I was there in Las Vegas in 2004 to see John Hackleman receive the Kajukenbo award on Professor Godin’s behalf. It was great cruising around with Hackleman in Las Vegas and participating in his portion of the Kajukenbo seminar. His style fighting is designed to inflict damage on human body and wear an opponent out. David Tavares is also a solid guy! Much love and respect to all!!!

I remember doing his version of kempo in queens ny back in the 90’s it was by a brother and sister who taught it in middle village ny, I did it for 6 months and then had to stop for school when I went back a year later the school was gone, I just remember how impressed I was by the method and really liked it. I can’t remember their names I just remember they were asian I believe from Hawaii. I always wondered what happened to them.

Well it evolved into Hawaiian Kempo. His student John Hackleman is now a UFC coach and Chuck Lidell and Glover Texeria are his black belts.

@@socialgelo7719 I’m familiar with the Pit always wished to train in it, but I remember this sister and brother who told me that it was Chinese kempo I think and it created by a man named Walter Godin in Hawaii, so I always remembered his name. Again this was late 90’s queens ny.

I joined Godin's Kula Ona Kupale School of Self-Defense in September 1980. Some of my instructors and fellow students were Jonathan Vance and Billy Takeuchi. I'm puzzled why Martin Buell is not mentioned this conversation. I was a student there during the time Martin Buell was managing the School while Professor Godin was incarcerated. I was a house guest of Martin Buell three summers and sat with and ate (and drank, haha) with Vance and Takeuchi, who considered Buell their teacher.

The main goal was to cover what Godin was doing when he left Kajukenbo and how his lineage came back. If any names weren't mentioned it wasn't intentional. It's not easy trying telling a person's life story in under 30 minutes. Thanks for sharing that history here and for checking out the show.

Bro I forgot to mention Professor Godin had one more full contact fighter that came from the same training place at 404 Piikoi branch with Hackleman he was a flyweight boxer/Kempo fighter Anacito Vargas. At one time he was rated in the top 10 In Ring Magazine worlds rating. Aloha.

Halbuna has *standings*, reyes did *abc*, ramos has *concentrations*, and gaylord had his four Katas! I wonder if Godin did any of the above.

@@socialgelo7719 Im such a fan of kaju/kenpo history, good work ! and if you can have more peoples talking about Karazenpo branch it would be awesome
@jm75787 ай бұрын
The forms are different because they were based on self-defense moves from their own expression. I am a black belt under Senior Grand Master George Pesare, he himself created the fifth, sixth, and seventh Pinan. The original Karazenpo under Sonny Gascon only had 4 Pinans. I personally asked SGM Pesare if he was under and of the Kajukenbo lineage, he gave me the most serious look and said yes I am Kajukenbo. Anybody who trained in his school exactly tough and grueling training was.
