In 1994, the U.S. adopted “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" (DADT), prohibiting lesbian, gay, and bisexual people from serving openly in the military. I was proud to vote to repeal DADT and stand beside President Obama when he signed it into law on December 22, 2010. The law was fully repealed on September 20, 2011 -- 13 years ago today. On the anniversary of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” we are reminded of how far we have come as we continue to fight for full equality under the law for LGBTQI+ people, our servicemembers, and their families.
