Lovely project. The cast iron fireplace inserts are really unusual in their design. I have never seen that circular foliate design before. I look forward to watching the Reno. Best of luck.

Yes they are very unusual - I’ve looked around online and haven’t been able to find anything similar. Thank you

@@OurPastAu good morning. The style is more reminiscent of Nouveau, than Victorian. If you end up removing them for refurbishment, maybe there will be a makers mark. Still catching up on the vids.

Jacob, coming from someone who's restored two older houses completely by myself, I would consider starting and completely finishing one half before beginning the other. And take your time. This is going to be your future home so you want to make sure you give yourself the time and energy to do it correctly and to your liking. With some research and shopping around it doesn't take too long to find items that you'll need to fit with the time period of the house. Looking forward to follow up videos. Best of wishes to you and congrats on the new place.

Thanks so much for the advice Ronald. Once the general structural/plumbing/electrical work is complete I was planning on completing one side, moving in, then commencing work on the other. Glad to hear that's the best was to go. Once again I appreciate the advice.

Hay Jacob, I love old houses, they have so much character. I recently visited a guy who has a house in the southern suburbs of Sydney originally built by convicts and owned by the Gannon family. It was built in 1821. that's 200 years old! That's a lot of history. Anywway good luck with the reno and don't forget to ask lots of questions to anybody you think has the knowledge you need. Most of the time they will only be glad to help.

Thanks Mick, that sounds amazing. I'm certainly looking forward to it and I'm lucky to have a few contacts with plenty of knowledge in this area. Thanks again

I'm almost a year late to this party, but I'm so excited for you at this stage! What a gorgeous piece of Australian history you have. Thank goodness you're like me and want to see the duplex restored to it's original state, rather than a 'The Block' makeover (eye roll). Thanks for inviting us along on your renovation...I can't wait to binge watch the rest. All the best, Fiona (Brisbane)

Congratulations Jacob. Rim locks were quite common even in the fifties. The body was normally painted black. I really love the old fuel stoves. They add a lot of character. The place certainly has a lot of potential.I really hope you enjoy the project.

While clean white paint is nice, it needs to go! Bring back the beautiful old timbers and door locks where you can 😊
