I don't think you know anything about trucks. Everything you say about each truck is generic opinion. You say every one was bad because of the lack of an automatic transmission. No one had automatics in class 8 trucks in those years. Allisons were very expensive. You say cab overs are bad for maneuverability and then in 10 seconds later, you say cab overs are great for maneuverability. Which is it? Your video is just stealing pictures and you make generic comments about them, which are largely wrong. Is there any point? Or is it just filler hoping someone will click on them and generate ad revenue ? --Doozer

Well, that's not necessarily true, Detroit Diesel Allison offered an automatic for class 8 trucks,a good transmission, but not a cheap option.

By the way Doozer, you are right, this whole thing is a pack of inaccuracies,I don't remember any large trucks of those times being a smooth riding truck,,but most drove nice, the transmissions were not hard to drive once a driver got the hang of it,and even easier when you learn the art of floating gears, most were quite dependable, and the diesel engines were for the most part very good performers, and almost all truck makers offered Cummins, Detroits, Caterpillar engines, in addition to Mack, and Internationals offering the previous mentioned engines along with their own engines. They also offered the same transmission, and axles along with some of the same axles and other components.I think if one chooses to watch this,it would be better with the volume off.

@@patrickmcgoldrick8234 I don't think ANYONE ever ordered an Allison in the 70s or 80s in a class 8 truck. Maybe the Army, but probably no one else.

@@kooldoozer I worked Desert International in the mid seventies and the sold a few Transtar s that were ordered with Allison HT750s and Detroit 8 V 71s,and one of the sales man sold a few Fleet stars,withHT740s with hydraulic retarders, but you are right a lot of them ,in fact most of them were manuals, because the Automatics were still a pricey option, but in the mid seventies they sold a few to private companies.

The market for trucks was very competitive back in the seventies and eighties. Every manufacturer showcased different features to appeal to different requirements. Some were really good, but none were perfect. We have to keep in mind that the purpose of these trucks was heavy hauling. Driver comfort was a secondary consideration for certain manufacturers. In addition, looks didn't get the job done. Maintenance and reliability were additional factors.

The narrator is obviously not a driver or a mechanic, he must be reading somebody else's inaccurate and terrible research or lack thereof . The Dodge, White, GMC, Volvo were al cheaply made and were more of a large fleet vehicles . 3048 cubic inches? The guy doesn't know a 3408 is the model, not the c.i. , I never saw a 3408 in a snubnose White but maybe and from the dealership, most 3408 were 450 to 480 HP. All cabovers of that era are going to have a rougher ride, you're sitting right over the axle. First, I never saw an automatic trans. back then in anything other than a garbage packer, trucks like the White Road Xpediter. Mostly Allisons or SundStrand automatics. were used. If trucks had a power problem, it was because you ordered the wrong engine for the application of the truck. If you ordered a road truck with a DD318 to haul 100,000 lbs, it was going to be underpowered. The CL Ford could be got with a Cummins KT1150 cubic inch engine or 18.8 litres. The cab was, 4 corner airbags and was a little like being in a small boat. All drivers I interacted with liked the truck. It had all the problems that cabovers came with. The 4070A was a good truck but had pretty bad vibrations in the cab at Idle to 1300 RPM. The vibrations were so bad, you had to take it to 1300 RPM and above to look out of the sideview mirrors. In 1978 I crawled all over a new 4070A with a vibration meter to check this by the Cummins Engine Company. It was not the engine causing the vibrations, it was cab design. I was a truck mechanic in the 70s until switching to construction field mechanic in 1980.

Dude, I don’t think you even research this. Let’s pick the easy one K100. That was still is by far the most popular cab overs. You can no longer purchase one in the United States, but there are trucks like that still active in Australia that are brand new. It’s almost as if you didn’t do any research. Another thing automatic transmissions were not available in class eight trucks and it’s within the past 10 to 20 years that they’ve become available in class 8. I suggest you go in do research before you put out another video.
