I love Chiang mai also, it's so layed back there and really Cheap. I love the Sunday Market, I was also very surprised that they had a little bar scene there,which I didn't know about the first few times that I visited.

I will be looking at the area of Chang Mai for sure after I retire. If you say it has a small touristy area but it is more Normal Real ThailandThen I know I would like it there!
