I used to get frustrated with outsiders (mostly people from church) asking me to volunteer because they thought that since I was a SAHM I had time on my hands l, and I felt pressure and intimidation when I said no. This included working as a church secretary and having the children sit in the church library - that was a huge mistake. Another was asking me to sub in the Christian school and bring the children with me. I can’t begin to state all the things people asked me to do. One hint is to build cubby holes in a closet - we added an entire closet - to store their books and supplies. They each had their own cubby. That helped so much. Also in that closet were pens, pencils, colors, tape, glue, scissors… I would never have school year round. We lived in a northern climate so summer days were very important to us. They gardened and mowed, but had free time to be creative. They did crafts and spent their days hiking in the woods, wading in the creek, reading books, building a tree house and zip line, and just being kids. It’s also the time when they did their soccer and softball. I loved the free days of summer. Winter they went sledding and and ice skating during recess. My kids loved to be active.

Yes, being good at saying "No!" is such an important skill for homeschool moms. So glad that you figured that out. Your closet cubby idea is fantastic!

It took me many years to learn that two letter word. 😐

What a fabulous video today Ashley. I didn't homeschool my children who are now 43 and 41 but we did go over school in the early evenings, sort of homework style. What I found helpful with the reading aloud when they were young was to record their favourite bedtime stories. When I was unable to do bedtime reading, of course my husband took over but they always wanted to hear the little quips and extras I put in, so after Pat (hubby) read them their stories, he would play the tape recorder. I still have that tape and its lovely to hear their laughter and little voices as we went through the story. Again, thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. Anyone homeschooling will find those tips very helpful, thanks again xxx

These are great tips! Thank you for sharing! I think you shared this but I'm not sure, do you use MP Classical Christian studies? If so, do you follow only one level or do each of your students follow a different Bible stream?

We started with Christian Studies I last year, and do it all together at the breakfast table each morning.

Thank you so much for making this video! How do you handle each child having their own literature/Christian studies/classical studies/Latin workbook with MP? Do you write them all on the board? Nadine
@AshleyMBuffa Жыл бұрын
We all do the same Christian studies unit together at the table for breakfast and answer those questions orally, I drill them daily so they remember. I write literature and Classical studies on the board for my students that are 5th grade and below, my older students have enough practice knowing what is expected, so I just check their work. Latin is done individually in the same format, the 5th grader and below are with me. My current 7th grader will be doing online classes next year including Latin, and my highschool daughters are already in online classes.

@@AshleyMBuffa This response answers my question that's above! Did you start with Christian Studies 1 with you kids or another level?

Great video! Thank you. Curious, why is it important to you that your children learn Latin? =)
