Sound great" I had a 1967 Austin Cooper 998" and shortly after a while i replaced it with a rebuild 1300cc engine out of a Austin 1300Gt and that had many mods fitted to the engine, That sound of the close cut gears and the LCB single box system and up jetted twin carbs etc" WOW" did she move, Great clip and thanks for the share, 👍

Oh my days the sound the sound! Takes me back when I was kid when my neighbour used to take me out in his Cooper S! Dog box, Rc40, twin choke webber, 8 slot weller wheels etc. Yet with all that influence I've never owned a Mini!!!! I need to.

I had a similar engine (not the same) in a Vanden Plas 1300. What a nice car. It would cruise at 100 MPH, no problem, and quiet(ish) too. This was before the days of speed restrictions.

Yeah I know but I built it with all the spare bits I had left in the garage when I gave up hillclimb/ sprinting, the diff was perfect for that not so much for road use!, still the guy who bought it was going to compete with it so he was happy

I've sold the car now, but yes it had straight cut drops

Are the carbs HS or HIF 1 1/2 ? And how does a 296 feel for daily driving ? I currently have a very daily driveable set up (custom grind cam 268° duration very high mechanical lift, HIF44 BBC Needle, red spring, custom 3D printed velocity stack, 10.9:1 CR, 1330cc and 3.44 FD) which is full of torque from 3.000 rpm and will pull from 1500rpm in fourth no problem. It feels great but I built it with a student budget and I think it might have around 80bhp, which is great, but I would like something a bit more spicy. Now that I have my first job as an engineer with much more resources, I was thinking about going all out, 1460cc with 86mm crank, 73.5mm pistons, EFI and spark control from specialist component, a 5-speed straight cut from minispares with overdrive and a slightly hotter cam (RE13OT seems to be what I want, especially with that extra capacity, the cam will be tamed at low rpm).
