16“ better cooling, speakers, battery, screen space

Absolutely! It definitely offers more as a machine! 💪 However, it also comes with a $300 higher price tag and a loss in portability.

its insane buying a 24inch external monitor is cheaper than upgrading 2 inch of your macbook
@SpotlightToday10 ай бұрын
That's a unique perspective! Although the matter extends beyond the display size, it's tied to the bigger battery, more metal, larger speakers, trackpad, and the convenience of having it all in a portable laptop. But you're right, the price difference is substantial enough to make you reevaluate the overall benefits. And the alternative you brought out is spot-on, worthy of consideration!

@@SpotlightToday yeah another persepective, like having a external ssd coz storage upgrade is expensive af, and many ssd are discounted right now

I have both 14 inch m3 pro and 16 inch m3 max. i use them at 100% brightness. for some reason, my 14 inch gives me significantly higher battery life than my 16 inch
@SpotlightToday6 ай бұрын
That's interesting insight. The Max tends to be power-hungry and unfortunately can have some battery-draining issues because of it. Seems to be a general thing.

Much agreed! 🙌 We use the 16'' for editing, while the 14'' is our go-to for everyday use and travelling-just so much more convenient.

How much RAM do you recommend for a photography workflow with Lightroom Classic and Photoshop on the new MacBook Pro with M4 Pro chip? I work with RAW photos with 40+ megapixels. Are there any workflows where choosing 48GB would be better than 24GB?
@SpotlightToday7 күн бұрын
For your workflow, 24GB is really the minimum minimum, especially for handling RAW photos with 40+ megapixels. Apple Silicon is highly efficient, so 24GB should cover most needs if you're editing smaller batches or multitasking moderately. However, if you're batch processing large RAW files (hundreds at once), using AI-powered tools like noise reduction or masking alongside Lightroom and Photoshop, multitasking heavily-say running multiple editing apps plus reference tabs, music, or other tools and working with an external 4K+ monitor while performing tasks like HDR and panorama merging, 48GB would definitely ensure much smoother performance and future-proof your setup as your files and tools grow more demanding. Otherwise, 24GB should handle most tasks beautifully.

I got the 14" base model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB drive. I just returned it yesterday for a Space Black Pro chip model with a 1TB drive. I'm happy I did as like was said in the video, I want this to last me 5 years (at least, more like 6 to 8) and figured the extra fan, cores, memory would be nice.

What about the heating problem in 14 inch ? Does that generate lot of heat and fan noise, if we do a lot of multitasking ?
@SpotlightToday9 ай бұрын
In general, the matter isn't severe enough to consider them 'heat problems'. While the 14'' model can run about 10-20% hotter than the 16'', it has a minimal impact on its performance. Whether the slightly increased temperatures will become problematic later, as components wear down and newer software demands increase, is another question, but so far, it doesn't seem to be an issue. Regarding fan noise, when comparing the same tasks, the 14'' model's fans usually start working earlier, and sometimes in situations where the 16'' model doesn't need to ramp up the fans at all. Thus, the 14'' model operates with increased and maximum fan speeds much more often, resulting in louder operation. On a positive note, people usually prefer the higher-pitched noise of the 14'' model over the 16'' when comparing the noise impact itself. For us, fan noise is not a significant distraction, so we are fine with it. However, if it is an important factor for you, you might consider the 16'' model.

@@SpotlightToday Yep. To be honest the 13" M1 MBP was a little small, but just a little. The work that I do at home, I need a LARGE(32" BenQ DesignColor) monitor to do, but the work I do on the road, a light, small, powerful laptop fits the bill nicely, and can drive my monitor at home.
