When a developer had no idea how to work with the SNES sound chip, everything sounds like it's under a rock (or a conjunction of farts that try to sound like music, as I'd like to call it), which is not only annoying to hear, but it's also sleep inducing. Captain Novolin is the most pathetic superhero I've ever seen. He has no powers or special abilities, only the fact that he is handicapped by diabetes. Sure, Sportacus could only eat and live out healthy, but at least he's super active and puts a good example on healthy living. Also, he doesn't call himself a super hero, just a slightly above average hero. Captain Novolin fails at being a game as much as it fails at being a good source of education. And unfortunately, he's not the only failed mascot from the 4th generation to attempt at both those things only to screw up big time!

Dude, you must be sound designer or composer, because you really appreciate the sound as an element that drives action and emotion. As a sound designer myself (and music composer at some degree) I share 99% of your comments. Part of who I am and what I love comes from that fantastic music I used to listen while playing SNES titles and sounds. For example, I always loved that SF2: The World Warriors had a different intensity depending of the button you pressed while performing a special move. That super cool thing only can be found in that specific game and I don’t understand why CAPCOM never used again, but it definitely impacted my game experience and seeded on my the passion for sound.

Much like the SNES itself, your videos are a treasure to come back to after some time has passed. Without going off on a tangent, I feel that so many people miss the point of videogames today - especially the publishers who often dictate development now. People call it nostalgia, but as your videos suggest, we can articulate our findings having the perspective of playing both old and new games and there's a reason we keep coming back to the SNES era and the resurfacing of SNES-era indie games have become popular. Souls were invested in these games - a love for the product, a love for the playerbase; money was always a goal, sure... but it was naturally the byproduct of great quality when gamers were making games and the art didn't have to be sacrificed for quarterly earnings to rise.
