A special treat for MoPar gurus, this fantastic Chrysler New Yorker Brougham is an extremely well preserved survivor that's driven only 37,019 miles in roughly 40 years!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Mid '70s metal features some of the most ornate styling from the Malaise Era. And this sedan's classy Black-on-Dark Red color combination is the perfect canvas for far-flung detail. In fact, the car's luxurious and traditional pigment is decidedly stately, proving once again that good taste never goes out of style. With that paint comes vast sheetmetal, which, thanks to decades of spending time in a dry garage, appears straight, clean and as crisp as the day the Motor City stamped it. That solid fuselage lines up beautifully, featuring wide doors, which open and close with ease. Spears of white outlining stripes stretch almost 19.5 feet down the sides of one of the longest profiles ever built. And overall, this Chrysler's looks defy the decades its VIN suggests.
ENGINE
Motivation for this 5,033-pound beast is provided by a 440 cubic inch Chrysler B block which, according to the factory, twists 175 horsepower into 300 ft./lb. of smooth torque. Highly original, the massive engine bay is in great condition throughout, featuring many correct components and factory markings. All major service items are 100% functional, including factory air conditioning. Bright blue skin covers the mill from the base of its air cleaner all the way down to its deep oil pan. The car's Satin Black fenders are clean, its firewall straight, and all the places you'd expect rust to hide are essentially solid and untouched. And overall, this sedan looks every bit as road ready as it was in 1976.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Bottom-side, this New Yorker is equipped with Chrysler's reliable TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic, which drives a factory axle and mild gears to effortless highway cruising. That powertrain hangs in a heavy duty suspension, which mixes modern Monroe Gas-Matic shocks with requisite power steering and power front disc and rear drum brakes. Spent gases are whisked away by an old school converter and muffler, which are balanced in a factory-spec single-pipe exhaust system. Like the car's engine bay, that undercarriage is solid, honest and certainly not afraid of wet weather. And everything rolls on painted steel wheels, which spin 235/75R15 Hankook Optimos around ornate, Chrysler-branded covers.
INTERIOR
Naturally, the plush cloth interior is just as cool as the rest of the car, wrapping minimal wear in exquisite '70s luxury. Pillowy seats, featuring full power adjustment at the driver's finger tips, are nicely padded pieces that feel every bit as supple as they look. In front of those mitts, a wood-trimmed dash hangs a correct AM/FM radio and Auto Temp II climate control next to conservative factory telemetry. And in front of the driver, a color-keyed steering wheel laps factory Speed Control and a tilting column.
If you're looking for a spectacular classic that also happens to be a rather unique survivor, this opulent sedan will not disappoint! Call, click or visit RKMotorsCharlot... for more information.

my father had a Blue on blue 76 New Yorker. I simply loved that car. unfortunately it was stolen back in 89, never to be seen again. had it not been stolen, it would have made the move to Europe with us. only differences from this one, and to my father's was, a 3 spoke steering wheel, the side moldings ran along the bottom portion of the side, and we didn't have the ventilation windows. it's still one of the most beautiful cars ever put into production, if you ask me

My Dad was always a Mopar guy. We had a 1967 Dodge something then a 1969 Chrysler Newport. I remember going to the dealers and in the showroom would be this huge beauty 1976, 78 Chrysler New Yorker just out of this world. I would go and sit in the drivers seat just feeling that plush velvet or that soft leather. It was just total luxury. I was never a Mopar guy ended up buying a 1974 Oldsmobile Tornado, Pontiac Lemans, 1985 Cadillac Seville. Cheers 🇨🇦

beautiful...great colors. I had a '75 Imperial with a factory sunroof...basically a twin to this beauty, except had 4 wheel disc and self leveling rear suspension. typical Mopar of the era - fantastic road car/barge, great style, decent drivetrain, startlingly cheap dashboard, marginal build quality. The new owner of this black beauty is a lucky guy.

4 different horsepower ratings for 440's in 1976. 200 for a single exhaust, 440 4BBL with Cali emissions, 205 for same engine with Federal emissions. 250 for a dual exhaust 440 4 BBL with Cali emissions and 255 for the same engine with Federal emissions. Torque around 350 ft/lbs. These numbers went way up if you ditched the Lean Burn ign. and ran a standard elec. ign + swapped on a earlier Carter TQ from say '73. drill out the secondary jets (carbs were tuned too lean for peak performance or mpg, just chasing emissions rules) a few thousandths & even more smiles per gallon could be gotten for little cost or work. suspension, though not as good as 72 & earlier C bodies (rear, 100% perfect leaf springs, sweet torsion bars front, but rubber isolated k frame. this can be fixed with iron or aluminum biscuits to replace the rubber) was excellent, same for brakes & drive train in these beauties.

I got 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway on my 76 NY back in the day, back before I foolishly ran it too hard and blew a head gasket... Sure wish I had that one back, lost it [and almost every last thing in the world I pwned] when I lost a piece of land while I was out of town looking for work, years later tried to chase the car down, the realtor had pretty much gotten dementia and could not remember anything, and his son was too young to know anything about it, so its just gone...along with a spare 440 which I had set beside it to swap out while I would [by plan] rebuild (and power build) the original, then swap it back, and power build the second as a continuously available spare. [spares because I have always been hard on engines]

I agree. I have only seen these seats in pictures. In person I've only seen the tufted seats. And let me tell you, those were the most comfortable seats ever put in a car. Nothing, and I mean nothing, before or after comes close, not even a Rolls Royce. The only car that came close was the 1976 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance, they also had the same tufted seats, but the New Yorker's were more comfortable.

The closest I ever got to owning one of these was a 1990 Chrysler New Yorker......the 3.3 ltr v6 transversally mounted front wheel drive 'K-car' chassis type & it was comfy in its own right, however I would have loved to have had another 2300 lbs or so added to the car for stability- if and when I got passed by a truck in the 1990 model, I could feel the car being ' pushed' over by the airstream from the truck......I knew the 1976 model would never do that.....

It ended it's days because a mechanic replaced a drippy fuel line ( ran across top of the 440 ) with a bloody aquarium hose, till he could get a real replacement. The ditzy blonde at the front desk released the car as fixed. The next day it caught fire and was totally destroyed.

Wow what a beauty! But a red velour interior is comfortable, but a little too ghetto glider for me. A nice white leather would be great. Does anyone remember the Arthur Godfrey commercial in the 60’s/70’s, where he would talk about the Chrysler what I believe was a 7yr/70,000 Warranty? Where he would talk about how strong theTorque/Flight trans is, the while sitting in the drivers seat he would floor the gas pedal and then drop the shift into drive, it would light up the tires, but then he would slam the shifter in reverse! Then go back and forth from drive to reverse all while roasting the tires!! Show up how indestructible the Chrysler drivetrain is!! Now I being a very inquisitive child at the time, with my dad owning an amazing 1968 Chrysler Net Yorker loaded with a 440 Commando V8 with Dual Exhaust Town &Country Beach wagon, actually did the same thing! At my dads trucking company terminal, where he let me drive his cars and trucks as I gas a 1961 International R-220 22’refer Truck! Since I was old enough to reach the pedals! That was the first car I drove legally with a license! Plus my dad gave to me for s few years to drive in! I beat the living h ll out is f that car! While lovingly taking good care of it!
