Here in the UK we get the 125i E82 which is exactly the same engine as the 128i, but with the 3 stage manifold, so a simple remap gives you anywhere between 265-285 bhp. I bought my 125i after having my 335i N54 for almost 3 years, mainly with the intention to use it as my daily. like you said, if you want a rewarding, fun, reliable daily drivers car that is still fast, the 125i/128i is a no brainer. If you want to chase numbers or just want something ridiculously fast the 135i/335i is the way to go. But do keep in mind that my 335i has cost me double the value of 125i ... yet.

Hey buddy Just saw your post...I have the same car (I live in Australia,so have the euro spec model) What tune did you go with...? Have you done any other mods..? Not alot of choice in Australia but one of the company's im Sydney is an authorised dealer/installer for Celtic tuning (UK based) they have gotten tons of 5 star reviews and very positive feedback....I want to get this done in the next couple mths...my car has 49k miles... I would like to get a 2nd hand 235i next year as the m2 is just to pricey here....but I get told a tune on 125i will get me happy for now..
@aa7h9114 жыл бұрын
@@lavine0823 No other mods just a remap. I've heard some good and some neutral reviews regarding Celtic, I think Celtic actually offers the most 283bhp here in the UK but from what I've heard they're only mobile tunners so no dyno runs etc? Mine was actually done by BM chiptune (Jason) because most recommended him on the babybmw forum and also his dyno is said to be real. I've had no issues and to be honest the 125i runs in my opinion alot smoother and maybe a bit faster than my N53 330i which comes stock at 272. Maybe give BM chiptune a message on facebook and see if they do any remote map?

@@aa7h911 Cheers mate....Yeah when I was searching what the guys were doing....I noticed Jason had alot great feedback and results... They do an install including sprintbooster....So I will more than likely get this done over the next few weeks... Celtic have recently upgraded their home base digs which now has dynos...
@aa7h9114 жыл бұрын
@@lavine0823 Celtic should just be fine, so long as you dyno the car before and after and also make sure there are temp readings on your graphs to prove the numbers they claim. K&N from what I read is oil based and isn't good and makes no difference? I've heard the regular box and filter (at least in the UK models) are the best setup. I've heard the best exhaust setup would only show another 5bhp maybe? There was a guy in the states I think that did N54 intake and throttle body, res delete and 135i muffler that makes 300 apparently. There is also MILVs that claim to give an additional 10/15bhp so with the remap very close to 290. In my case I didn't want to spend crazy money or put too much stress with MILVs so I simply did the remap with a res delete and N55 muffler. Sounds amazing and made good power.

Great review! Im from the UK so we have the 125i. I am split between this and 135i, but I hear that the n54 & 55 can be quite unreliable. So no seeing this I'm swaying more towards the n52
@e28_m52 жыл бұрын
I've had an N52 125i since February and I absolutely love the thing. Been lucky enough to spend a good amount of time behind the wheel of an M340i with the B58 (turbo 3.0) and although mine would be left in the dust by it, the sound and feeling of a big N/A engine cannot quite be matched. I was giggling like a school girl driving around in the M340i in Sport+ with the windows down... but the first time I red-lined my 125i honestly beat that feeling, and 4 months later I still feel the same way. And although mine is only rated at 215hp at the moment, I am fully intending on remapping it to the full ~265hp potential, which personally is in spitting distance of the turbocharged engines... Mine is absolutely golden too- 77k on the clock and it hasn't burnt a drop of oil in the last 5k, just passed it's MOT with one advisory (suspension, which I knew when I bought it, and will be sorted soon with an independent). I can't speak for the N54/N55, and most the things I love about mine will carry over (plus a load of extra torque and power) but the extra reliability worries were too much for me unfortunately.

@@e28_m5 has the water pump in yours been replaced or any of the other common engine problems? I'm looking at buying one privately at 80k, but there's not much history of any of the common issues being sorted

Fantastic video. Can you comment on shifter feel? I'm hoping to grab a 128i as my next car, but coming from a BRZ (and currently owning a S2000) shifter feel is a big deal to me. Also, any problems with rust if the car is winter-driven?

Nah I got a 128i vert and I’ve gone through 3 winters with it no rust as long as u keep the under cover that comes with the car stock, great car if ur fine with 225-280hp sadly I want more power so I’m looking for a 135i or a good priced 235i xDrive.

Your car looks very flat when it corners, mine is like a boat on base suspension. I got mine for 12k out the door with 70k miles. I got my 128i because of your video I’ve watched a few months back. It’s a good platform to build on, but stock, especially base car is underwhelming if you push it, but it’s still fun. I’m currently researching what suspension to go with.

Cool video and nice car. I have a 128i as well. Not quite ready to get into competitive autocross yet but slowly looking to button up the suspension from stock. Car came with the BMW Performance Suspension. I’ve already added M3 front control arms and M3 rear subframe bushings. Looking now to put the Bilstein B8s in to go with the Performance Suspension Springs.
