Morgan Yarbrough animal cruelty at an early age like that is a strong sign of how they’ll grow up. FreedomForever2010 I think he likes small things
@FreedomForever20106 жыл бұрын
@@HaliteHorizons most likely. Dogs can feel the same way about it as humans, which is in a basic strategic safety kind of way: "small X can be aggressive, but their maximum potential for damage is low if they are a threat, ergo there's just less to worry about with smaller X, even if larger X seems friendly enough." This is why (especially for adult males) when approaching new dogs body language is very important. Kneel down to look smaller, turn palms up in a nonthreatening way, no sudden movements, etc. Size can be intimidating just for its own sake and no other reason, so it is important to establish trust that even if you could hurt the dog you never would. In my experience with dogs, I have heard of those with, "male fear" but they don't show fear if you show them these things, and I conclude that the cause is actually "size fear;" if a large woman approached them without considering these aspects the dog would still show fear, but not for a male who recognizes this.
@iangoldsworthy20566 жыл бұрын
If you interact with your dog at there level i.e level eye contact they don't feel overpowered, That's why dogs love kids as the kids go down to them and don't feel threatened.
@FreedomForever20106 жыл бұрын
@@iangoldsworthy2056 funny story there's actually a St.B nearby me. I was out walking my little 40 lb McNab/Border Collie mix Zoot when we ran into each other. Zoot was terribly intimidated by the St.B, raised up her hackles, tried to puff herself up, while the St.B was not intimidated whatsoever he did really want to play and proceeded to try and follow all the rules I listed about trying to look small and non-threatening. Every time Zoot growled he just tried harder. Unfortunately she just wouldn't get over his size and relax, so I moved along. I just thought it was so funny to see the massive dog try his hardest to look small, while the small dog tried her hardest to look big. That was actually my first IRL encounter with a St.B, he was so patient and engaging with Zoot, it's a shame she wouldn't warm up to him, he really seemed like a Saint of a dog.

@@MichaelSmithAU what happened to it? My friend next door has 3 of them and they all have had seizures and things by like age 5, it’s terrible, but they are some of the best dogs. Is that genetic or just like due to their size? That’s what has always scared me about big dogs
@MichaelSmithAU3 жыл бұрын
@@Willyk200921 he lived a pretty normal life till about 12 from memory. I have heard of issues like what you describe which I also believe can happen more often through bad breeding (inbreeding, etc.). Not sure if this was the case with you neighbor's dogs or not. I'll be getting another Bernard (or two) in the near future for sure. Hopefully won't have those issues, but they are such great dogs I can't resist.
