I've heard that Japanese people are quite introverted and it can be a challenge to get them out of their shell, but you've demonstrated how approaching them in a certain manner can lead to some great interactions. I recommend to visit there in winter especially in December. Spring and Autumn are the best but too many tourists. Too hot in August unless you stay in highland. Japanese winter is absolutely beautiful.
