wensday.
@LtBighorn6 жыл бұрын
Here in northern California (San Francisco bay area), I've always heard people say "wensday" not "winsday". This is the first time I've heard someone say it's "winsday", but honestly the difference is subtle enough that I don't think most people would notice whichever way you said it. California is a big place (~800 miles from north to south) so some variation is to be expected.

Thanks Stephanie. The way you explained not only shows how English speakers speak words in daily life, but shows how we use the gluttural stop. In my native language (Portuguese) we insist on pronouncing most letters come up, so I used to struggle a lot mispronouncing words like these. Even though I mispronounced them at the beginning of my English learning, I liked it when I was corrected. That taught me a lot even being embarrassed during the process haha. As you said, English isn't phonetical. For curiosity, however, I've read some book about pronunciation rules and it gave me a great basis for pronouncing written words and spoken sounds. I know there are tons of words which are difficult to pronounce properly at first, but it's been worth reading about it. Anyway Stephanie, I enjoy a lot your work and I've learnt a lot with you. Keep it up.

Wow! I was searching for how to pronounce the word months correctly and easily for ages. I would always misprononce it like you showed. TH sound made it difficult for me. You just saved my life. Keep up these lessons.

I agree that audio classes should be like this one. I prefer listening to web radios so I don't get distracted about faces, things moving and mouth (yes, when I am watchin a video in English, I focus in the mouth so I can try to pronunciate words more correctly). Hope I wrote this right. Thank you for sharing all these interesting and important things :)

First of all, I want to start by saying that your English is beautiful! Your pronunciation is even better that some others native speakers and I can understand perfectly everything you say. The only word in the video I was struggling with was "MONTHS" I was used to try to pronounce the TH sound and the S together :).Thanks a lot for your tips. Keep it up!
