As a landscape artist myself I must say that Mr. Smith is magnificent! His technique outstanding and his results are incredibly photographic. One can only aspire to his excellence in art!

Thanks so much Michael, I'm a trained botanical artist working in tiny controlled detail. I've been making the switch to plein air painting in the summer to stretch my brain and go back to my roots....feeling like a duck out of water but having fun. Your instruction on how to paint with detail at texture helps so much...thank you for sharing your work with us....hugely helpful! :)

Amazing you get all those colors from such a limited pallet. I would like to see the photo source at times throughout the painting process. I have struggled for years with trees and plants. I have enjoyed watching you develop your trees and scenery. And this one only took 2 cups of coffee!

I am so glad i can follow your video's,i am a porcelainpainter but i've always problems to paint water and rocks and their shadows. I want to give it a try, but because to paint the porcelain way you only can paint from light to dark (in opposite to paint with acrylics) i give it a try and will keep you posted

Michael Congratulations; that's one hell of a painting you've got there. Great detail in those rocks albeit time consuming. How do you manage to part with a great piece of art? Such a labour intensive project would prohibit me from selling it off. Do you keep many of them for your family home? Interesting too is that your background mountains seem to be quite dark compared to the mid tones and seem to run against aerial perspective laws; seem to work just fine though.
@cwlindWX8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for doing these Michael. I was going to ask you about the outline around the rocks, but you addressed it :) Just goes to show, all rules have exceptions! And it is thin enough to avoid the "cartoony" effect wile still bringing them forward and giving separation. Have you considered any video courses? May as well get some passive income while you're at it lol (Vimeo has a good model).
