Luke, I just happened to look at your subscriber numbers and I have to say that it's really cool how far you've come. I started watching you around 2013/2014, around the time I started getting into backpacking. Now you're over 600k, and you still haven't taken sponsorships. I can't say that's rare because "rare" implies that it happens occassionally...and you're the only product reviewer of any kind that I've Ever seen that doesn't take anything from companies. Congrats on the well-deserved success and thanks for being entirely consistent for over a decade.

Hey Luke! Quick tip for using inflation bags. Instead of rolling all the way, just roll a couple of times to stop air from escaping, then wrap one arm around the bottom neck of the inflation bag like a head lock, and lift it off the ground slightly (so you aren't pushing directly into the ground). Then use the other hand to push the air down into the pad from the top! This will push through a large amount of air with minimal effort. Once you've pushed most of the air, unroll, reinflate and repeat. I've inflated pads very fast with this method, super convenient!

I bought this pad a few months ago and have used it 3 times in low temps ranging from 28* to 41* F in Washington State. I used it with a Zinbivy sheet and quilt, and I slept comfortably and warm all 3 nights inside the OneTigris Stella tent. I was a bit skeptical when it first arrived, because the pad seemed loud compared to others I’ve used, but this hasn’t been an issue for me. I think the Zinbivy sheet helps reduce the noise a lot. When I hold the pad up to light, I can see several shiny marks where it looks like the aluminum layers inside are showing through the nylon fabric. It’s hard to describe, but it looks like pieces of the aluminum have “rubbed off” onto the nylon from inside. These might be points where the aluminum is glued to the nylon to keep the internal layers in place, and I’m hoping it doesn’t indicate any potential problems. So far it’s been a great pad, and for $79 I think it’s a fantastic deal. All pads eventually fail, but I’m hoping to get many trips out of this. Also, I don’t like using the inflation bag at all. I plan on buying a small pump like the Flextail. Can you do a review on a few pumps, Luke?

The Sleeping bag material is 20D on both sides whereas the ground side of my XTherm is 70D. 70D vs 20D ground side is a deal breaker for me if I didn't already have the XTherm. The much lower price will attract a lot of buyers. Only time will tell if the OneTigris Sleeping bag is sufficiently resistant to leaks/punctures.

I have a Nemo and an Exped in the same denier 20D. I have only used them a few times, but as long as you take a bit of extra care with the pad, (no throwing it on sharp roots, rocks, and making sure you have taken off your pocketknife and put away your spork and not leave it in your pockets), I think it would be reasonably durable IN a tent. Also the face fabric here is nylon, so it is a bit tougher than a 20D polyester.

I have seen reviews of the Nemo pad you mentioned. It really would not compare to this pad for a couple of reasons. First , an 8.5 vs 5.4 R value is a HUGE difference between them, giving an unfair advantage to the Nemo Extreme. Second, the Nemo is WAYYyy lighter than the One Tigris, albeit Nemo achieves this low weight by making the pad Small. (19ish in wide vs 24 in for the One Tigris.) But on stats alone the Nemo wins hands down. Price difference is a Huge win for One Tigris though. So it really depends on use case, budget, and what you are, or are Not willing to carry.

Well, for $80 bucks I simply can't justify this purchase without the company stating on the product what it is exactly on said product. 'I have around 83 different sleeping pads and if it wasn't for each of them clearly stating on each individual one what it was (a sleeping pad), I would be completely incapable of distinguishing one from the other and this is totally and completely unacceptable. Luke, I've been watching your videos for years and have contributed to you, but this "they didn't put the name on the bag" gig is getting old. I noticed you were wearing a 5.11 and a Patagonia jacket while filming this video, did they also come with a bag that specifically states what goes in the bag? How about those pants your always wearing got a bag with them and a label stating "Bag, Pants, 1 Pair, Storage" tents, tarps, stove, lights, chairs. Again, I don't have 83 sleeping pads that I have to keep up with so the fact the company (full disclosure, I don't own any One Tigris products) doesn't label the bag specifically what goes in the bag isn't a biggie for me, Momma Winn raised her boys to figure some things out on their own, especially when it came in a bag already. Now that I think about it, I think I will start buying One Tigris products simply because I am big enough to figure out what came in what bag when I use it and that they don't mark them, seems like they're (One Tigris) trying to weed out the least common denominator in the outdoor world which to me is a good thing and kindly why I watch your videos to begin with, but it seems you're really worried about that least common denominator viewer a little more than I do. By the way how's your brother doing, and I hope all is well with your family. Many thanks, Steve.

So what is lighter the inflation bag or the 1.2oz air pump?
@harduphiker
@harduphiker 7 ай бұрын
That looks REALLY familiar. I suspect that might be rebadged Light Tour 5.8R that a lot of us have been using - and I reviewed on my channel? Or the Naturehike R5 one they've been touting. Looks like a way better pump bag though. BTW the moisture thing is a myth. Gear Skeptic did a long video about the science about how mould won't grow (no-one has proof of actual mould inside, the ones that have cut open their mats have found the spots are actually mylar flaking off) and how actually warm or moist air would help insulation, not hinder it. Or it condenses back to water, so doesn't bridge the air gap. Even freezing - which it won't for long as your body warms it up - I doubt it'd affect the insulation. In fact ice is also a surprisingly good insulator - it's how igloos work?

Interesting theory about blowing into mats. Makes me feel less guilty for topping off my mats on occasion with a few direct breaths !! The inflation bags were ripped off in design from Exped. Not sure about any comparison to the pad you mentioned, but I would not be surprised if One Tigris ripped off the mat design as well.

The only problem I have with this review is you haven’t used it to say it’s comparable to Thermarest insulated mats! No way you can know that unless it’s been on the frozen ground in a tent, so all this does is make me question the rest of your reviews. Also the title of the video says there’s a 130 dollar price difference but in the video you say it’s 190 dollars. Maybe you should go sleep on it on the cold ground first and remake the video and get the price right! It’s not like the video took that long to produce but maybe be a lot more objective about the new OneTigris insulated mat and not talk as if it actually is comparable to one you have already put to the test!

BE CAREFUL! This seems a rebranded version of the 1 year old Naturehike that I bought. My comment refers to the NH: True it's light, warm and very confortable. By far more comfy than Thermarest due to their design. There is no "bump effect" when you turn yourself during the night. However, I had to throw it away after not much as 10-20 nights as the valve stated to leak. Naturehike refuse to refund. I went to Thermarest and their valve that are way more robust.

At 9:10, when you say below 0, do you mean Fahrenheit or Celsius? On inflation, I usually kneel down, roll a bit to seal, then let my bodyweight gently press the air in, squeezing with my elbows from sides and gathering material as it empties. I also don't bother emptying the whole sack leaving maybe the last 20% as its harder to press. Saves quite a bit of grief, unless I want to train forearms haha. Cheers

In my experience pads with that type of valve develop valve leaks in about 9-12 months. I have had 3 pads with this valve system from as many companies at this price point and they all failed several months in, requiring 1-2 re-inflates to get through a single night. One pad wouldn't last 15 minutes.

The moisture that gets into a pad by blowing with your breath is negligible. A guy tested this using an inflation bag vs blowing and weighing a pad after and it was like a gram difference. A gram of moisture spread throughout the entire pad is meaningless. At worst any condensation will re-evaporate within minutes.

*Did you have an opportunity to inflate it a second time? If so, did it get any easier? Wondering if the first-time inflation effort was related to it being vacuum-packed at the factory and the internal TPU layers were sticking a bit to one another (Van der Waal's Force and all that).* *If it's that difficult to inflate, I'd be concerned a battery-powered inflator may be taxed to the point of burn out (unless they have an auto cut-off that I'm not aware of, never having used one myself).* *Look forward to your in-field review.*

No competition until now? Nemo Tensor Insulated, Nemo Tensor Alpine, the new Nemo Tensor All Season and Nemo Tensor Extreme, the Big Agnes Rapide SL, Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Xtreme, Exped Ultra 7R, and the new ZenBivy Ultralight Matress all would seem to generally qualify. Specs and prices of course vary on these pads, but all are generally in the range of 5 R value or higher and 2 lbs or less, and many of these can often be found on sale for a bit over $100. At a similar price range Gear Doctors has had a pad for several years now with an R-Value of 5.2 which currently sells for $85 and weighs 17 ounces. Don't get me wrong, I think this One Tigris pad looks very interesting at that price point, but it's incorrect to say there hasn't been any competition for the Thermarest XTherm.

The cot , table and chair have been out of stock for over a year. They either only have sprint runs or have no intention of keeping them in stock. This is never a consideration on your final review. Concerning weight limit , i feel like that is relative to how much air you inflate into it. For example if you dont put any air into it , I'm guessing it could hold infinite weight. Now , on the flipside , fully inflated I'm sure there's a limit. I'm guessing most people don't use a pad that way. Me personally, I inflate the thing to max , then lie down and use the valve to adjust the air out until I'm comfortable. But I'm thick , so maybe normal sized people sleep with it fully infiated .

Back in the 70"s we used 1/4 inch thick closed cell foam pads. I can't say that I ever suffered even at minus 20 F. Before the closed foam pad we had inflatables that were close to useless. Not bragging, just saying. We did not know any better. Closed cell foam was a big leap forward. Fast forward 50 years and we are back to inflatables that say they insolate.

Actually if it is that cold out, many backpackers Still use closed cell foam pads to augment the R-value of the inflatables (the inflatable pad’s cover fabric can get cold in extreme temps due to a principle called “cold soaking”.) Also just in case you Do get a leak overnight you don’t end up sleeping on the ground if you carry that backup foam pad, so the tech has changed, and yet still has not.

Ahh, the good old days. X-country skiing one time. (in the late 70's). Didn't make the alpine cabin. Never falling asleep, getting cold enough, to throw up. My buddies getting me out. Rather than going on. We had crap for gear. But that was normal.

P.S. Don’t get me wrong though, the inflatables Are warm now due to a variety of insulation materials put into them, such as down feathers, polyester batting, or mylar that is in this pad.

Seems like with the long spout on the inflation bag, you could just lay it down and push your knees on the bag to inflate rather than roll it up. That would be less of a workout.

That inflation bag with the straps does look like it was made to be a dry bag in a pinch.

I have a different brand that has the clips on the inflation bag and it doubles as a dry bag so id say it's the same with this one.

My guess is that the buckles on the inflation sack are so it can double as a dry bag.

I saw this the other day and thought you would review it. Seems like a good option so far. I use a tiny air pump with a light built in and love it.
