Hey, I had my bilateral laparoscopic inguinal repair at 23y/o. I read that the pain is more common with younger men; it has been 3 years since my repair. The peak of my pain was this year, back in May. I am pretty good at managing pain, however, it got to the point where I could not sleep due to radiating pain in my lower left groin. I usually don't talk about the cause of my complications because it can be considered taboo. I usually talk about the effect -- which would be the pain. The pain flares with physical intimacy, once the area is agitated, it will feel like a sharp, then dull, burning, radiating, and stabbing pain in the lower left groin at the internal repair site. My pain has begun to subside as of this month, December 2023. I went 3 months with abstinence; this drastically helped me manage pain. As of late, I barely get pain from physical intimacy. During that time of abstinence, I did a lot of abdominal exercises (flutter kicks, sit-ups, etc.) and a lot of massaging and stretching. I would like to think this helped a lot. Maybe it loosened adhesions or freed the sperm cord or nerve from adhesions. I still get the occasional twinge, but nothing dramatic like before. I will post an update a month from now to let you know if it has gotten even better. I have empathy for everyone who experiences this pain; most people will never understand the feeling! To anyone who reads this, keep your head up and stay positive

@@abdullahmadanat6634 My advice for taking natural remedies before anything extreme was for those who have already gotten the surgery and are experiencing nerve pain. If you have a hernia and it needs to be repaired then you should see a professional. Try getting input from more than one doctor if you can. Lay off sexual activity for a while (this helped me with my pain).

I had a inguinal repair done by a military doctor over ten years ago and have suffered with testicular pain ever since. I have tried to have a nerve block twice with no success. At my whits end and I'm now medically retired from the military and feel like no one wants to help me figure this out. It has impacted my life in so many ways. To the point I'm scared of doing and preforming certain task of life.

My friend, I had bilateral inguinal hernia repair back in 2012 and I'm convinced I never had a hernia. I've had that same testicular pain since I got up off the surgery table. I've been to California in 2013, Florida in 2017 and just went to see a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic a couple weeks ago with no results, believe me I understand your pain and I know what you're going through brother. Like you said, you're afraid to do anything strenuous or if you're like me you'll end up in bed for a week or longer with ice packs. I've had numerous illioinguinal nerve blocks over the years at the pain clinic with absolutely no results. At the end of June I'm going to let them try and burn the nerve to see if that helps, the last doctor suggested having a neuroectomy but I think NOT!!! Good luck and Godspeed my friend. 🙏

I had a Inguinal hernia and a umbilical hernia done at the same time at the end of 2020. Ive been countless of doctors because of the pain im in. One testicle constantly stays swell the other epididymitis so they think, (ultra sound normal, urine sample good, never had problems before till the surgery) had a cord blocker done today. Still in pain in my abdomen and groin areas. Ive been in an out of doctors for the past three years, and had to recently quit my career job due to the pain, and am now out of insurance. Im only 36 with no children, and their answers are to amputate one testicle and remove the epididymis on the other. My life hasn't been the same since the surgery, if i set for to long or Even walk longer than 30 mins i swellore and hirt more... i am no longer able to lift or do things i once did since this surgery resulting in my job loss at the usps. Now my wife is pulling the weight while i lay around useless all the time from pain. Wish never got these surgeries.

I've experienced similar problems. Almost identical. I begged them to remove mine. I've even seriously contemplated getting liquored up and doing it myself just to make it stop. And yes I'm am serious. No help. Just excuses. Dull ache all the time increases to a throb seemingly having its own heartbeat. Pain radiating throughout my lower abdomen. To the point of wanting to puke sometimes. I work. I refuse to quit. I refuse let them take my life away from me. Had shots. Meds for 4 years. I am a heavy equipment mechanic and live in pain continuously now without meds. I have an incredible tolerance for pain. So I just live with it. One old man who is a urologist told me during my last ultrasound that I still have a hernia. Of course it was a myriad of excuses and symptoms. I finally got very angry with these doctors and their no accountability. I'm a very old school person and do not deal well with people who lie or hide things from me. I finally am once again on a quest to find out what's going on.

I had bilateral robotic mesh hernia surgery 2 years ago. A year later, it came back. Now, I just had bilateral open hernia surgery to repair it last week. I felt somewhat ok right after surgery but a week later, I'm in extreme pain now. All day long, it feels as if I was kicked in the testicle from under the incision to my testicles. I'm starting to get hard back pain now. It has been a horrible experience getting pain medication through my surgeon and from CVS. If the pain continues, I'll be going to the hospital. Thank you for this information. I felt truly lost, but at least this gives me an idea of what to tell my surgeon.

Sometimes I have little to no pain and then other times I can't stand the discomfort and go lay down (on my back) which helps. I'm 32 days post open inguinal hernia repair and still have intermittent (every 3rd day) right side pain along my Vas and testicle. The sharpest pain is where the Vas meets the testicle while the testicle itself is a dull pain. It doesn't radiate elsewhere. The pain surfaces the day after ejaculation or after slight physical strain/coughing/laughing. My surgeon dismisses it as post surgery scar tissue and general inflammation that will pass, but I think it's a blood vessel or nerve issue. Have you had such patients recover without intervention? I'm inclined to do a Pelvic MRI and scrotal ultrasound because it feels wrong (today had renewed numbness below the incision)

I had laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair (with a mesh) six (6) months [not days/weeks] ago and it has been horrible. My condition is actually worse than before the surgery. The mesh feels like a piece of sandpaper was surgically implanted inside of my body and the area where the hernia was a half year ago is still painful and swollen. My right testicle has been swollen and inflamed and is still approximately 100% larger than my left testicle. My condition is worse because of the pain and aching associated with my testicle being affected as opposed to just the less sensitive abdominal material that would occasionally protrude though my abdominal wall. My condition is affecting my activity level. I cannot walk for extended periods of time before the aching spreads to my lower belly area causing an upset stomach and ultimately headaches. I am dealing with chaffing because of the abnormal size of my right testicle. I can no longer complete a full yoga workout, ride a bike or jog/run and this has caused my physical condition to continually decline since the surgery. I have lost notable muscle mass, flexibility and my energy level is continually lessening. I have found that doctors are more than available to talk about performing surgery, but when it comes to complications secondary to surgery and/or potential medical malpractice necessitating restorative surgery, these same doctors hide in the shadows and are tight lipped about offering aid.

I HAVE seen a true hernia specialist at Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center in Roswell, Georgia USA (*name redacted, MD). My surgeon tried to claim that my symptoms (grossly enlarged testicle with radiating pain, aching and swelling) were, "not related to my surgery" despite the conditions being present immediately after waking up from my surgery. It is now more than 8 months since my surgery (May 25, 2023) and I still have the symptoms. I got a 2nd opinion from a urologist and was told I had the hernia repair caused a hydrocele (sack around my testicle [but under my scrotum] is filled with peritoneal fluid) which is a condition that will not go away on its own and I will now need a 2nd, more invasive surgery involving making an incision just below the belt line and dissecting down to the hole in the muscle layer. The hydrocele lining is then removed from the scrotum. I will not be able to work for 4 - 7 weeks after the procedure and will be left permanently scarred. If I do not have the surgery, I am at risk of developing another hernia on the opposite side and I have an increased risk of the hydrocele masking the presence of testicular cancer until the cancer becomes inoperable resulting in my death. @@herniadoc

Hello, I had an robotic inguinal hernia surgery mesh , 4/21 and have had testicular pain, loss of blood flow to penis, extreme size reduction of penis and right testicle (acts like a turtle head, now you seeit now you Don't)severe penis retraction, often hard to pee, usually feels like I have a UTI, always have gurgling at repair site, often a internal feeling of dripping water down my right thigh, very painful to stand upright to attention. I developed shingles May of 22, was sent to a urologist, ultra sound, CT scan, hydroceles on right testicle , was sick for 6-8 months. I'm still suffering from daily pain that shoots from repair site to the right testicle.Hurts standing up or laying down. My GP says I just have scar tissue and low testosterone. Have now 2/24 have Peyronie's. Have only had 3 erections since surgery 4/21. Age 51. Need help in Pennsylvania. As a side note, my surgeon saw me at 2 week post op (surgeon assistant), told me the pain and numbness would go away within a couple more weeks. The surgeon's office would take two - three weeks to return a reply to my inquiries about my pain.( the first one). The second inquiry was again replied to 3 weeks later. And then was told I had to go back to my GP for any other problems. And the wheels on the bus go round and round. P.S. I don't drink alcohol, Not on any medications or illicit drugs, don't smoke, don't eat beef, No dairy, No high fructose sugars. Try to stretch and do simple yoga, but usually hurts too much.

Hi Dr. I had laparoscopic left inguinal surgery repair done four weeks ago with mesh. The entire post surgery pain was immense, but improved a lot with pain killers about a week post op. The left testicle remains a cause of my concern over four weeks post op the pain is still lingering though less in intensity to 1/25/25. On my two weeks post op follow up visit, I told the surgeon about the pain and he told me that it can happen post op and it will get better. He asked me if I've had sex. I said no because it's painful and I had no erection since surgery. He suggested that I wear support and I did since then. The pain subsided somewhat, but still happening and my left testicles hurts a lot if pressed on. I also have numbing pain in my thigh, pins and needle pain in the groin back of my knee and calf. Ibuprofen helps somewhat, but never eradicate the pain which returns fully after a few hours. After calling and texting the surgeon to complain about the problems, he ordered a ultrasound of the scrotum, which I had done yesterday. The reading showed that I have varicocele in left testicle. Any suggestions on what next? Based on the ultrasound, the surgeon sounds happy that was the only thing I had going on post op. He hadn't seen me since the ultrasound , the report was emailed to him. I should mention that I also had umbilical hernia repair with mesh done at the same time. Other than some lingering aches in the area, the umbilical area seem to be recovering well thus far. I wish I had done more research before having this surgery, I would have found your channel then and asked more questions. I went into the procedure with trust of the surgeon because I worked with him for some years in the medical field.

Had a laparoscopic left hernia repair with mesh exactly 1 week ago. I know it’s super early in my recovery but overall I feel fairly well recovered besides the odd abdomen soreness when moving around etc. One thing that is really concerning me is this weird dull/achey pain in my left side of scrotum or near my left testicle. Once again I know it’s only been a week, but since I’ve been researching post op symptoms I came across chronic testicle pain now I feel I’ve become fixated on it haha. I hope it’s only temporary during my 4-6 week recovery and doesn’t stick around for longer than that. If anyone can relate or has an opinion please don’t hesitate to comment. Thank you

Hey man to be honest I think a few days after writing this comment my testicle discomfort nearly disappeared. Was a very odd dull achey pain but it was pretty much gone by day 8-9 post operation. At my 4 week follow up with my surgeon he mentioned that they needed to remove a lipoma from a nerve that ran down to my scrotum, the nerve took a beating during the lipoma removal so it was sore and tender = severe ball pain for a few days. But after that, just like any bruising or injury, the human body is unbelievable in its ability to fix itself. If anyone reading this has doubts just remember everything gets better in time, if it doesn’t then of course there’s an issue that you need to get your surgeon to address.

Hi Dr, how do I start loading the core to get back to advanced training? I had umbilical and epigastric hernia repair, as well as diastasis recti up the midline surgery 5 days ago with subcutaneous onlay laparoscopically. The pain at this point is still very intense, like hot knives in my belly button. I have a drain in for a week and a binder to support me. I have a background of calisthenics, running, yoga and gymnastics and really want to get back to this. I'd lost a lost of strength and muscle weight prior to the surgery, after a gnarly post op infection from my wisdom tooth extraction surgery, so feel like i've got a long road ahead. Want to get strong again but not overdo it and bust something. Any suggestions on what to do when would be welcome. I'm trying to seek out some local physiotherapist support for my rehab. There is such varied advice out there, and I had very minimal guidance from the surgeon. Basically just, you should be fine to do most stuff after a few weeks. Not great advice for me as I'd be back to busting out gymnastics rings pull ups lol Cheers

No one is listening because then that would cut off the patient(money) supply to lines of medical fields and treatments after surgeries, i.e. urologist, pain management doctors, therapist, MRI scans etc... Sadly, in many cases and for many, medicine is a huge business, but only if you have patients. A mesh like your design would have probably saved me from the pain am suffering now after my surgeries. I had three hernia surgeries. Umbilical, and double inguinal. Open surgery with mesh. They were done two months apart. Now, 9 months later I still suffer from sharp stabbing umbilical pain, burning, stabbing, stinging inguinal surgery area pain and testicular pain among other pain not there prior to surgery. Unfortunately, done by a doctor who only does worker's comp surgeries (mine was work related). He had patients lined up for surgery at the surgery center as he pumped out a patient every 30 minutes or so, like a farm or factory.

When I feel pain on lower back then I dont feel pain in right testical and the same when I feel in right testical then not in lower back. It depends on positions in movement during the day. I had bilateral robotic hernia surgery about eight weeks ago. Had some testicular pain for about three weeks. My surgeon suggested that I wear a athletic supporter (without the cup). It was a immediate game changer. Pain was reduced in just a few hours. I wore the support (bought three of them) continuously for about three weeks. After that time I had no more pain. At four weeks post surgery I started playing golf again, had some initial tightness feeling that is totally gone now. My opinion is that the supporter was instrumental in my recovery.
