I'm getting the feel that they want us to play smaller in Project Caesar. I'm sure some countries will have a lot of advantages to form empires, but from these and culture-conversion, religious stuff, migration, it seems that those "All europe by 1550" playthrough are going to be a real challenge or not feasible at all. I like it. I feel that EU IV kind of trails off around 1650 and a lot of content is missed just because there's no more challenge after that time.

According to data, as of 2020 there is only 1.3 million speakers of Irish languages today. The vast majority of those are people who picked it up as a secondary language. Estimates of the ones who speak it as a primary language is as low as 70,000 people in the world.

The near-death of the Irish language wouldn't come until roughly the end-date for EU5 Ludi, the creation of the Statutes of Kilkenny (themselves a fascinating glimpse into the Anglo-Norman 'creole' of the time) suggest that Crown-aligned lords were fighting an uphill battle in enforcing/elevating English language/culture in their regions.

Hen Ogledd is 'The Old North' referring to the parts of north west England and south west scotland that were inhabited by Brythonnic speaking peoples up until the middle ages. They arranged themselves into various kingdoms like Elmet and Rheged. You can play as the old north in CK3 as the Kingdom of Strathclyde.

Talking of impassable areas, far more coul'd be made of the fenlands around Eastern England and Somerset as these were almost but not quite impassable and historically significant. King Alfred used them to his advantage to prevent Danes from taking over the whole country, King John came to grief in the and many placenames reference islands such as the Isle of Ely the Isle of Axholme or anywhere with a name ended 'ey' such as Athelney. These places were almost literally islands before the fens were drained. The Pennines probably didn't pose much of an impediment to troop movements, the moors are less fertile than the valleys and less populated but far from impassable apart from maybe the very north near Carlisle where there would have been a lack of routes.

Recommendation: Reworking the locations within Kent. Chatham is fine and can stay as is. Makes huge historical sense due to the heavy Royal Navy presence there during the timeframe. However the location of Canterbury does not contain the city of Canterbury. I would therefore use the existing Kent boroughs to redraw the location borders within Kent as follows: Canterbury location contains the current boroughs of Canterbury and Thanet. Dover location containing the boroughs of Dover and the Eastern half of Shepway. Ashford Location containing the boroughs of Ashford and the Western half of Shepway. Maidstone location containing the boroughs of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. This expands Kent to 5 locations which as a local in my opinion better represents the county and it’s historical locations. I would them all Farmlands with the possible exception of Ashford which could be Marsh due to the presence of the Romney Marsh in the location. Resource wise I would do: Marble in Canterbury. Fish in Dover. Livestock in Ashford. Stone in Maidstone. Wheat in Chatham.

I chuckled a little on the political map when I saw you can play as the tribe of Mayo. Reminds me of the Petty Kingdom of Mumu from CK2. I just find those names amusing. As for the mountains in GB, while I don't live there I do know they are not all that tall. My home city of Albuquerque sits at a higher elevation than all of the British Isles, around 5,000ft, and the peak of the Sandia mountains next to the city is a little under 10,700ft tall.
@diazinth
@diazinth 6 күн бұрын
height isn't all that matters, as an example, there are no Norwegian mountains that are taller than 2500m. The problem is that they are everywhere, and often go all the way down to the sea, or meet the next mountain at the bottom of a deep valley, and most are quite steep. Basically the question isn't how tall a mountain is, but how much of a logistical challenge it is. :)

The population of England seems too large, especially considering the big discrepancy, between France and England at the time and comparing this with the earlier tinto map of France. This also played a really big part in the 100 years war, for example the army sizes at Agincourt. The English monarchy had much more centralized system allowing them to draw upon more men despite their smaller population. If possible i'd like this to be better represented somehow.

Saying Wales wasn’t formerly annexed by England until the 1500s is completely wrong. The 1536 act of union was simply an integration of Wales into the English legal system not an act of annexation. This was to reduce the autonomy of the Welsh region and tie it ever closer to England (thus increasing the power of Henry VIII). Wales at this point was just another part of the Kingdom of England not some separate entity finally being incorporated into the Kingdom proper. Conflating an act of centralisation with one of annexation is a complete fallacy in this context and its s really concerning that such a large historical error has been made.

When he mentions the religious map mode as not being fully Catholic “for long” is due to the Lollard heresy inspired by English theologian John Wycliffe

9:59 it's called "Irish" in English or "Gaeilge" in Irish A good few people (though not the majority) are fluent from school but far fewer Irish people are native speakers.

If the Isle of man becomes independent it should change name to Ellan Vannin as it was known in Manx, the common name Isle of Mann is derrived from the Celtic sea god Manannan Mac Lir

I think the hay color eu4 uses to represent farmland regions would probably look better/more distinct than this strong green

Most people outside of Dublin speak some Gaelige. Many people are fluent and for some it's a first language. It was banned by Cromwell IIRC. Quite a few hundred years after the start. The pronunciation of the language, Gaelige, sounds something like Galwah. I have heard different people have slightly different pronunciations but that's the closest my foreign mind can get to imitating what they're saying.

Munster is the anglicisation of Mumha, so there wouldn't be an etymological connection (unless whoever was anglicising it decided to connect the names for fun).
