halo-halo has dual meaning in filipino. one is "mix-mix" and the other is "varieties". thats why the proper way of eating halo-halo is to mix it well or mix the varieties of ingredients well before eating :)

Filipino bbq are always so good! That “ketchupy marinade” is based on banana ketchup (Filipino ketchup). The drink you ordered with sago (boba) and gulaman (jelly) is mainly arnibal (sugar syrup) with pandan leaves (or vanilla grass, which is a common herb in the Philippines) that turned into a dessert type of beverage. Also, the term “halo-halo” is “mix-mix” in English, which is why to enjoy it better, you must mix everything throughly. Though the term “halo-halo” can also mean a variety pf everything, hence the inclusion of a lot of ingredients. Good thing you still enjoyed it! Btw, keep up the good work! You’re literally one of the best travel vloggers here on KZbin!

Harry sire, Halo Halo actually means " mix - mix" in English. You're supposed to mix everything together before you eat it. But still glad you kinda liked it . Chow King, that Chinese fast food you've tried in Uptown Mall, also offers halo halo in their menu. Keep exploring and have fun discovering things here in our humble country. Stay safe & take care,

Late comment 😁 I just discovered today your vlogs and they are wonderful! Halo halo is the best of our native thirst quencher.. the first thing to do is to dig in the spoon down the bottom slowly then do it again and again till everything starts to mix melt and get squishy but leave that yellow lecheflan caramel so you'll always get the yummy flavor on top... that's how you eat halohalo 😁... and next you already had sago gulaman... then the next maybe if you can find calamansi juice, our native lemonade which is way better than the western lemonade I may say...😆 No offense 🙏🏼.. then check out as well the buko pandan gulaman, the buko juice and melon juice.. these are our islands thirst quenchers! 👍🏼👍🏼

Most Filipinos have English names due to the American colonization. Majority of them also have Spanish surnames because of the Spanish colonization. That is why if you meet someone with English first name (John or Evelyn, for example) and a Spanish surname (dela Cruz or Garcia for example), he or she is probably a Filipino. Also, majority of the Filipinos know how to understand and speak in English because it is a required course in Philippine Education System. It’s just that some just cannot speak fluently, especially those in the lower-income level of socio-economic categories.

Sago & Gulaman (nibble & drink) originally was a organic drink Sago is "Tapioca", Gulaman is "Seaweed Jelly" it's the same term used for seaweed the word Gulaman those grapes like seaweed and the hair like seaweed you sometimes see and sold in the market.. Halo Halo are mostly organic as well made up of ice shaving, Sago, Gulaman, Cocunut Jelly (nata de coco),palm fruit (Kaong), Mung beans (mungo), jam banana (saba), ube jam (halaya), stripped coconut (buko), leche plan (egg & milk plan), toasted rye (pinipig), jam navy beans (puting patani), makapuno (syrup + jelly like coconut water), jam jack fruit (langka), cane sugar (tubo) and condensed milk (gatas) these mix varies from seller to seller. These brain freeze dessert existed long before the new trends of tapioca milk and ice tea drinks and all it's variation you see everywhere, they meant to cool you down in the hot summer days. 👌👍😎✌.

Since we are a tropical country the main objective of Halo-halo is to cool down the body from the intense heat of the weather. We dont have a uniform ingredients to follow it really depends on ones choice which to mix. When I was small ice creams werent mixed . During this modern times the ice cream was added and that the most preferred flavor is ube.(purple yum) The basic ingredients are beans, langka, pinipig( roasted rice), nata de coco etc

Fun Facts: not all halo halo are the same: the most fundamental ingredients may vary... someplace uses evaporated milk, others use condensed milk while a few use fresh milk. The custard you were referring to is called "leche flan" you can compare it to creme burlee; consisting mainly of milk and eggs. I see they used rice crispies but the old fashion halo halo uses pinipig. The rice crispies bring the crunch factor of the pinipig but personally, I prefer pinipig. And no halo halo is complete without ube ice cream! Sago is also known as tapioca pearls and gulaman is jelly... to avoid a horrible sugar rush, you can tone down the sweetness by asking for extra ice or shaved ice... be well guys!

You always make me laugh with your one liners Harry. Anyway, Mang Inasal's halo-halo is cheap but pretty good. In case you get a craving for halo-halo, just head out to a Mang Inasal. They're almost everywhere now like Jollibee.

Hi Harry! Hope you're enjoying your stay here in the Philippines with Ali, . I suggest you visit our nice beaches like Boracay, Palawan , Siargao and many many more beautiful places here. You may try Aling Bebang's halo-halo which you may order online. Up to when are you staying here guys? "Ingat lagi"...meaning "take care"🥰

For me, halo-halo has been mis-interpreted as mix-mix meaning you have to mix all the ingredients to get a uniform taste...but it is not. It just means that it has different variety of ingredients and it is sad for me to say that mixing all its ingredients destroys it's individual flavor.

Well, you cannot call it anymore as Halo-Halo when you don't mixed it up. You're only gonna have parfait-like Desserts with that. Even thr One-based Fruit Iced Desert, like Mais Con Yelo or Saging Con Yelo is mixed so just you can enjoy it's full Flavors.

The way I eat my halo-halo: I get partial tastes of the ice cream, the flan, the ube, and other ingredients which taste I am not familiar of individually - then I mix them all altogether and enjoy it as a mixture. I think you did it almost the same way. Not all halo-halo have the same ingredients, and thus prices could vary from place to place. To mix when container is very full, try stabbing it with the serving spoon up and down, until the ice flakes starts to melt and the sweeter ingredients are distributed throughout the whole mixture.

Hi Harry! Halo halo means “mix mix” because of the mixture of ingredients and because you’re supposed to mix it thoroughly until it becomes almost homogenous. Then you can eat it.
