I love how many of these tunes have that Korg M1-ish slap synth bass. Whether it's amazing soundtracks like SNES Shadowrun or that awful James Bond Jr. tune, cheesy synth slap bass was the true workhorse of the 90s

No, man. The thing is, SNES soundchip by default sounds like it goes through water or some stuff like thay, most of its samples sound kinda hollow with some low frequencies. When a developer had no idea how to work with the SNES sound chip, everything sounds like it's under a rock (or a conjunction of farts that try to sound like music, as I'd like to call it), which is not only annoying to hear, but it's also sleep inducing. In no way that could be considered good.

Captain Novolin is the most pathetic superhero I've ever seen. He has no powers or special abilities, only the fact that he is handicapped by diabetes. Sure, Sportacus could only eat and live out healthy, but at least he's super active and puts a good example on healthy living. Also, he doesn't call himself a super hero, just a slightly above average hero. Captain Novolin fails at being a game as much as it fails at being a good source of education. And unfortunately, he's not the only failed mascot from the 4th generation to attempt at both those things only to screw up big time!

Dude, you must be sound designer or composer, because you really appreciate the sound as an element that drives action and emotion. As a sound designer myself (and music composer at some degree) I share 99% of your comments. Part of who I am and what I love comes from that fantastic music I used to listen while playing SNES titles and sounds. For example, I always loved that SF2: The World Warriors had a different intensity depending of the button you pressed while performing a special move. That super cool thing only can be found in that specific game and I don’t understand why CAPCOM never used again, but it definitely impacted my game experience and seeded on my the passion for sound.

The Drunk is back!! Dear god, this music... The paper boy song doesnt sound as bad as I expected and it actually reminds me of Animal Crossing music (specifically, New Leaf). I also played krusty's fun house as a kid, but didnt remember the ost being so annoying. Great to have you back, man!

Welcome back! I enjoyed this list but taken back by Paperboy 2 a bit. I always liked it. It kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld music interludes before scenes and the voices that make that "pop" noise.

Those couple weeks off did wonders for your comedy chops. That shit was funny as hell. I lost it at number 3 lmfao, that unhinged laughter...

"Someone get Dream Theater on the phone" is brilliant. I haven't thought about DT in 15 years and it comes back to you immediately.

Much like the SNES itself, your videos are a treasure to come back to after some time has passed. Without going off on a tangent, I feel that so many people miss the point of videogames today - especially the publishers who often dictate development now. People call it nostalgia, but as your videos suggest, we can articulate our findings having the perspective of playing both old and new games and there's a reason we keep coming back to the SNES era and the resurfacing of SNES-era indie games have become popular. Souls were invested in these games - a love for the product, a love for the playerbase; money was always a goal, sure... but it was naturally the byproduct of great quality when gamers were making games and the art didn't have to be sacrificed for quarterly earnings to rise.

For what it's worth, it's really great to see you posting again. And yeah, I agree: even though I never owned any of the other games (Thank God), I did at one point own Paperboy 2 and Ren & Stimpy: Veediots! The soundtracks were terrible, and I can't say much better for the games themselves.

One of the things that makes your videos endearing to me is the comparatives you make. Like, how you mentioned one of the songs made you feel like you were watching someone urinate on the Mona Lisa. Or even just when you spent the whole section of another song laughing. Keep up the great work!

Feel like War 2410 and War 3010 deserved dishonorable mentions for this one, but good god this music is brutal. Also, welcome back!

I actually really like the OST to Krusty. When I can't catch my rhythm back when jump roping, that song always comes to my head and it gets me right back to it.
