I don't have a blog, or a vlog, but quit my job at 52, and I'm 83 now. I live a tiny life, and really love life now. Gave most away. Sold some, and discovered how much fun it is to call Habitat For Humanity, and they took everything I wanted to give them, except exercise equipment. I put a sign at the curb, and it was all gone that afternoon. Meantime I lost 80 lbs... more to go on all levels, but have moved and wonder what I did with all that stuff. They had become anchors. I'm fixing up my little space to enjoy, and/or sell it to move closer to my daughter. Living small is a joy. Thanks for your inspiration.

I have read all your books and tried to implement many of the principles. With no debt (even our house is paid off), we can be so much more generous. Just last night, we provided dinner and served it to 70 people at homeless shelter with our kids. If we had debt from accumulating stuff, that money would have easily been allocated to loan payments. Instead, we got to bless others and have a great serving opportunity as a family.

I also had a lightbulb moment during an international flight to my nieces wedding. I suddenly thought that if the plane went down, my adult sons would be burdened with dealing with the multitude of possessions in our 4500 sq.ft home. This launched me into a year long declutter project which I loved. We ended up selling our family home two years later. For me, packing up our home and downsizing was easy. For my husband, not so much. The one area I didn't touch during our declutter was our two car garage as that was his space. He hadn't been a willing participant in the minimalist journey until he was forced to deal with the garage. What took me one year, he had to complete in one week. The good news is that he is now on the "Owning Less" train. A side note, I think one of my favorite videos is the one you and your wife poke fun at all the comments you've received over the years. I laughed so hard at some of them and it's so refreshing to see that you both have a great sense of humor.

I was raised as a minimalist by parents who where minimalists way back in the early 1970's so for me it's a normal way of life, which I am grateful for but I'm always amazed at how much stuff people can fit into their homes and not be bothered by it. Mind you, these same people are amazed at how little we have and how clean and tidy our home is and I say to them that the less you own, the less you have to clean it which gives me more time and money to do other things. And you're right, there is no better feeling than waking up to a tidy home and a clean kitchen.

Best compliment I had was a few weeks ago when a repair guy came to work on our washing machine. He looked around and said wow.,Does anyone live here? This includes some belongings from both of our mothers' and my brother's home that have not been dealt with after their passing. With the help of my adult son (who has collections of his own) I have been building my decluttering muscles. Your videos resonate with me, the way you approach life as a minimalist is very calming. Especially loved this video. Some of the surprises I've learned in my journey: 1) daily life is calmer if your nooks, drawers, closets, only shout with joyful items back to you, 2) decluttering is extremely therapeutic, especially when outside forces you can't control are breaking you down emotionally, 3) most surprisingly, it's making me actually love some items more than ever and appreciate them in a totally new way.

Joshua, I've never thought to 'journal' my journey of why and how I've become a minimalist. I can pinpoint the exact time when it impacted me. I was maybe 11-12 years of age and once again dad and I are taking 'stuff' to the dump and I asked him why do we make so many trips to the dump and his response is 'son you take pride in your home and if it's not being used and isn't of value/usage to others then get rid of it. It hit me then why our home was sparsely decorated and only tools, etc. in the shed that were used ongoing. From then on It resonated with me and today life continues in an 'invisible' way. LOVE IT! I'm joked about, asked if I'm preparing to move, etc. And must say it's played into only FB sporadically is used and other social media is needed nor required in my life. And made big decision to declutter toxic friends/family.

I heard you on focus on the family in 2009/2010. At that time we had just gotten married and had only one child I couldn’t comprehend how people could own so many things and struggle with it. Well fast forward fourteen years lol I went back looking you up online because our family and home over time have become cluttered and a burden instead of a joy. I remembered the name Joshua Becker and minimalism all these years and have tried to stick to what I heard then but it’s different now that it applies. So this past year I’ve been on my own journey to minimalism, It’s tough with five kids a husband (and his family) being “maximists” (if that’s a world 😂) but I’m learning how to respect them and yet find the freedom we so desperately need. Thank you for all your work and for the seed you’ve sown into my life all those years ago! Keep doing what you’re doing, this world needs it now more than ever! Blessings!

About 7 years ago , my marriage was falling apart and I feared how my children and I would make it with so much less: a smaller house and few things, and less money. You and your minimalist ideas: have help me understand that following my divorce that I did not need to replace all the objects I had to leave behind. The weight of consumerism and pressure to keep up was released. My new personal pursuit for my children and myself have been mindful and focused on what's most important to our life. This continues to bless my family and now I work for a organizing/declutter house company. I encourage clients to follow you!!!! Thank you and bless you and your family. Less is more :)

I started reading everything I could on minimalism in 2010, back then you could google the word and re-read the same 50 articles, waiting for something new to come along. I'm really glad Minimalism is a giant rabbit hole now. I started taking my decluttering seriously after some big quakes in Christchurch, turning everything into missiles, and it's given me a chance to protect my priorities - travel, time home with my son, making it a priority to buy ethical and quality toys and clothes. I've still got a lot to learn, but I'm so grateful for the path my life is going down. Cheers Joshua!

I'm not sure how long ago I found you but it's great that I have something to "share" with people who aren't quite convinced when I tell them all my quirks. I feel like I have always been somewhat minimalist and simple. One of my kids just asked me what toys I had when I was a kid and I honestly couldn't name 10 things. My twin boys are my youngest(14 now) and they don't have much either(they love their legos and lincoln logs, matchbox cars, and board games). We have small wardrobes and each 2 towels and a place setting in our favorite color. It is amazing how freeing when the chaos and clutter are non-existent. My friends are jealous that I have time to sit and watch the birds. I am so glad my kids have seen then benefits of this lifestyle. We also consider ourselves to be environmentalists which also leads our counter consumerism!!

It’s amazing to see how many people are in need of basic things that we’ve hoarded for years. then I cleaned out my linen closet and gave away all of my towels, except for six sets and three sets of linen. I've been following your KZbin channel for about 3 years. I became a minimalst back in 2016ish. I'm obsessed with being tidy and having no clutter. When I discovered the minimalistic lifestyle I was so happy that there were other people in the world who also embraced keeping what you need and letting go of the unnecessary items in one's life to pursue peace and contentment. I've learned that when you choose on purpose to live and act accordingly to your principles it does several things for you. Minimalsm has taught me these principles 1 accountability- towards myself and others to live in such a way that works for me. 2 acceptance- that I can enjoy life by possessing less and keeping my life simple. 3 avalibility- to help others and myself without feeling overwhelmed by my possessions. 4 action-to carry out what I believe and help others live a life that's not overwhelming. To help others reach their vision of what minimalsm means to them.

And when you mentioned that writing the blog and reading about minimalism helped you in your resolve to maintain this lifestyle, it made me think of the reason whe we should continue reading the Bible and sharing it's message with others - it gives a lot of practical advice for our modern day and benefits us as well. My mom and my sister are both hoarders. At nearly 70, my mom is finally starting to see that owning less can be so freeing. I wish my sister could see that, too- especially because she has a young daughter who is living in a very unhealthy and stressful environment. If she could just get to a place with less stuff, I don’t think she would ever go back after experiencing the peace it brings. I just don’t know how to show her that in the midst of all of the chaos she is clinging to. It makes me sad that she lives in such stress and is passing it on to her daughter.

I was so touched by the story about your son playing by himself while you push possessions around. I could absolutely feel inside myself how you both felt that day! My sorting went very well that day and it got me started with listening to a minimalist video regularly while I reduce the stuff that's stuffing my life. It definitely does get easier and easier to see what has real value and what is blocking life. Thank you. I really enjoy your manner and content and often listen several time over while I'm working. 🌞🌞🌞

Joshua, I had to Stop watching your video to tell you, that for me also the first book of decluttering was this book of Karen Kingston nearly 20 years ago! But unfortunately it didn't work for me althogh it was so nice to read and spoke to ne. But I never had been able to declutter until 4 or 5 years ago . And I' m still not done with it....That' s one of the reasons I like your content so much. There is always new motivation. Thank you and greetings from Germany 😊

It was a parent of four who suggested one of your blog posts. Then everyone was sharing them. We are so on board with your 14 reasons too! The best was focussing on the unseen!

Excellent encouragement! I have a spouse who feels that if buying one item is good, then 2 is better. Even if we didn't need either. The support of your wife is a wonderful gift! I will try 333, which I have not done yet. Our garage is packed to the gills, and we have mice because it is such a great place to hide, and our pantry is there...

I think you might have been one of my first inspirations for minimalism and applying it for myself. It's a journey, not a goal and in the past years I've been more minimalist in some years and not so very much in others. But it always helps me when I'm stuck with feeling not good with myself. I even had an own blog about minimalism and soon want to start a yt channel here. So thank you for your content and staying visible for so long in this fast-paced world!

Even in the worst of times. I managed to pay off a debt, my bills are in credit (regular bills), I have no credit cards and just a mortgage. I donated most, I threw away the rest and my house is extremely clean! Thanks for your help…nearly 4 years on and 41 years old. Best thing I ever did.

Hello Joshua, I recently put my Karen Kingston book, the one you mentioned, along with 3 others on Feng Shui, out together where I walk by them to help me stay inspired. During the first few years in this house I used them to help it ‘settle down’ and be more energetically comfortable. My plan In six months when I’ve finished clearing is to work with them again as the icing on the cake to finish this house clearing project. Always wishing you and your family well from Tucson. I have a strange question. Would your wife mind allowing you to share with us HER minimalist wardrobe? Thanks for considering it and I love your work. Highly inspirational!

I've often wondered about this too. Womens wardrobes are the the most difficult thing and very exhausting. It's also challenging and for women to walk into a home store and ignor lovely furnishings. My weakness is throws and. cushions. I would take a colour from a wall picture/canvass and build around that... several times over the years . That has become less and less in the last couple of years and I've resigned myself to realising that I just need to stay away from the shops let alone online.

@@Happydayz111 I just think men can get away with much simpler wardrobes than women. For some reason it is much more frowned upon if a woman were to wear the same uniform every day, therefore I don't see it often.

Look up Courtney Carver and project 333. That's the one mentioned in the video. Courtney does a great job of helping people minimize their wardrobe.

As a foreigner, I do not relate to the garage story. But I do relate (and many people for sure) with how you ended up not being able to spend time with your kid (who could be any loved one in another person's example) since you had to deal with stuff. As always, great video.

I can’t believe it has been so long! Still so important. Thank you. You were the beginning of the journey for me. God has blessed you and that is a blessing for me. My journey has been an influence on many people in my sphere of influence.

Thank you Joshua. Very good video, you really inspire me. I have come a long way in my journey (I like to think) but have a long ways to go. I am trying to get ready for a future move to a condo (2 or 3 years) after almost 40 years in the same house. Have a good day. I always look forward to your videos on Fridays.
