I can't wait to learn to drive in my dad's Mini 1275gt that he is happy for me to drive! I remember sitting next to my dad driving it, especially at the roundabouts the car would make you pull back to your seat - it was exciting and thrilling! That was my very first time experiencing what a classic Mini is like. 👍

A very long time ago I owed a Mk1 Cooper S I had it bored out to 1310 with a stage 3 head, 45mm side draught Weber, I loved the sound that the carburettor made, it was very quick for it's time (1968) I sold it when I got married, I don't think I would be able to get out of one now if I were to sit in on for too long, cheers n thanks for sharing your ride cheers dennis ps I forgot to add my mate had a Mk1 as well, it had a Shorrock supercharger on it std engine went like a rocket, the only give away was a slight bulge on the bonnet left side rear,,.

+Grant Smith.... As a Mini lover and owner in the US I can tell you that most people have never seen a classic Mini. Especially in rural areas. I drive a 1968 Morris Cooper S and get loads of stares every trip.

Hey Geoffernie, the actual redline is 8200 (this is what i have the rev limiter on the MSD set to) but i set the needle at 7 as a bit of a shift marker. Wheel is a 14in non-dish Motalita

@@rosiecarter1933 it sits around 4100rpm or so at 60mph but it seems quite happy there. With the new cam it makes power to about 8100rpm so it's pretty smooth at 4100 :)

Hey Jason, it's a mk1 Cooper S block with a mk2 S head and straight cut gearbox. Big valves, porting, Russell Engineering cam, 72.5mm RE pistons, everything balanced and lightened where possible. Too many other bits to list here but it is sure fun to drive

Russell Engineerng has a few cam specifications. Which is the one? Do you have the duration of the cam? Would it be a 643/644 camshaft? 282 degrees of duration?

@@jasonheng5568 I've switched to an RE270 now and it made 13hp more on the dyno and ran 14.5 @ 92mph a few weeks ago. Feels like it has a lot more torque down low and pulls like a train to 8000 now :) it's so much fun to drive

@@chux007 I am on calverst website, I can’t find the specifications. At this moment, I have a metro camshaft; thinking of I could supercharge the setup instead. If I were to put a 270 or a 286, supercharging will not be a viable option. What are your thoughts on a metro cam-ed engine with a mr2 supercharger; I current have that kit in pieces😆

@@jasonheng5568 I'm no expert but from what I've seen most people run the RE13T cam or something similar for turbo and supercharged applications. The high revving cams like 286 / 282 / 270 would most likely be a bit of a dog down low with the lower compression sc/turbo motor

Dude, that things cammy as fook for a 286,my 1380, 300 newman, 12/1 comp on a 3.44 on 10in wheels goes from 3200 and is a lot smoother /115 at flyw 😀👌

Yeah it was pretty cranky back then, i've added an MSD 6AL since then and a different cam, it's much nicer to drive now and makes more hp/tq too!

Hey Anthony, not sure on the exact specs of the cam but it is a Graham Russell 286i cam, around 10.5:1 comp ratio and it has a quaiffe in it with 3.76 from memory

+Scott Sherman I don't mean to sound like a smart arse but....learn to drive first. At 17 you are far too young to be driving one of these, they are very light and without the right feel for the car you can end up with one hell of a tank slapper. If you want an original MKII, turn key, already restored look at paying $25.000 plus.A really good Rover one from Japan will cost around $15.000/$20.000 mark. There is a place on Parramatta Rd. in Sydney who import them but there is a bit of work got to be done to make them Australian legal.

It's all Cooper S running gear, big valves / ports, straight cut gearbox and quaife diff. RE 286i cam. It's changed a bit since this video.

Now I have 3 minis and one is a 1435cc with 45 Weber... still not as wild at the one I am building 1979 1435cc ( 1380 stroked ) British Leyland 1967 Mk1 Cooper S in build 1994 Cooper .. Rover SPI .. K20 AWD Sp6.. still in build.. but getting very close.. :)

+chux007 seriously? i know this is a year old but that seems almost rather small compared to other engines ofthe same spec. that may as well be a race engine but surely you should be making more power than that? a 286 and its overbored to 1340? what carb is on there?

+chux007 haha no, im in south brisbane, hope to mak a few trips down there for some mini shows though when mines finished. I would have thought that engine would have made around 110hp. i have a 286 on my 1293 but i wont be using it. im getting a bmw twin cam for it and injection though. im expecting around 120 for mine but my mini soecialist has been making 140 from them. he then goes and turbocharges them aswell...bit if a mad man really.
