Lucy is very talented. What she lost in sight she gained in musical talent. Fact is, her age alone makes this incredible. At 13 she’s playing as well as a seasoned, studied, skilled and visual concert pianist who has put in over 10,000 hours of practice and study. She’s not old enough to have put in the time. Then factor in she can’t see or read music to learn the song. Which is why this is incredible. Her blindness is secondary to her incredible ability.

I understand how she learns, as someone who can't read tabs or sheet music, I learned guitar by ear and feel the music. I can only imagine that feeling is magnified with the loss of another sense and there's no thinking getting in the way, no distractions, you just play and become part of the music, your fingers and the movements you make are almost involuntary. It's an incredible thing to have.

I learned the violin the same way. I fooled my teachers for years! I’m glad to see someone else get it. I tried to read music but it confused me so I learned by ear and I felt utterly free and felt like I was actually feeling the music the way it was intended. The pieces of paper just confined me!

@duskshadow259 ай бұрын
The end goal eventually for all pianist is not using any notes to begin with because that rather hinders your performance if you have to look at notes. Similar to taking a test, the whole purpose is to remember everything in your head and retain those information, instead of just looking at notes to cheat. Eventually you’ll reach a point where you can play just based on ears and hearing. There’s a technique that they teach for music major to learn that skill and it’s very important to be able to differentiate different notes based on hearing. That’s why for a musician their listening is very important. The end goal is being able to play a song based on hearing and replicate the exact notes because you understand what each notes sound like within a minute or two.
