I have a bluebird box. They have nested for 3 years. Over 50 little birds have come out of that box. Next to the box I have a bird feeder and they never go to the feeder. These birds are primarily carnivorous, they like worms, insects and love spiders. It is fun to see that none of them in this video eat seeds, they are all going for the dried worms :-) :-)

seahue! Congratulations on an awesome video! I never really put much thought into feeding them; other than special berry cakes & suet cakes. Obviously, mealworms are the way to go! Now I'm in poor health and unable to replace houses, put up feeders, etc. Your video absolutely made my day! My mother & father used to call blue jays bluebirds a long time ago. (I saw another viewer who said the same. Lol) I gave them their first "official" bluebird house and the ONLY feeders they ever had. Oh, how they loved the Eastern bluebirds when they started seeing them come to their yard! Quite a long time ago, I had pairs of bluebirds and several families to stay thru fledging. The type of bluebird house, size of the entry, height at which you mount it, where you mount it and places to fly to when spooked all have to be considered when providing housing for them. It's all totally worth whatever it takes! Thank you, seahue, from the bottom of my old heart for sharing this special video with so many others. I'll be sharing it, too! God bless you and all of your beautiful feathered friends. 💜

You're right, watching Bluebirds is so much fun but the cost of mealworms is very expensive. The solution is to raise your own mealworms. It's so simple and cheap. All you need are a few plastic trays, some wheat bran and a few baby carrots. I won't go into detail but there are hundreds of videos on raising mealworms. You'll never run out again!

You want Blue Birds folks put out MEALWORMS...!!! It's there favorite i've had just as many at my feeders especially over the winter months. I've been in the avian field now for the past 30yrs. So i've had my fair share of time feeding and working with these birds among MANY other species for that matter. And no matter what i've experimented with in terms of feeding them Mealworms are there MEAL TICKET and main attractant. So if you have them in your area whether there nesting or feeding at your feeders. Give them meal worms and watch them go ecstatic...!!!

I've got many Eastern Bluebirds also since I put up a bluebird house about a year ago .They seem to only like the dried mealworms and they spend alot of time chasing each other around. I don't know if they're being competitive, playful or just honing their skills but they do have some wonderful flying abilities.

Yes the bluebirds are doing great in Connecticut...I've talked to people from other towns in Connecticut and they say they see many bluebirds as well:) I thought about farming my own mealworms...yet the bluebirds only eat them when the snow covers the ground...so it is a seasonal thang..I just found a great site on the internet that sells mealworms for an awesome price...4 pounds for $45 ..The feed stores around my house charge close to $100 for 4 pounds!

(we def considered trapping them and dragging them to PA with us! )Our many blue bird feeders full of mealworms have not succeeded in getting PA bluebirds to visit us.. We are going to put out some houses soon, but is there anything else you can suggest? We have plenty of other birds... but just no bluebirds..
