brooo , I wish I could just tell you this in person cuz dude u have honestly opened up a diff style in my life Zach. I didn't know much about bikes at all, I'm from a small, almost all hispanic and a bit urban town in nj called union city. I always but always saw someone riding "fixies" how everyone here calls them, and they look so cool to me as a kid but I knew how expensive they were and couldn't even imagine of having one ever. I grew up and was lwky just laying down scrolling my feed. and I see a vid from u like from 8 years ago, and usually I go past them cuz like who's watching some old vid, but bro its like I knew to watch urs, how u were so down to earth, the editing of ur vids, and how u explain stuff so in depth when it comes to smt so simple. bro u opened up a whole gate for me to just roam. seeing ur bikes legit made me go on eBay and search up fixed gears lol. I tried riding a fixie a few times as a kid obviously cuz my friends had some, but never understood the foot part and scared me to death man, but boy ur vids have actually helped me improve as a "fixed gear rider" and become at least a grain of this beautiful subculture. Im 18 and have gotten a few jobs, my first ever fixie I could say I bought with my own money for $50 on offerup was a Kent 700c lime green bike, when I tell you I felt like the man, even tho it was a bit corny, with all my all electric green bike with all white rims, I watched ur vids even more and like learned SOOOO much about bike parts and mechanics. About like 2 weeks after owning my bike it got stolen outside my house and made a police report and was s o heartbroken cuz I knew I wouldn't get it back, I felt so powerless being home, no corny stuff but like bro being outside and riding makes me feel badass, so I urged moving my legs. I think getting my bike stolen was a blessing as much as a curse because I learned that the bike I had was legit low low tier when it came to these of bikes and weighed so much, so I saved up and bought another blue fixed gear on mercari for $80 with some money from my savings. I rode it back FROM NEW YORK, bro I felt like the man with that brand new bike, still have it ,till recently I scored big on Facebook marketplace and bought a urban 6ku aluminum bike for $35 and from there ive been adding so much better parts and really making it look up to par with ur vids, hope we can ride together, u been a great help when it came down to beginners, thank u Zach for everything fr no glaze, stay safe and I'll keep watching.

I feel you on the depression and biking helping out managing it. I used to have really bad depression but when it was heavy getting out on a ride would help me out esp cus my mind would be all over it would race around and I would over think ontop of the depression. Also love the videos with hao He seems great and love when he makes an appearance.

your video is one of the reason i get into fixed gear. as a student living in taipei, being a machanic in faith gear has always been my dream. your video really inspired me to building my own beater bike and doing all the bike repair myself, i think what you teached me isn't just about riding bike but making friends along the way!

Great recap. I can relate to all of that including the depression, except that in high school back in the 70s there was no mental support, no bike community. But I rode my bike all over the place, and it was gold. Like you said depression does bring good things like connection and being more 'into' what you do, and lots more. Funny how that works.

Great summary of your journey. Been with you since the first few vids. Has been a real pleasure to watch you grow. Not as a rider. But as a person. And also seeing your content creators communication skill set get better and better. I watch because you keep it real. Even when you are going some place that ends up being a dead end you always seem to be able to come away with a available insight. Nothing is a failure if you learned what you aren't going to do next time. Keep exploring you!

Good stuff, keep pedaling. Most peeps I started with in 2012 no longer ride so I always admire folks who are still riding fixed after a decade.

Been following you since 2018! Not a full fixie rider, but defs adopted a lot of your fixed-gear advice to some single-speed rigs and vintage road rigs I have ridden! Excellent stories and here's to 100 more years of gnarly fixed gear riding!

16:00 When I had to go to work by bicycle, it was 40 km a day on a trash Csepel Royal fixed gear. It was hard, but still the most beautiful memory.Strange but for me the fight is the prise.

I didn't have depression tho but it gives me depression after I broke my collarbone that cause me failed to graduate in college but a year later here I am now reviving my broken fixie after I graduated hoping to finish it this February.

Got me a tsunami smn100 and it feels off balance. It's hard to ride no hands at low speeds, pulls right. Where i could do it no problem with my cheap critical fixie. Other than that, it's a sick bike.

I would advise you to get a bmx racing bike 20 inch 24 or 26 and then put slick tires on it. Then get bladed spokes and onyx hubs. Road bikes are not fun is a general sort of way.

Random unrelated question: Phill Cheng from MacaFrama. I always liked his riding style & looked him up today & found pretty much nothing about this man since like 14 years ago. Does anyone know what happened to him?

I ride to sandiego a few times a month .,. and riding from san diego to LA is 10 times easier than riding to san diego from LA because because of that Torry pines climb ... on the way back to LA it is mostly downhill... and the i5 section Of the ride is not that bad i just hate that forcefull exit to the rest it makes me try to take so i skip it because its unecesssary

Fixed will always be cool in my book. I like being looked at as crazy by cyclists who have no undertstanding how a fixie actually works. I love being told that they are 100 percent not safe bicycles. LOL. As im stopping in the same distances as they do, Just in a different way. Fixed is just more fun than a standard geared pavement bike to me. And cycling in general helps me with my depression immensnly. Thank you for your great content.
